6 Helpful Prayers For Being Flexible And Adaptable

Last Updated on October 25, 2023 by Emma

People of every age struggle on some level with change. As a young girl working at a nursing home, I recognized that even after a lifetime of dealing with change these older residents still struggled with it.

So how do we become more flexible and adaptable? We must first start with prayer.

It is important we are flexible and adaptable as we strive to carry out what Christ has called us to do, share the Good News.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV)

There are many times in life when our priorities or pride get in the way of accomplishing this mission and we have to remember it is important to be flexible.

Paul demonstrated this in Acts when he says “I make myself a slave to everyone” (1 Corinthians 9:15-23 ESV)

For the purpose of sharing the Gospel, Paul was very flexible. Even though he understood and could relate more to the Jewish people, he adapted to be able to share with the gentiles.

So is flexibility and adaptability always a good thing? Wouldn’t being flexible in some situations allow us to be weak in our stance on the Gospel? Isn’t adapting to the world’s standards cause us to sin? Wouldn’t being flexible and adaptable just make us vulnerable to being trampled all over?

Yes, and we should never be weak or vulnerable in these areas. However, Paul demonstrates we should be flexible and adaptable when it comes to Kingdom work. Not flexible in what the Good News is, never flexing what God’s word says.

Instead humbling ourselves to know that God will use us in different ways, in different circumstances with different people in order to further His Kingdom.

So pray for flexibility, and strive to be adaptable, for kingdom purposes.

Short Prayer About Flexibility

God, I pray that you create in me a flexible heart so I can serve you in any way you lead. I want to become understanding and flexible so that I can further the kingdom wherever you have me.

God, when I’m tempted to do things my way helps me to see that being flexible could be more loving and open more doors to share you.

God, help me to grow beyond just believing in what I’ve seen or thought but rather help me be flexible to the revelation revealed in your word.

God, I pray for my church to be flexible to see areas where they may be weak and adjust to further your kingdom.

Finally, I pray that you help me be flexible in seeing the needs of others. Help me to be more aware and compassionate. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers For Adapting To Change

Heavenly Father, I pray that you help me adapt to change. There are many changes in my life right now. Everything that once felt stable feels like it is very shifty.

Help me to find my firm foundation in you alone, God. You are the cornerstone on which I lay my life and to this, I give you praise. When there are so many changes in my life I know I can trust in you to be constant.

Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ (Isaiah 28:16 ESV)

God, help me as I adapt to change to trust in Jesus, my savior. It seems hard to trust in Jesus when there are so many changes.

Change can feel scary and cause me to feel weak. God, help me to find strength in you and find comfort in your safety.

God, I’m sorry for trying to take control, and for struggling so much with the change in my life. Help me to be fully committed to you. Help me to turn from the sin in my life and cling to the hope that is only found in you.

Help me to trust in you more, my heart is yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers For Flexibility With My Thoughts

God, I know I get stuck in my thoughts. I struggle to hear and trust new truths or be told I’m wrong.  When I come to your Word all the thoughts I thought were true are ruffled, shaken, and cause me to be anxious and frustrated.

God, I want to know your truth because I know it is the only truth. I need this even if it means abandoning the way I’ve always thought in the past.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16 ESV)

God, give me the flexibility to be able to see your truths clearly. Open my eyes just like you did for Paul on the road to Damascus. Help me to see who you are clearly and give me the flexibility I need in my life to be able to live for you full-heartedly.

Prayers For Adapting To Other’s Needs

God, I’ve noticed that I am comfortable serving others in just a few ways. There are many opportunities to serve others through my church and community but they make me uncomfortable to think about.

Jesus, you taught us how we should serve and love others. Help me to open my eyes to the least of these in my community.

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (Matthew 25:40 ESV)

God, help me to be flexible in how I can serve others, even if it makes me uncomfortable. Help me to go outside of my comfort zone to serve you and love people the way you desire.

Prayers When My Life Seems To Have No Flexibility

God, I feel like there is no flexibility in my week. Every morning I wake up, eat the same thing for breakfast, go to work, have family time, go to bed, and repeat. Weekends are full of planned events and running around, and it never feels like there is enough time.

Even what I want to do for you, God is scheduled. Morning prayer and devotional, midweek Bible study, every Sunday, church. I schedule times to disciple my children when to be hospitable, and to who I will text a message of encouragement.

God, how can I be open to your calling when there is no flexibility? Help me learn how to be flexible. God, I see that all of this scheduling is my effort to be in control. God, help me instead to see clearly that you are in control and I need to be flexible to where you are calling me.

God, will you please help me to have a good week?

God, help me to remember who I am in you. My identity is not in my schedule but rather a sinner saved by grace through faith as a recipient of God’s great love (Ephesians 2:4-5). Through Christ’s death and resurrection, I have been made into a new creation as I have come to believe in him.

Father thank you for who I am in you. Help me to never forget this. When I remember this truth it helps me to release control back to you and helps me to be more flexible.

Almighty God, you created me for a purpose, forgive me for trying to be in control. Thank you for all you have done in my life. Please restore fresh eyes to you and your work. Allow me to be flexible to where ever you have called me. In Jesus’ name, I pray all this, Amen.

Prayer For Flexibility With My Spouse

Dear Heavenly Father, my husband just surprised me with a change in life plans. You know we were just about to be settled and finally, a routine was in place. I don’t want to leave. I love my husband but being flexible right now doesn’t feel good.

God, help me to be flexible for my husband. I respect him as the leader of our family. I prayed for many years that he would step up and lead and now that he is I’m struggling to be flexible enough to follow.

For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. (Ephesians 5:23 ESV)

God, I’m so tempted to dig my feet in and resist change. Help me to adapt to what you are calling our family to do.

Forgive me, God, for not trusting in you. I know that ultimately you are leading my husband and to trust in him is trusting in you.

Lord, I pray you help me to be flexible in this season of life as I trust my husband to lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
