Do you need to take action on something? Have you thought of praying before you take action in your life?
We sometimes need to take action on a situation in our lives. We may not want to for some reason, but we need to, for the good of others, or for ourselves.
Whatever the circumstance, it would be a good idea to take it to God in prayer. The nine powerful prayers here are intended to focus your thoughts before the work of your hands go forward. You can modify any of the prayers to suit your situation, as needed.
You may also want to pray for unfair treatment at work, or an abusive relationship.
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do” (James 1.23-25, NIV).
As you pray to God about your need for action you will feel the Holy Spirit come alongside and gently guide you forward. By opening yourself up to God through prayer you will release yourself to Him and your actions will be influenced by His will.

A Short Prayer For Action
Dear God, I pray to you to help me take action in my life. I need to do something, but I am not sure exactly what it is. I’m tired of just sitting around letting things happen to me. I want to be the one to make something happen. I want to take action so I have some sense of control over my life. I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action For Justice
Dear God, I feel led to step out into my community and take action for justice. A certain group of people are being treated unfairly and I can’t just sit by and watch it happen any longer. I want to go about this in the right way.
I need your guidance to focus on justice for these folks. I want to speak clearly and act with confidence and not get backed down. These people need someone to stand up for them, to stand in the gap so they can be heard.
I pray that I will get access to the people who will listen to me. I pray that I have favor with the decision makers by your hand. Help me Lord to take action for a positive result. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action For My Health
Lord, I need help. I have been confronted by my doctor this morning. I can’t ignore my health any longer. I have not wanted to face the facts because it all just seemed too overwhelming. My doctor gave me an ultimatum at my appointment this morning: change your health habits or die early.
I need to take action for my health. I need to take immediate action, in fact. I have to go about this properly or I’ll try to start all this change at once and give up, and probably end up in worse shape.
Please help me make use of the medical people who my doctor referred me to. I have made an internal decision to do this, so I just need some good momentum to keep me moving forward in living out this action. In the name of Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith, I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action At Work
Dear God, things at work have gone from bad to worse in such a short time. Our boss is not acting right. I don’t know what is going on with him and his personal life, but it seems like he is taking his anger about something else out on us.
His near-constant yelling is affecting our ability to work well. I feel like I need to take some action, as the most senior member of the team under him. I don’t want to get fired, but he cannot continue to treat all of us in this manner.
Help me pick a good time to talk with him. Help me have the proper words and tone when I speak with him. I will not back down from this and want to show him proper respect, but that respect is a two-way street, Lord. I need him to hear me. Please, I pray, let this go well for all of us. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action At School
God, my friend is getting bullied at school and I won’t let it happen anymore. I must take action and stand up for him. He’s tried to let the teachers know but they haven’t been much help.
I need to catch these people in the midst of their bullying so there is a witness. Help me be confident and brave. I think if there’s someone else on the scene then they won’t feel so powerful.
I pray I can do this well and help my friend. Help me to help him, Lord. I want to do the right thing. I pray this and ask for your protection for us both, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action On A Church Issue
Father God, it saddens me to come to you in prayer about this, but a situation at church has come up that has to be dealt with.
One of the ushers has been stealing from the offering plate and he thinks no one has noticed. We have to take action and it is happening tonight. I pray for all of us as we confront him in love about what he has been doing.
We want to find out why he’s doing it, and then, hopefully, we can get him the help he clearly needs. Enable us to do this with firmness and love, with grace and mercy. I pray he doesn’t try to lie about it because that will only make the situation worse.
Help us all to get through this tonight. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action In a Dispute
God, I really don’t want to get involved but it seems like I’m going to have to now. My two neighbors are involved in a dispute and I have knowledge about the situation. I now have to give a deposition with an attorney in a couple of days.
I was hoping I wouldn’t get drawn into this mess and they both could have resolved the situation, but that’s not happening. I feel like regardless of what I do, I will lose a neighbor friend in the process. Each of them won’t back down or give up anything in compromise, so there’s going to be a winner and a loser.
Except, I think, they both will lose each other as friends and what are they going to really win, if they “win?” I have to take action in this case so help me be honest and tell what I know. I trust it will all work out in the end. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Action In Politics
God, I pray for all of our elected officials in all areas of government, that they will stop working on behalf of their own little issues and their own political party and work for the good of the community, state, and nation.
I pray that they will take action on behalf of the people, and be For the people, not the power or the money. I pray they will take action that benefits the largest number of people, not just their donors or their “base.”
I pray this in the name of Jesus, who is the One of Love, Amen.
Prayer To Take Action And Stop Procrastinating
God, it says something that it took me two days just to work up the nerve to pray this prayer. I need to take action about stuff in my life and I have been putting it off and putting it off. I can’t believe I even procrastinated about prayer!
I know there is a fear at work in why I don’t just get started, but I haven’t discovered why the fear is there. Help me identify the cause so I can work on the solution. I really don’t like how it makes me feel to keep shoving things to the side or placing to-do lists on the back burner and not ever really getting anything done.
My house is a mess. My life is a mess and I need help. I need to take action on my not taking action! Please help me, Lord. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
There may be times in our life when we easily will step into action and get done what needs to get done. We’ll make the call, finish the task, or pay the bill.
Other times, though, there seems to be an obstacle in our way. Sometimes it can be our own fear, or perhaps a simple lack of understanding about the situation. Whatever it may be, we don’t take action when we need to. We hold back.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3.23-24, NIV).
Taking the Apostle Paul’s encouragement to heart may help us. When we understand that we work for God, regardless of what we are actually doing, we can embrace the confidence that can give us. We are not alone!
