Would you like to pray for your boss but are not sure where to start? Does your supervisor need prayers right now?
Relationships with the people who supervise us at work are hopefully harmonious and respectful and supportive. Sometimes they are not and can be contentious, stressful or even unfair.
Whether your interactions with your boss are good, bad, or somewhere in the middle, have you ever considered praying for your boss? If you were in their position, wouldn’t you want your employees, the people you manage and lead, to pray for you? After all, we ultimately work for, and serve, God.
“Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance” (Colossians 3.23, MSG).
As well, praying for your supervisor at work is a way to show compassion for them and their responsibilities. As you pray, you may find that your perspective changes and your understanding deepens. You may discover that your work improves, or your attitude about work improves. Praying for your boss really has no negative downside and can lead to positive influence and results.
If you’re praying for a boss who tends to be negative and then nothing changes after you pray, you may think that you’ve wasted time, or that it wasn’t worth doing. Be encouraged that God hears you when you pray, so while it may not look like anything is happening, God is at work. It may very well be that your boss may not change, but your view and relationship toward your boss changes.
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them” (Hebrews 6.10, NIV).

A Brief Prayer For My Boss
Dear God, I lift up (boss’s name) to you right now. She has so much pressure on her and I pray that she will see that me, and all of the other employees here, can help her if she will let us. We are good at what we do, so help her to trust us in what we do. I pray that my interactions with her today are positive and uplifting. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For a Supervisor At Work
Lord Jesus, can you help my supervisor at work? I love working for her. She is supportive and provides such good guidance to help me do what I do. I pray for her and the responsibilities she has on her plate. She sees the bigger picture that I don’t have a perspective on at all.
Sometimes I don’t understand why I have to do certain things at work. I do not see the purpose of it. Help me realize that I only see my small part. My supervisor has the whole picture and has to make sure everyone does their part for the whole operation to function. I pray you give her wisdom. I pray I complain less in my mind.
I pray for (supervisor’s name) her personal life, that it be healthy and nurturing to her. I pray that she has a method to relieve her stress at work. I pray she continues to be my supervisor, so I ask that you continue to provide for her financially here at work.
As well, Lord, I pray that I can be a good employee for her. Let my work be free of conflict or drama, so she doesn’t have to spend time dealing with it and can focus on the important things she has to do each day. Help me to help her in any way I can. Thank you for letting me work in a good place and have a good job with a positive boss. I pray all of this in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For My New Boss
Dear Jesus, I just found out that I, and everyone else who works in my department, are getting a new boss next month. Our current boss, whom we all like and get along with, is leaving for another position at another company.
We are all a little anxious about the new boss. Who is he? How will he fit in here? Will we get along with him? Will he respect the work we all do? We have so many questions, Lord, that cannot be answered right now. I really enjoy working here and I don’t want a new boss to mess that situation up. I like the environment and culture in this place.
I’m coming to you in prayer because I don’t know what else to do. I pray for the new guy, whose name we don’t even know yet. I pray his move here goes smoothly. I pray for him to get perspective on who we are and what we do. I pray for my own attitude towards him, now and when he arrives.
I ask that you help me have a good and supportive attitude toward him. I want to continue to do good work and not slack off during the transition. Help me be a good employee, Lord. I pray all of these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For My Boss At Work
Dear Lord, I want to pray for my boss at work. He’s clearly having a tough time. He’s usually even-keeled, but over the last week something must have happened. He’s been short and temperamental with nearly everyone on our shift, and we don’t know why.
No one has done their job sloppily or come in late, or anything else to set him off. We’re all trying to figure out what’s going on because the way he is acting is affecting how we do our jobs now. I’m praying to you, asking for insight, or anything I can do to be helpful to him. I’m praying you help him with whatever is going on with him.
He’s my boss, Lord, so I don’t think I can get involved in his personal life, but I can try to keep being a good employee. I’ll keep doing good work each day. I do pray for (name of boss). I pray that the circumstances in his life outside of work change for the better. I pray for whatever the stressors are that are bothering him be lessened or removed.
I pray for his sleep, his health, and his family. I pray you give him comfort and strength and mercy and patience. Help my boss, Lord, because he clearly is in need. I don’t know how else to help him other than to pray to you, the God who is above all things. I pray this in the name of Jesus, my Strength and my Shield, Amen.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve never been a boss or a supervisor of others in the workplace, it can be hard to understand why your boss acts the way they do. Why do they have to put some demands on us to produce this, or get this task done in that time frame? As an employee, you and I do not typically have to whole picture before us. Our boss or supervisor usually does.
So, while we should never accept, or put up with abusive behavior or harassment in the workplace, we do need to remember that we work for the company who employs us, and we work under our supervisor. Ultimately, though, we serve God and work for God in everything we do. God gives us work to do as a way of providing for us.
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90.17, NIV).
Wouldn’t that be a good prayer to pray every morning before we go to our workplace? “Lord, establish the work of my hands today.” Or, “God, I pray for my work to reflect your glory. Let your favor fall upon me as I work.” Praying for your work, specifically your boss or supervisor, is one way to help you do just that.
Often we can view our employment as a means to an end. We work to earn money so we can live. While that basically is true, work can be so much more than just something we get up and do each day, hoping for the weekend to come.
Employment can be a way of glorifying God. How we go about our work can say a great deal about us as people of God, who claim to follow Jesus. Our attitude, our perspective, our very way of working can improve for the better when we look at our work through the lens of God’s eyes.
Have you ever considered that you are at your workplace to be a positive light to others, including your boss?
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15.58, NIV).
Your labor each day can be a way to bear witness to Christ. Praying for your boss or supervisor will assuredly help you do so. If nothing else, your perspective on your boss will change and improve.
