9 Positive Prayers for a Job You Really Want

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Not every job you have is your dream job. Sometimes you have to work places you don’t necessarily want to for family stability, financial security, or other various reasons.

Maybe you need a better job to become available or maybe you’ve already applied for your dream job. Either way, it’s important to invite God into your decisions and emotions as you pray for a job you really want.

My husband recently applied for his dream job and unfortunately didn’t get it. It was devastating, but we came to accept that it wasn’t God’s will for him to have that job at this time.

We had to remember these words from Scripture: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).

As you are searching, applying, and/or interviewing for a job you really want, I hope you can trust that the Lord’s timing is perfect and He will provide the right job at the right time.

I have given you 9 prayers for a job you want, but feel free to customize them to your specific situation. Please leave any prayer requests in the comments so we can pray with you!

Short Prayer for a Job You Want

Lord, I found a job that I really want. I’m nervous that it won’t work out and that I’ll be disappointed. I’m unhappy with where I’m at and think this new job will take me to a new place where I can glorify you in a different way. Please help me to know if this job is really Your will or just mine. I trust that Your will be done. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer to Find a New Job

Father, I am so unhappy at my current job. I feel like I’m in a situation where I am stuck and need out. If it is your will please help me to find a new job. I want something where I can glorify You. I need something with purpose and brings me joy. I feel I’m a worse version of myself at this job.

I’m not sure what job I want, but I know You do. Your plan is perfect and You will place the right job in my path when it’s time. Help me to have patience as I search for the best fit for me.

If it truly is Your will for me to stay at this job then help me to accept that. I sometimes have trouble trusting that You will provide. Help me to remember these words from Scripture:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life” (Matthew 6:26-27, NIV)?

I don’t need to worry about Your plan for my life. Although I do hope it includes getting a new job. I will try harder to trust in You and Your promises. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer Before an Interview

Lord, I am interviewing for a job I really want. I am so nervous because I want it so badly. I really feel like I would succeed in this position and be a great fit for this company. I love everything about this job and really hope the company feels the same way.

I’m worried I will flounder during the interview and not get this job because of it. Please help me to stay calm and answer the questions to the best of my ability. Give me the confidence I need as I enter this interview. I know I’m a great fit so help me to convince this employer that I am too. May my words be Your words.

Ultimately, let me trust that if I don’t get it that it is your will. Help me to understand that Your will is greater than mine. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer During an Interview

Lord, I am so nervous. Please help me to stay focused. I know I’m a great fit for this job. Please give me the words to answer these questions to the best of my ability. Please help this employer to see I will help their company succeed.

I hope I glorify You in this time. Please give me Your peace. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer After an Interview

Good and gracious God, thank you for being with me during the interview. I know You were there holding my hand and wrapping your arms around me. I need time now to rest in You. I think it went well, but I am unsure if I am what they are looking for.

I really want this job so just help me to trust that I did as much as I could to get it. As they reflect on my interview I hope the employer was able to see my confidence, drive, determination, and work ethic.

I know that it is Your will I will get this job. I trust in You and Your Divine Providence. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer of Surrender for a Job You Want

Lord, I have found a job that I really want. Help me to truly surrender my will to Yours. Help me to remember Your Son in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew he was going to go through an extremely painful passion and death, yet He still asked you, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

He didn’t want to do it, but He knew Your will was greater. Getting this job is a much smaller thing to surrender. I unite myself to Jesus and ask for His strength as I come to terms with whatever the outcome of this job I want might bring. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Peace for a Job You Want

Holy God, I praise thy Name. You are faithful, holy, good, and have abounding love for me. I have applied for a job that I really want and am so anxious about it. Please give me Your peace.

There is no use in worrying. I will try my hardest to listen to the words of Scripture: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV).

The book of First Peter also says, “They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it” (1 Peter 3:11, NIV). By applying for this new job I truly am trying to seek peace and pursue it fiercely. However, I know that no matter what job I have my heart will be restless unless I rest in You.

Help me to put You first and have peace with whatever the outcome of this job is. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Wisdom for a Job You Want

Lord, I have found a job that I really want. I’m just unsure if it is the right fit for my family or the right timing. It’s exactly what I am looking for, but it’s far away from our support system. I know I will be so happy and excel in this position, but I’m not sure the sacrifices are worth the reward of the job.

Please give me the wisdom to know if I should apply or accept the position if I do apply. I know that sometimes I want things, but they aren’t what You want. Help me to align my plan with Yours.

I love You Lord and want to glorify You in all that I do. Don’t let my ego or selfish desires get in the way of Your plan for me. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Trust for a Job You Want

Lord, I have found a job that I really want. I am struggling to trust You through this process. I want it so badly that I’m letting my selfish desires get in the way. I am so anxious about it that I am forgetting to put this problem in Your hands. As a Christian, it is vital for me to trust in You.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3: 5-6, NIV).

As long as I trust in You and have my eyes focused on You and Your kingdom, I know that I will succed. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

The Lord wants us to be happy and succeed. However, sometimes our desires aren’t the same as His and that can be hard to understand. As you are searching, applying, interviewing, and waiting it is important to remember that it is an opportunity to grow as a disciple.

Use this time as an opportunity to grow in trusting the Lord, listening to His voice, and resting in His peace. May God bless you abundantly on Your journey for the job you want!
