6 Clear Prayers For Asthma

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Do you have asthma and want to pray about it? Are you wondering if you have asthma and need to pray?

Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways, making it difficult to breathe. It is a common condition, affecting 26 million people, just in America alone. There is no cure for asthma, but it can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes.

Some people believe that prayer can help to improve asthma symptoms. There is no scientific evidence to support this claim, but many people find that prayer gives them comfort and strength during difficult times. I encourage you to make use of prayer and call on the power and care of God, as encouraged by the prophet Isaiah:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41.10, NIV).

If you are considering praying about your asthma, there are a few things you can do. First, find a quiet place where you can relax and focus on your prayer. Second, pray in your own words, or use these prayers as a helpful guide, in expressing your feelings and concerns to God. Third, ask for God’s help in managing your asthma and living a full and healthy life.

If you are struggling with asthma, know that you are not alone. God is with you and He loves you. He wants to help you live a productive life. Pray to Him for His help and guidance. He will hear your prayer and answer it in His perfect timing.

I invite you to make use of these six clear prayers about having asthma to help you bring your concerns to God in prayer. Choose which scenario fits what you are facing. You can modify the wording of any of the prayers to suit your circumstances.

If you have other health concerns you may want to look at prayers for different allergies, prayers for a headache, or any of the many other prayers on this website regarding physical or mental health.

I invite you to share your comments and prayer requests in the comments section below.

Short Prayer About Asthma

Dear God, I really wish I didn’t have asthma because it affects some things I would like to do. I am grateful I have medicine to be able to manage it, but I pray for a better attitude. I don’t want to keep complaining about it to myself and others around me. Help me to accept it and get on with my life. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Child’s Asthma

Dear God, I am a child with asthma. I know that you love me and that you want me to be healthy. I pray that you will help me to manage my asthma so that I can live a full and active life.

Please help me to take my medication as prescribed by my doctor, without whining about it. Please help me to avoid my triggers, such as dust mites, pollen, and smoke. Please help me to stay calm when I have an asthma attack.

My parents told me that you are with me, even when I can’t breathe very well. Thank you for your love and support. I hope I can get better as I grow older. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For A Teenager’s Asthma

Dear God,  I am a teenager heading into high school and I have asthma. I hate having to have my inhaler with me everywhere I go, and I wish I could participate in more sports but my parents won’t let me right now.

Please help me to stay on top of my medication and to avoid my triggers. My parents keep bugging me about having my inhaler with me, but I wish they would trust me more about it. Please help me to stay calm when I have an asthma attack and do what I know I need to do to get it under control.

I trust that you won’t abandon me at any time, and for that I am grateful. Help me to find friends who will accept me as I am, and not make fun of me because I have asthma. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For An Adult’s Asthma

Dear God, I have had asthma for nearly my whole life and I am just getting tired of having to deal with it on a daily basis.  I can’t go anywhere without an inhaler.  I am still limited in what activities I can do, and for how long.

I hate having to be so restricted in my life.  I am just frustrated with having a chronic health condition and I am praying to have a better mindset and attitude.

I guess I should be grateful I am still alive and able to function fairly normally, even with asthma.  I can be thankful I have the health coverage to pay for the medicine I need each month, too.

I am glad that I can come to you about this, even when I am in a complaining mood.  Thank you, Lord, for your understanding and care.  Help me to have a better day by your Spirit.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer About Getting Diagnosed With Asthma

Dear Father God, I just came back from the doctor’s office and I have been diagnosed with asthma.  I couldn’t understand why I was so often short of breath until I went to see her.

Now I have the understanding, but I also have realized I now have a chronic condition that I will have to manage each and every day.  I am going to have to get new health habits and deal with daily medicine doses and so forth.

Help me to wrap my mind around this news and help me to accept that this is a reality I have to handle.  I can’t ignore this now that I know.  I am scared of being limited in what I can do going forward.  Guide me to get a grip on what I am able to do and live with that.  In the name of Jesus, I make this prayer, Amen.

A Parent’s Prayer About Asthma

Dear God, I pray for my son who has asthma.  He’s being a real trooper about it all, but I can see the disappointment in his eyes and hear the frustration in his voice from time to time, especially when he has to use his inhaler in front of his friends.

At his age, he doesn’t want to feel different than everybody else, but it’s hard to hide when you can’t breathe properly.  Help his friends to understand and protect him from being bullied because of his condition.  I pray that he has his inhaler with him at all times.  I can’t bear to think of what would happen if he has an attack and doesn’t have that with him.

Help me to be a calm presence with him and encourage him however I can.  Sometimes I’m not sure what to say as his parent.  Hear my prayer and guide me through Jesus Christ, Amen.

A Doctor’s Prayer About Asthma

Dear God, before I begin my work day, I want to pause and pray for each of my patients today who have asthma.  A couple of them are going to find out that they have it today, after I talk with them.  Others already know and have been dealing with it for months and years.

Enable me to be a reassuring presence with each of them.  Help me also to be firm where I need to be when it comes to them managing their condition.  I can’t do it for them, but I can underscore how important it is to be vigilant.

I pray that you will help each person see that asthma is a very treatable and manageable condition. Although it can’t be cured, it can be handled with attentiveness and awareness each day. I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Final Thoughts

Having asthma, or any chronic health condition, is not what anyone wants for their life, or for their loved one. But asthma is a condition that affects millions of people and so if you are someone with it, you can know that you, truly, are not alone in what you face.

You can take comfort in knowing that God is aware of you and what you have. God knows how you must be diligent in taking responsibility for your care.  On those days when it seems too much, take encouragement from the Apostle Paul:

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why for Christ’s sake I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12.9-10, NIV).

God’s power becomes manifest in the midst of our weakness. God’s grace really is sufficient to pull us through those tough days. As you pray, let yourself be open to God and how God can strengthen you and give you peace. Remember, you are not alone in this. God is with you and He loves you.
