7 Awesome Prayers for a Good Weekend

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Do you want to pray for the upcoming weekend and not sure where to start?

These seven awesome prayers for a good weekend allow you to step into this new area of prayer with ease. Although the prayers below may not touch on every aspect of a good weekend, they are written to cover the most obvious prayer requests about a weekend.

You can begin praying whichever prayer suits your circumstance or need.  You can also modify any of the prayers in order to personalize it for your situation.  The point of praying these prayers is to help you focus on God and your relationship with Jesus.  As you pray about every aspect of your life, including wanting to have a good weekend, you grow closer to God.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3.15-17, NIV).

However you spend your weekends, you might consider bringing God into your thoughts and plans for each weekend you have.  That’s what these prayers can help you do, so why not start praying for a good weekend right now?

A Brief Prayer For A Good Weekend

Dear God, I pray to you, asking that I have a good weekend.  I’ve been looking forward to these two days all week and I want so much for the weekend to go smoothly.  I need a break to rest and re-energize.  I’d like to enjoy myself and whatever I happen to be doing on Saturday and Sunday.  Thank you for hearing my prayer, through Jesus Christ my Savior, Amen.

Prayer For a Good Weekend As a Family

Dear Father God, I lift this prayer to you, trusting that you hear me.  I ask you to help us have a good weekend as a family.  All this week, each of us is going this way and that way with work and school and errands.

But this weekend we have the chance to be together as a family and I want it to go well.  Help us to reconnect with each other as a family.  Help us to be able to rest and enjoy our time together.  We’re excited to have the opportunity to engage in our favorite activities, and we’re looking forward to what the weekend holds for us as a family.

Thank you that we all have the weekend off and there’s no other scheduled events for work or school on the family calendar.  This will be the first open weekend we’ve had in a couple of months, which is why we have such expectations for a good weekend.

Please help us keep everything in perspective and receive this weekend as a gift from you for our family. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a Good Weekend Playing Sports

Lord, I am praying to you about this upcoming weekend.  My kids both play different sports and we have a full schedule of games and matches this weekend.  I love to watch each of them play and compete at what they enjoy doing.  I love to cheer them on and get to know other parents in the crowd.

I ask you for patience, however, as it’s going to be tight at a couple of points because the games are timed close together and not in the same location.  We’ll have to leave one place and rush to the other location without much buffer for delays.  I pray that I can be calm in the midst of it all so my kids can focus on their sport and helping their team.

I pray for their safety and for all of us to get the sleep and rest we need across these two days.  While it will be busy, I’m looking forward to it because I see it as a blessing to be able to have this much time with each of my children, and all of us together.  Thank you for receiving my prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a Good Weekend As a Couple

Lord God, I thank you so much for what this upcoming weekend will mean for us as a couple.  We finally have a free couple of days without any other responsibilities to attend to, or activities to take care of in our little corner of the world.

We’re going to actually get to spend time together as a couple, able to focus on each other, without all the distractions we’ve had swirling around us as of late.  I pray for us to be able to rest and renew this weekend.  I pray for us to enjoy good loving with each other and to just enjoy the gift of time that this weekend represents.

We’re taking the weekend as it comes and keeping options and only have loose plans overall.  We want this weekend to be free of a tight schedule or any real demands.  I pray that this weekend will boost us both in our love for you and for each other.  I pray this prayer in the loving name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a Good Weekend As a Church

Dear God in heaven, this upcoming weekend is a big one for our church.  We have a big outreach event planned on Saturday that should bring in a lot of people from across the community.  And then on Sunday we have a major worship service, followed by a celebration luncheon.

We don’t have this kind of weekend all the time as a church so I pray that it be successful and rewarding, and ultimately, that all that we do uplift and glorify you.  I pray for good weather throughout the weekend and for everyone to come and go safely.

Mostly though, I pray that each person, whether they are serving or leading, or receiving or participating, that they feel the love of Jesus Christ in all we do.  Let each person see this as a chance to serve Christ in what they do.  Let each person who is a guest receive your grace and mercy in and through our actions.

Thank you for our church and for this weekend, in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For a Good Weekend After a Bad Week

God, I need a good weekend.  Every day this week something has happened, either at work or in my neighborhood or at my children’s school or in my personal life that has been hard to handle.  Most weeks I can take what comes my way and handle it with grace and perseverance.

But this week, everything has snowballed all at once and it feels like it’s coming downhill, gathering speed and size and it’s going to smack me flat by Friday.  I need a good weekend after a very bad week.

I pray for rest and good sleep.  I pray for all of this stuff that has unfolded this week to be wrapped up or resolved by the weekend, so I don’t have to focus my time and energy on it.  I need this weekend to refocus and replenish my mental and emotional reserves.  I ask for all of this, believing that you hear me and are already at work to answer my prayer, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a Long Weekend To Take a Break

Thank you Lord God for the blessing of an upcoming long weekend.  I’m so looking forward to having some extended time off from work. I’ve had a very busy and productive few months, for which I am grateful, but my body and mind are needing a break.

I am grateful for how things fell into place so I could have this long weekend.  I don’t believe that the way I was feeling and the timing of this is a coincidence.  I see your mighty hand at work, caring for me, knowing what I needed even before I did.  Thank you for this gift and blessing.  I receive it and seek to enjoy it, in the kind name of Jesus, Amen.

Final Thoughts

Unless you work on the weekend, or have major responsibilities on Saturday or Sunday, the weekend represents something to look forward to, a gift to enjoy.   It’s two days off of work or not having to be in school.  It’s a nice buffer between consecutive Mondays through Fridays. The weekend offers us a chance to stop, relax, be and do something different than we have during the work week and a clear difference from the mid-week struggles.

Take the time to do what you love to do this weekend.

If you live an average of 80 years, you have more than 4,100 weekends to enjoy across the entirety of your life.  Think of where you are now in age and think about having 52 weekends each year moving forward.  What do you want to do with those weekends?  How much could you help your emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental health if you utilized those weekends accordingly?

It is our hope that as you pray for a good weekend, your perspective on your time and your relationship with God in your life will transform and bring your closer to your Creator and Savior.  We welcome your comments and prayer requests in the section below.
