What an exciting time in your life when you are ready to buy property and set down roots. It can also be a time that can be overwhelming and scary. These are perfect times to go to God in prayer.
God knows how important property is. It allows us to feel secure and at home. Perhaps you are buying property to build a home or a business on. Maybe it’s to farm or for missionary work. Whatever you are buying land for God wants to help you through this process.
As I read through scripture I’m reminded how important property is, especially in the Old Testament. God promised Abraham land and was faithful to fulfill His promise.
“You shall therefore keep the whole commandment that I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and take possession of the land that you are going over to possess, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey. (Deuteronomy 11:8 ESV)
And now, as believers, we also have a promise.
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Peter 2:13 ESV)
While we wait for our inheritance of this new heavens and new earth we must also live honoring in this life. We are glad you are seeking God through prayer in regard to this big purchase.

Short Prayer For Buying Land
God, you are overall. Help me to trust you as I am buying land.
Help me to find the land that you desire me to have. Give me wisdom about the place and the amount I should invest in this opportunity.
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. (Proverbs 3:13 ESV)
God, will you please give me the confidence to come to you throughout this whole process? When I’m nervous, tired, or confused I know I can find rest in you. When I feel alone or unstable, I know you are there and hold me steady.
This process is not easy and I’m turning to you now to help. Help me during this process of buying land. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Buying Property
Dear Heavenly Father, this whole world is under your rule. You have created it all and it all belongs to you.
Jesus, you left your place in Heaven to come dwell upon man. For that moment in time, you spent your days in this broken world. At moments you must have longed to be home with your Father. I even now ache for heaven and have not yet been there.
You are such a relatable God, you have experienced all that I am going through.
For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:18 ESV)
You know that I also long right now for stability in my life. It seems like I have been thrown from here and there and I just want a property to call my home.
God, give me peace and patience as I wait for your plan to unfold. I know you will provide. Give me the confidence to wait on you.
God, you are such an amazing God. You have created me for community and demonstrate perfect communion in the Trinity. Right now as I wait and look for property I feel adrift and don’t have a desire to invest in relationships. However, I don’t want to be alone.
God, will you please help me to be patient while I search for property? God, I pray you go before me and help my new property be an area where I can build a community around me. I desire to be in a community and church of believers that love and glorify you. Would you be so kind as to provide that?
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” (Genesis 2:18 ESV)
God, help me to not be alone now as I look for property and in the future. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer to Trust God While Buying Land
Father, you are the great provider. You feed the birds and dress the lilies and I want to trust you as I look and buy property but it is hard.
The unknowns surrounding me as I look to buy land seem so overwhelming. Please let your truths about providing for me to be a real comfort in my life. Help me to trust in those promises fully.
God, you have promised to provide for me and I trust you will. You promised God that you would take care of all my needs. I trust you will not for my own comfort and satisfaction but for your glory. I trust that you will put me in the right piece of land where I can grow and glorify you amongst my neighbors.
God, today I pray with faith that you will keep your promises. You have never failed and I know you won’t fail now. With the confidence I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer To Find My True Home In Christ
God, I want my true home to be in you, for you are the only secure thing in my life. You are the same and you keep your promises. You have been faithful throughout all of history and you are faithful to me even now. My home is in you.
Lord, as I seek to find my own property I have seen how I have put my hope in other things than you. I trusted in my bank account, thinking that would promise me what I wanted. I have seen how I long for the security of my own place rather than trusting in you.
Forgive me Lord for trusting in these things. Forgive me for being so prideful that I thought I could control things like this. You give and you take away, it is all in your hands, so today I trust you more fully.
God, during this process I have felts so insecure and worried I would never have a place of my own. But you have brought me to my knees and pray that throughout the rest of this search for property, I would truly find my home in you alone. Your goodness is so good. I pray this, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
There’s a deep vulnerability that comes from displacement and housing insecurity. I’ve felt it myself; and, no doubt, you feel it, too. But as you scroll and search and wait to sign, let your open hands remind you that you always rest secure in the palm of God’s hand, hidden safely away in Christ.
Whether your search for a home is short or long, God invites you to trust that his care for you is rooted in his lavish goodness. If you’re sleeping on a friend’s couch tonight or waiting for the landlord to renew your lease, God offers security when you feel rootless and abundance when you see your life divvied up in moving boxes. Regardless of what the housing market might say, in Christ, you’re already home.
Closing Thoughts
We know that finding a piece of property can be stressful. There are so many different desires that you have and it’s a huge financial investment. Sometimes the search is quick and other times it’s long.
Through it all God wants you to trust Him through the whole process. It will be a big change to buy property and God loves when you let go and trust Him in these times.
