Shame, can make you really reflect on your life.
You may ask yourself questions like; How did I get here?
You will probably feel lonely, hurt, and angry as you deal with shame.
You may even feel like your life is falling apart as you see what you hoped for fading away and replaced with shame.
You may ask; Why me? or Why did I have to experience this shame?
Shame is a miserable place to be in. But God, does not intend for you to stay in this space. He does not allow you to feel shame without a purpose. Many times His purpose in allowing this is to help you is for you to examine your own heart.
Shame often allows us to see what we have been idolizing above God and He can use it to draw us closer to him.
The Bible is clear that God wants to be in a relationship with us and has sent Christ so we can be reconciled to Him.
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; (2 Corinthians 5:18 ESV)
But so many of us seek independence and freedom. We search for our own happiness, contentment, purpose, and value in anything but God.
And to be honest these things satisfy for a moment but eventually lead to disappointment and shame.
If you are experiencing shame today you are not alone. We are so glad that instead of staying in that state of shame you are seeking prayers to help you connect back to the one who can take all your shame away.

Short Prayer About My Shame
God, I feel shame today. I recognize that I am not perfect and the shame I’m feeling reveals this to me.
God, I knew that I was not supposed to do what I did. Please forgive me. I know I can never live up to your perfect standards.
But God, I thank you that you are quick to forgive. That you have forgiven me of my past sins and future ones. You have given me a future and a hope. So please will you now help me to turn back to you and remove this shame from my life?

Prayer About Shame
Dear Heavenly Father, I feel so much shame today. I cannot even imagine what it would be like to feel no shame like Adam and Eve did.
They were able to see you face to face and had no need to turn away in shame. This is a beautiful picture of your desire to be in a relationships with us. I know that sin has separated us from this type of relationship and has brought shame with it.
Jesus, I thank you that through you I may also experience such freedom from shame. It is only because of your work on the cross and enduring my shame that I might become the righteousness of God.
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 ESV)
I praise you Jesus that because I am yours and trust in you that I will not be put to shame.
For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” (1 Peter 2:6 ESV)
God, you know that in this broken world we still struggle with shame. We feel shame when we sin and we give shame to others out of our weakness. Please free us today from this struggle. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Shame Because Of My Sin
God, I know have been experiencing shame because of the sin in my life. I come to you today to confess these sins. ________ (Share with God the sins you are confessing).
I am so thankful that I am yours and that you have forgiven me and redeemed me from my old life. However, sometimes I still feel shame, and I act out in destructive ways.
I seek my satisfaction in myself and others instead of trusting in your love for me. The love that saved me from this very thing. Your love saves me from shame.
God, I know that I need the freedom that only you can provide. I pray that the Gospel is clear in my mind and heart and leads me in ways that keep me clear of the sin that leads to shame. I pray this all for your glory and ask in your name, Amen!
Prayer For Shame Because Of Other’s Sin Against Me
God, I have been experiencing shame because of the sins of others and the suffering that comes from living in this world that has rejected you as Creator.
God, I know you have not been punishing me. You do not look at me with anger or disappointment because of this situation. I thank you for seeing me through your love. You have extended so much compassion towards me during this time.
You are like the father in the story of the prodigal son.
And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him (Luke 15: 20 ESV)
Thank you for being a Heavenly Father who longs to receive me with this type of joy.
Help me to find freedom from my shame. Allow me to be comforted in my grief and feel secure in you alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Embarrassment
God, I am so embarrassed because of what I have done. This embarrassment makes me want to run and hide, even try to numb this embarrassment with worldly comforts. I am afraid of what others will think. I’m afraid of what you will think.
God, I have pretended to be okay and not be embarrassed but deep down this feeling will not go away.
When others have brought up this embarrassing moment I feel guilty and make excuses but I know it is because of what I have done. All of this is just a broken attempt to deal with my embarrassment.
God, I know I need to come to you and confess what I have done. This is not just something I am embarrassed by but ultimately a sin against you.
Help me to see how this has harmed the relationship I have with you and give me the boldness to repent and walk away from all that embarrasses me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Learned Lesson From Shame
God, I feel so much shame. I have asked your forgiveness and I praise you for the forgiveness you have given me.
I want to learn from this experience so that I will not be so quickly in shameful situations again. I want to be David and ask you to reveal to me where I may not be walking with you.
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! (Psalm 139:23-24 ESV)
God, I thank you that this shame has not crushed me and I ask that you open my eyes to the true state of my heart. Help me to see where I have been seeking comfort, satisfaction, and my identity apart from you.
Help me to see where I have been foolish. Help me to experience your love and compassion so that I may never wander again into a shameful situation.
God, I ask you to use this trial to help me to grow to be more like you. Help me to learn from this experience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Thoughts
Choosing to seek the Lord in prayer is always the best place to be.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. (Psalm 34:4-5 ESV)
