There are more than 41,000 species of animals that are endangered to some degree or another. As more attention has been brought to these animals, more efforts can be made to help continue their existence. It is a worthy effort to pray for these animals, as it is a part of the work to prevent their extinction.

More than that, we know that God created all animals and had Adam name them in the creation story. And in one of Jesus’ teachings, he reflected upon on how God cares for the animals of his creation.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them” (Matthew 6.26, NIV).
Animals and the wonderful variety of species that exist are of importance to God and a part of the creation and nature we share. It makes sense to want to pray for those animals who may not have high numbers on the planet anymore. It makes sense to bring your passion for animals to God in prayer.

Dear God, I want to pray to you about endangered animals. I know things in creation live and die, but I don’t want certain animals to die out too soon. There are so many species that only have a few animals left–after they die, that particular animal will no longer exist on our planet. I ask that you help all efforts to save these animals, Lord. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Endangered Animals – Snow Leopard
Dear Lord, I pray to you about the snow leopard. I pray that this beautiful animal does not die off and become extinct. I pray for all the financial resources needed to help it live be available. I pray that all political or bureaucratic obstacles be removed so the snow leopard can be supported and live a long life.
I’m not sure what I can do besides donating money and praying, so I’m praying. I make this request to you God, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Dear God, I come to you in prayer about the Java Rhino. It’s only found on the island in Indonesia and there’s only about 75 of these massive beasts left. I pray for its continued existence. I pray for the research and protection efforts to be well-supported and encouraged.
I’ve only seen pictures of this animal but I was touched when I discovered there’s such a small number of them still alive. I don’t know what to do so I’m praying to you for that species to continue for a long time. I ask this through Jesus, Amen.

God in heaven, I pray for the whooping crane and its endangered status. I pray that scientists will discover how to help the crane to continue to live and to reproduce. I pray that threats to its survival be reduced or eliminated from its living environment.

Lord, I feel awkward praying this prayer but I know I can pray to you about anything, so I am. I just read an article about the endangered status of the sea otter and I was moved in my spirit to pray about it.
I pray that this remarkably cute animal will grow in numbers and not be endangered in the future. I pray that all the work being done now will pay off for its continued existence. I make this prayer in the name of Jesus our Lord, Amen.

God, I pray for the proliferation and growth of the species of mountain gorillas that is currently in endangered status. From the videos I have seen, this gorilla is beautiful and powerful. I would hate to know that its kind died out and no longer exists on our earth.
I pray for it to be protected and that the governments of the countries where it lives to work for it’s continued existence and growth. I pray for all of these things in the name of Jesus, Amen.

It’s hard for me to believe that the giant panda is an endangered animal since I see it on the news so often, Lord, but apparently it is. I pray that all the research efforts and protection work to ensure its survival continue and be successful.

Lord, I am amazed at all the animals you created that exist on this planet. None are more awesome, truly, than the blue whale. I give thanks to you for all of the work being done to protect this huge whale. May all the hard work that has surrounded it with endangered status be strengthened.

Dear God, I never thought I’d be praying to you about a turtle but I am now. I saw an online report on how the Hawksbill turtle is endangered and is in need of protection or it will soon die off.
I don’t want to see anything of your creation to disappear because I believe you created it and called it good. So, I don’t believe it’s a coincidence I saw what I saw. So, I pray for the protection of the hawksbill turtle. I ask for this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

What a magnificent animal to see, Lord! The African forest elephant is so mighty, and yet so vulnerable now as an endangered animal. Whether it’s from poachers and hunters or from limited numbers to draw upon for survival, this elephant needs protection.

Even though it exists on the other side of the world from me and I’m likely to never see it outside of pictures online, I pray to you God, about the Yangtze porpoise. It lives in the river in China.
I pray that the government won’t hinder efforts to ensure its survival and growth in reproduction. I pray that it be protected until its species reaches high enough numbers to come off the endangered list. I pray this through Jesus, Amen.

Dear God, I lift a prayer for the continued existence of an orangutan that is only found in Indonesia. It’s isolated so it’s endangered. I pray to you that this special animal do more than just survive, but that it thrive and grow.
I pray for the money and people are provided to work toward its protection. I pray that all obstacles be move out of the way. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Lord God, I have always cared about animals and especially animals that are endangered and may soon no longer exist. One of these is the the sumatran tiger, which only exists on an island in Indonesia. There’s only about 600 of these tigers in existence anymore.
I pray them to be protected in every way. I pray against any efforts to kill this gorgeous tiger. I pray for this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lord, I pray that you will protect the black rhino. I pray against all poachers and hunters who may want to get a trophy. I pray for resources and reproductive work to be provided and successful.

Final Thoughts
While it may seem unusual to pray for an endangered animal, it shouldn’t be. Just as we pray for our pets whether they’re lost or need medical care, scripture often points to how we are to care for all animals.
“Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,
give careful attention to your herds” (Proverbs 27.23, NIV).
Further, God cares for both people and animals, as the Psalmist reminds us.
“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals” (Psalm 36.5-6, NIV).
