Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Searching for prayers about a new car?  Wondering if it’s okay to pray for a new car?

You can use these four honest prayers for a new car with ease and confidence.  Whatever your situation is regarding a new car, these prayers are a valid way of praying about it.  We can pray to God about any need we have.  Is it really worth carrying around a burden you have and not bringing it to God in prayer?

You may find it easier to alter some details of these prayers to fit your particular circumstance and that’s fine.  We wrote prayers covering the most common need for a new car to be of service to you as you search.

You can need a new car for several different reasons.  Maybe your car got stolen, or you were in a wreck and your car is ruined.  Perhaps your current car is so old that it no longer runs or is safe to operate.  Needing a new car is a legitimate need and praying about it is a valid response to the need.

But don’t avoid praying about a new car because you don’t think you can, or that it’s somehow wrong to do so.  Trust in the truth of scripture which reminds us:

You do not have because you do not ask God.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives” (James 4.2-3, NIV).

Pray to God and pray with God, that you may be in his will, believing that he cares for you.  As you pray, you may find your own requests coming to mind, so we encourage you to write them at the end of this article.

Prayer for a New Car After a Wreck

Dear Lord, I had a wreck a few days ago and now I need a new car.  I’ve got to have steady transportation for my family’s needs, my work, and to be able to function.

My city doesn’t have great public transportation so having a reliable car is a definite need for me.  I’m waiting to hear from the insurance company about how much money I will receive since the wreck wasn’t may faulty.  So, while I’m waiting, I wanted to bring my need to you in prayer.

I sort of feel odd asking you for a new car when there’s so many other pressing things out there that need your attention, but I’ve got to have a car, Lord.  In order to do what I need to do each day, I’ve got to get around in a car.

I’m asking for you to provide a new car after this wreck.  It doesn’t have to be “new-car-smell” new, but at least new to me, because my current car is totaled out according to my insurance agent.  So, Lord, I pray this prayer in faith that you will provide, in some way, a car for me.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for a New Car After Current Car is Stolen

Jesus!  My car was stolen last night from right in front of my apartment building!  I can’t believe it!  It wasn’t a spiffy car or anything and there was nothing of value in it, so I don’t understand why someone would take it.

I do know that I now need a new car.  I can’t live my life and fulfill my responsibilities without a car to drive.  I can’t use public transit because it doesn’t even operate in my area of town.  I need a new car, Lord!  It doesn’t have to be brand-spanking new, but I do need a car to replace the one that was stolen.

I thank you for the police who have been most helpful in getting me the paperwork I need for insurance purposes and so forth.  I ask that you guide me to use what money I receive to be able to purchase a new-to-me car so I can live and work and function.  I trust you Lord, and so I pray all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for a New Car for a Job

Lord God, I don’t currently have a car, but I need one soon.  I found out I have been hired for a new job and it’s further than I can walk or bike to from where I live.  I need a new car, God, and I need a new car quickly so I can take this employment offer.

I’ll make enough to afford a car payment so I’m not worried about that, but I need the car to get to the job to make the money to cover the payment for the car!  It’s all linked together, Lord, so I pray you help connect all the dots financially for me in the next several days.

I’m looking at the car ads and online for solid, dependable cars so I can be prepared.  I’m not asking for some hot rod, show-off car, God, but a new car to me can be a decent used vehicle.  I just know I need it, and you are the Provider in my life, so I pray you will provide.  I make this prayer through Jesus Christ, who is my Rock, Amen.

Prayer for a New Car Because Current Car Broke Down

God, my car has broken down, again.  I have been spending money nearly every month to keep it running.  One month it was a new tire. Another month is was a busted radiator.  The month before that it had an oil leak.  But now, it has finally just stopped running all together.

I had to pay even more money to have it towed to the mechanic’s shop.  He took a look at it and said it could be the transmission itself.  He also said the cost of replacing it would be more than the car is actually worth right now.  Even selling it for scrap parts and metal wouldn’t raise too much funds.

I can’t deal with this right now, Lord.  I have to have reliable transportation to run my kids to school, get my mom to her regular medical appointments, and so I can commute to my job to pay for all of this.  I can’t do any of that, God, if my car is broken and won’t run!

I’m at my wit’s end, so I pray to you in faith that you will provide me and my family with a new car.  I don’t care if it comes through a new car giveaway I entered months ago, or someone has a reliable used car I can buy for not a lot of money–I just need a car!  I’ve seen you work in mysterious ways over the years Lord, so I pray to you in faith.

You know my need and you know this is an emergency and a vital priority.  You know I’m not asking out of greed, Lord.  I pray all of this in the mighty and loving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Praying to God is such a personal expression of our spirituality and our faith journey with Jesus.  It can seem awkward to pray about such a tangible thing like a new car.  We may feel outside pressure to restrict our prayers to only “important” things like a loved one’s surgery, or a friend’s addiction,  or world events.

But, since prayer is about relationship and not just about getting answers,  we can, and should, bring every request to God in prayer.  We limit our growth, and in some ways, limit our understanding of God when we won’t pray about certain things.  Relish the freedom we have in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.  “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.  Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.  And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins” (Mark 11.22-25, NIV).

Prayers of great faith can work mighty wonders in the world,  and in your life.  Praying for a new car out of need, not greed, is legitimate and you don’t need to feel self-conscious about it.  You are simply being honest with God as to what you want and need.   Isn’t that the very definition of coming to God with the innocence of a child?

How God answers your prayer is up to God, of course.  You can simply be faithful to pray to God and grow in your relationship with him as you pray.  As you grow in your prayer life, we invite you to return to this site, save it as one of your favorites, and continue to pray!  Please share your personal prayer requests in the comments section.
