7 Soothing Bedtime Prayers for Forgiveness

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Forgiveness is such a big part of the Christian faith. In the New King James bible version, forgiveness is discussed 112 times. Our salvation is based on forgiveness. There is no sin that is too great for our Lord to forgive.

With our Lord’s forgiveness and sacrifice comes the expectation that we also forgive those around us. Mark 11:25 reads “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

It is important to not let things fester and grow in your heart. We should all try our best to forgive and let things go. I know it is easier said than done, but it just proves how much our Lord loves us. We are supposed to work to love others in the same way.

You should be proud of yourself for asking for forgiveness. There is never any harm in repenting and showing God, you know you can do better. I have also included the Lord’s prayer below, as the Bible’s given prayer for forgiveness, it is a great prayer to teach your children (even very young children) and for yourself on days that just are not going well.

Even though bedtime prayers are usually associated with younger people, there’s no reason for adults, teenagers, and even couples to skip bedtime prayers. Bedtime is a time that’s often free of distractions and a great time to connect with God, especially if you’ve found yourself straying or dealing with a lot of anxiety.

If you have any specific bedtime prayer for forgiveness requests, please leave them in the comments below.

Quick Bedtime Prayer for Forgiveness

Dear Father, I have had a tough day today and want to reach out to you before bed. I have made irresponsible decisions and walked out of your grace. I am here on my knees tonight, Lord to ask for your forgiveness.

I know I cannot be perfect, Father. I know Jesus died so that I may live with you forever, but I need to feel your forgiveness. Please bless me with the peace that your forgiveness brings. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bedtime Prayer for Forgiveness of Sins

Heavenly Father, today I have sinned and before I rest I want to ask for your forgiveness. This sin is sitting with me so heavily, Lord that I wish for it to be taken away. Lord, I know you are the only person who can wipe me clean from my sins.

Father, I am living my life without you and it has to stop. I believe in Jesus’ sacrifice and I know I cannot live my best life on my own. Father, I ask that your grace be poured onto me. That I feel your forgiveness and that your forgiveness brings me peace.

I will forever be grateful that you bear my sins, Lord. I know I cannot carry these issues around alone. I ask that you send me in the direction of forgiveness. I ask that you remove the people I have allowed in my life that are keeping me from walking away from my sins.

Please help me be successful in my fresh start. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bedtime Prayer for Forgiving Others

Dear Father, I have found anger in my heart and mind. I have let it sit inside of me too long, Lord. I have come to you today to ask you to help me get through this anger.

Lord, I have had a hard time forgiving and forgetting the wrong doings of those around me. I cannot seem to let go and forgive as you have taught me to do.

Father, help me find understanding in other’s actions. Help me see why this person felt the need to do what they have done to me, and then Lord I ask that you take it all away. Allow me to look at this person tomorrow morning and not feel the anger and pain that is currently inside of me.

Teach me to forgive as seamlessly as you do Father. Encourage me to turn the other cheek and bless those who hurt me. I promise to do my best to remember you grace in every situation. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bedtime Prayer for Forgiving Yourself

Dear Lord, I do not understand how I keep falling. I wake up every morning thinking today will be different. Yet I choose to go down a different path than what you have intended for me.

Lord, I ask that you forgive me, but also help me to forgive myself. Help me to stop beating myself up, Father. I feel as though my inner voice is constantly telling me I am not worthy of your love and forgiveness. It is consuming me so much that I do not believe I can be the person you strive for me to be.

Teach me to love myself, Lord. Show me what I look like in your eyes. Give me only positive thoughts when I look in the mirror. Let me see the hope and desires you have for my every day life. Please give me the sight to see myself clean and forgiven.

Father, thank you for forgiving me again today. Thank you for standing with me when I feel so low. I am hopeful that I will see your love and grace from here on out. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bedtime Prayer for Strength and Forgiveness

Dear Lord, I am feeling weak and unworthy. I am on my knees before bed and I am not sure I will ever rise without your assistance. This weight I am carrying is taking over my body, Lord. I need you to help me take back control.

Father, I have been weak in my decisions. I have given into the sins of the world over and over again. I have allowed those decisions to come before walking in your glory, Lord. I ask that you bless me with strength to walk away from these sins, Father. I ask that you give me such a strength that I can walk away and not look back.

Father I ask that you forgive these sins I have committed. I ask that you cleanse my heart and soul, leaving only your love and grace. You are the best part of me, Lord. Nothing else even comes close the love I feel when you are present with me.

Thank you, Lord for helping me get back on the right path. Thank you for your great sacrifice, for allowing me to constantly be forgiven even when I do not think that I deserve another chance. Teach me how to be strong like you, Lord. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bedtime Prayer for Penance and Forgiveness

Lord, this is all very new for me. I have been taught about your endless love and your great sacrifice. I have been given the opportunity to make my life right with you, Lord. So here I am ready to repent and move forward.

Father, I have been living my life the wrong way. I have been giving into my own wants and desires instead of trying to do what is best for your people. Lord, I ask that you hear my repentance and that you give me a light that shows me the way to a better and more fulfilling life.

Father, I ask for your forgiveness. I ask to receive the promise of Jesus dying on the cross. I cannot wrap my mind around how you can forgive me for everything that I have done, but it is not my job to know everything. It is my job to trust and give my life to you.

I promise to lead my life in your direction. I promise to do better with my decisions. I want to sit still and listen for you, Lord.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Thank you for accepting me as I am. Please guide me in how to live my life for your will. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thy is the kingdom and power and glory forever. Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

There is never-ending strength provided by our Holy Father. He loves us and wants us to always lean on him. All we can do is try to be better tomorrow.

There is no shame in repentance, and only love can be brought by asking for forgiveness from our Lord. Think of how meaningful Jesus’ sacrifice is that we can always come back to say we are sorry. That there is nothing we can do to be forever banished from our Father’s presence. It just takes acknowledgment and having the want to do better and live for our God.

Hebrews 8:12 reads “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” Once you have asked for forgiveness you can walk away from those sins and start anew. Our Lord does not keep track of how many times we fall down.

I pray you find the strength to turn away from your sins and start a new life living for Jesus. If you have any specific bedtime prayer requests for forgiveness, do not forget to leave them in the comments below.
