5 Hopeful Prayers To Save Marriage From Divorce

Dear Friend, I don’t know you but I am grieved for you that your marriage is at this point. I am also glad that you have chosen to turn to God in prayer. He is the one who loves you more than anyone, desires your marriage to thrive, and has the power to save it. 

I know that it didn’t seem too bad just a short time ago. You probably had small arguments here and there. There were probably times you didn’t feel appreciated or that your spouse wasn’t putting in the same amount of effort. 

Now you are here, discussing divorce. You think back to your wedding day, when you were both so in love, and wonder how you got here. 

I know that if you are here, seeking prayer, you know our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You may know Christ’s teaching on divorce and that is why you seek His power to save your marriage. (If you do not know Jesus’ teachings on divorce you can read it here(Matt. 5:23; 1 Cor. 7:15).

“What God has joined together, let not man separate” (Mark 10:9). 

Even though your marriage seems to be falling apart God truly does want you to continue to be committed to your spouse. This isn’t because He is an unkind God wanting you to be stuck in a miserable marriage but quite the opposite. It is because of God’s love that He desires your marriage to be saved. 

Marriage should show us, and the world, how Christ loves the church. Our marriage is o much more than just about our happiness. Christ is the head of the church, leading it, protecting it, and loving it. There is a process of growth and Christ helps us to grow just as the husband should help his wife to grow. There is so much hope, excitement, and pleasure.  (Ephesians 5:22-33)

Everyone longs for a marriage like that but it takes work. It begins with us understanding what God desires and what He hates. 

I want to pray alongside you that God will save your marriage. You also must fight, every day, for your marriage. Trust God. He has given you everything you need to be faithful.

Short Prayer For Saved Marriage From Divorce

Protect my marriage, O God, for it’s you, I seek. You are my God and I surrender this request at your feet. I know you are Lord over all, even over my marriage. 

God, you have blessed me so richly. You have lavished your grace upon me and called me your child. For many years you have blessed my marriage, but now it’s so hard. 

I pray that you lead me. Help me to know how to fight for my marriage. I pray for your power, the same power that rose you from the grave, to work in my marriage. 

God, help me to see what you want, the tools you have given me to fight, and the wisdom to do your will. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen. 

Prayer For God to Save Marriage

Heavenly Father, you are my Lord, you are my light and my salvation; I will not fear the attacks the evil one has made on my marriage. I come to you boldly asking that you save my marriage. 

Though my marriage struggles my heart will not fear because you are in control. Though we argue about every little thing I am confident in your working power to save my marriage. 

God, I pray that you hide our marriage under your wing of safety. Do not let this world or the evil one continue to attack us.

God, help us to both seek your face as we work through our difficulties. Please do not hide your face from us. I know we have both made mistakes and have sinned against you in our marriage. I pray that you will not turn away in anger but lavish your grace upon us. 

Father, the world around me suggests divorce, it encourages me to be free, but I don’t want that. I want to honor my marriage covenant that we stood and said before you. Take us and protect us and save us. 

Do not let either of us desire the things that are not from you. I pray that you do not let the evil one win, and save our marriage from divorce.

Prayer To Seek God As I Wait

God, I pray that while I wait for you to restore my marriage I use this time wisely. I pray that I draw closer to you. Help me to seek out your word daily and to seek counsel from wiser Christians.

God, help me to seek you when I’m so easily distracted by my own feelings of hurt and discontentment. Help me to seek you as I wait. 

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! (Psalm 27:13-14 ESV)

God, thank you that I do not wait on your without hope but rather knowing that you are the Lord of the living. I trust you will restore my marriage back to life. 

Father, as I seek you and your teachings I’m brought to my knees as I see you in all your perfect splendor and the magnitude of sin in my life, especially in my marriage. I beg you Lord to forgive me. Help me to forgive my spouse.  

God, I desire to seek you. Give me patience as I wait. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen. 

Prayer For My Children As God Saves Our Marriage

God, I pray for the children involved as you save this marriage. God, I pray that you shelter these children. They do not deserve any of the mess they are experiencing because of their parents’ struggling marriage. 

God, be with the children now that are affected by our marriage struggling. Let them find shelter in you. 

You are the great judge and I plead with you now to right this situation. Help save this marriage from divorce for your glory and for the safety of these children. They need you, to come rescue this situation. 

Arise oh God, save this marriage. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen. 

Prayer To Trust God Regarding My Marriage

Dear Heavenly Father, I do not even know where to start. I want to trust you but my marriage feels like it has failed and we are heading towards divorce. I plead with you to save my marriage from divorce. 

Lord, I pray that you help me trust you in this area. You are over every situation and over my life. I trust that you are using this time to help me to grow and be closer to you. 

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4 ESV)

God, I do not always remember to trust you or especially don’t find much joy in my trials. Help me to grow to see it as a good thing from you. Help me not to take this time and waste it but instead help me to turn to you in trust. 

God, help me to trust you in this time, when it would be easy to just throw it away or sin in my complaining words. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
