9 Elevating Prayers For A Friend To Find A Job

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

One of the most difficult parts of friendship is watching your friends struggle. It’s particularly hard to watch a friend be unemployed or in a job they dislike. One of the best things you can do is to pray for your friends to find a job.

It can be very frustrating when your friend isn’t hearing back from employers or keeps getting turned down after multiple interviews. It’s easy to get downtrodden. Here are some Bible verses for you to speak life into your friends while they are in their time of employment distress.

  • “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).
  • “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” (Proverbs 16:9, NIV).
  • “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)

It’s not easy to wait when your friend desperately wants a new job or just needs any job. Always try to encourage your friends in these situations and speak the truth of the Lord’s goodness!

I have given you prayers for a friend to find a job. I have used the pronoun he, but feel free to customize each prayer to your specific situation. Please leave your prayer requests in the comments so we can pray with you!

Short Prayer For A Friend To Find A Job

Lord, please watch over my friend who needs a new job. I know he is unhappy with where they’re at and I think a new job will take him to a new place where he can glorify you in a different way. Please help (name) to find the right job to accomplish this goal. We trust that Your will be done. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For A Friend To Find A New Job

Father, my friend is quite unhappy at their current job. I know he feels like he is in a situation where he is stuck and needs out. If it is your will please help (name) to find a new job. (Name) wants something where he can glorify You. (Name) needs something with purpose and brings him joy.

I know that (name) is a little lost. He’s not sure what job he wants, but I know You do. Your plan is perfect and You will place the right job in his path when it’s time. Help him to have patience as he searches for the right fit.

We all have trouble trusting that You will provide sometimes. Now is one of those times for my friend. Help him to remember these words from Scripture:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life” (Matthew 6:26-27, NIV)?

My friend doesn’t need to worry about Your plan for his life. You take care of the birds and you will take care of his job situation. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer Before My Friend’s Interview

Lord, my friend is interviewing for a job they really want. I know he is nervous because he wants it so badly. He thinks he’d fit in really well at this company and feels like the job is something he will really succeed at. Please help the company to feel the same way.

(Name) is worried that he will flounder during the interview and not get this job because of it. Please help him to stay calm and answer the questions to the best of his ability. Give him the confidence he needs as he enters into this interview.  Help him to convince this employer that he is worthy of this job. May his words be Your words.

Ultimately, let him trust that if he doesn’t get this job that it is your will. Help him to understand that Your will is greater than his. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer During My Friend’s Interview

Lord, I know my friend is nervous. Please help him to stay focused. I know he’s a great fit for this job. Please give him the words to answer these questions to the best of his ability. Please help this employer to see he will help their company succeed.

I hope he glorifies You in this time. Please give him Your peace. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer After My Friend’s Interview

Good and gracious God, thank you for being with my friend during the interview. I know You were there holding his hand and wrapping your arms around him. Help him to rest his mind and rest in You now that it’s over.

(Name) really wants this job so just help him to trust that he did as much as he could to get it. As the company reflects on his interview I hope the employer was able to see his confidence, drive, determination, and work ethic.

I know that if it is Your will he will get this job. Help my friend to trust in You and Your Divine Providence. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer Of Surrender for Your Friend To Find A Job

Lord, my friend has found a job that he really wants. Help him to truly surrender his will to Yours. Help him to remember Your Son in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew he was going to go through an extremely painful passion and death, yet He still asked you, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

He didn’t want to do it, but He knew Your will was greater. Getting this job is a much smaller thing to surrender. May (Name) unite himself to Jesus and ask for His strength as he comes to terms with whatever the outcome of the job searching process might bring. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Peace For Your Friend To Find A Job

Holy God, I praise thy Name. You are faithful, holy, good, and have abounding love for us all. My friend has applied for a job that he really wants and is so anxious about it. Please give him Your peace.

Whisper into his heart that there is no use in worrying. Help him to listen to the words of Scripture: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV).

The book of First Peter also says, “They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it” (1 Peter 3:11, NIV). By applying for this new job he truly is trying to seek peace and pursue it fiercely. However, I know that no matter what job he has his heart will be restless unless he rests in You.

Help him to put You first and have peace with whatever the outcome of this job is. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Wisdom For Your Friend To Find A Job

Lord, my friend is searching for a new job. He has found a job that he really wants. He’s not sure if it’s the right fit though. He knows he’ll be happy and excel in this position, but I’m not sure the sacrifices are worth the reward of the job.

Please give him the wisdom to know if he should apply or accept the position if he does apply. I know that sometimes we want things, but they aren’t what You want. Help my friend to align his plan with Yours.

(Name) is a great man who loves You and wants to glorify You in all that he does. Don’t let his ego or selfish desires get in the way of Your plan for him. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Trust For Your Friend To Find A Job

Lord, my friend really needs a job. I am so worried about (name’s) situation and I know he is getting distressed as well. He is struggling to trust You through this process.  (Name) is so anxious about it that he is forgetting to put this problem in Your hands. As a Christian, it is vital for us to trust in You.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3: 5-6, NIV).

As long as (Name) trusts in You and has his eyes focused on You and Your kingdom, I know that he will succeed. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Finding a new job is never easy. It’s a time of unknown and stress. It’s not typically fun and can push you to your limits. When your friend is looking for a job it’s important for you to keep them grounded and focused on keeping the Lord’s perspective in mind.

It might be frustrating if your friend keeps getting rejected from jobs they want and know they would succeed at, but try to remind your friend that God’s plan is better than their own, even if they don’t understand it right now.

Keep encouraging them to follow the voice of the Lord and seek His wisdom and peace through the process!
