Children are such wonderful blessings, aren’t they? While motherhood can certainly be exhausting, it has been my absolute joy to watch my children grow and to teach and lead them towards Christ. Each one of my children is a gift, and I cannot imagine a life without them.
But I also know that I can forget what a blessing it is and how fortunate it is that I can raise my own kids. I live in a safe home, in a free country, with financial security. So many all over the world cannot say the same. There are many mothers right now making the agonizing choice to allow someone else to raise their children. I know that cannot be an easy decision, but I am so thankful for those who choose to make it.
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40 NIV
When I think about this scripture, I am convicted that we must always be looking to help “the least of these.” Friends, we live in a fallen world, and we are surrounded by hardship every single day. My heart breaks when I think about the children who are born to parents who aren’t able to care for them, but I am so encouraged by the selfless men and women who desire to come alongside and adopt these precious children.
Adoption is not an easy, seamless process. It takes a special kind of person to both welcome a child into their home and also has the strength to persevere during the process of adoption. I have friends who have waited years under paperwork and with many prayers and tears.
Adopting a child can be such a beautiful thing, but it isn’t without pain and struggle. I am so thankful for those dear friends of mine who have chosen to adopt, and so thankful to be able to walk with them and pray with them during difficult times.
Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 1 Chronicles 16:11 NIV
If you are adopting, I encourage you to seek the Lord continually. There will be hard days and new challenges both during the adoption process and after you welcome your child home. Seek the Lord and pray!

Father God, I come before you today with a heart filled with both excitement and worry. This journey of adoption is filled with so many challenges, and I seek your guidance, strength, and grace to navigate the path ahead.
There are so many moments of hope and anticipation, but they are almost always followed by doubt and frustration. Sometimes it seems more than I can bear. The mountain of paperwork, interviews, and waiting tests my patience every single day.
Lord, I ask your divine intervention to guide me through these challenges, providing me with the wisdom needed to overcome every hurdle.
The hardest thing for me is the waiting. The longer I wait, the more doubt creeps in causing me so much anxiety and fear. Lord, grant me the patience to endure this and the faith to trust in your perfect timing. Help me to remember that you are working behind the scenes to bring my child into my life at the right moment.
Lord, I acknowledge that adoption is not just a legal process but a spiritual one. I pray that you will be at the center of this adoption journey, leading me every step of the way. Pour out your love, grace, and mercy on my family. Help us to reflect on you in all of our interactions, showing others a glimpse of your unconditional love.
Help me to extend my heart with compassion for the birth parents, understanding the depth of their sacrifice. Help me to offer love and support and to always remember the courageous decision they have made.
Finally, be with my child. Watch over him and comfort him. Even though he doesn’t know me, help him to know that he is so greatly loved. Amen.
Prayer For An Adoptive Child
Father, I come today lifting up this precious child and asking for your love and blessings on his life. You are the creator and You have formed this child with purpose and love.
Even before he comes into my arms, You know every detail about him. You know his joys, fears, and dreams. You know his past, present, and future. You know his struggles and know his heart. You are there with him when he cries, and You give him comfort.
Father, I pray for my child’s well-being and safety. Wherever he is right now, I ask that You keep him in Your tender care. Comfort him in moments of sadness or uncertainty. Let him know that You are with him. Let him feel Your loving arms surround him.
As I prepare to become a parent to this child, I ask for your wisdom and discernment. Help me to understand his unique needs, fears, and desires. Give me the patience and understanding to comfort him the way he needs me to. Help me provide a loving home where he can find peace and thrive.
I pray for his healing, Lord. He has experienced loss, and I ask You to help him find courage and resilience in his own story. Give me the right words to say to help him understand this transition. Amen.
Prayer For The Adoption Process
Heavenly Father, You are the ultimate source of love and compassion, and I know that You have a special plan for my life and the life of the child I am adopting. I come to you asking for wisdom, strength, and perseverance throughout this process.
Adopting can be filled with so many obstacles. All of the paperwork, interviews, home studies, and meetings can test my patience and cause me to be anxious and even angry. Lord, grant me peace when I am in the thick of it. When I feel like I just can’t go on, give me the strength to persevere.
Remind me that you are with me every step of the way, holding me through my tears and frustrations. Help me to continue to navigate through this process with grace and resilience.
Give me the wisdom to make sound decisions and the right resources to support me in this journey. Open the doors that need to be opened and close the doors that need to be closed, so that I can bring the child home that you have chosen to be part of my family.
Fill my heart with hope and remind me that You work in Your perfect timing. Help me to surrender my fears and worries to You, knowing that Your love for me is unconditional and unending. Amen.
Prayers For Birth Parents
Father God, I come to you with a prayer of deep compassion and gratitude for the birth parents who have made the selfless decision to entrust their precious child to us. I ask for Your divine blessings and comfort for them during this process.
Lord, you know the circumstances and challenges these birth parents face. You see the depth of their love and the strength of their sacrifice. I pray that You will surround them with Your love and peace, giving them reassurance that they have made the best choice for their child.
Give them strength and courage to face grief or uncertainty that may arise. Give them a community of support and understanding to help carry their burdens.
Help them to find peace in the knowledge that their child is already so loved. He will be cherished in our family and is truly an answer to our prayers. May they find comfort in the knowledge that You are with them, guiding their steps and holding them close. Amen.

Just as we are adopted into His family through our faith in Jesus, we see the beauty of adoption mirrored in our human experiences. Adoption embodies selflessness, sacrifice, and a profound desire to provide a loving home for a child in need.
