8 Hopeful Prayers For Choir Practice Or Rehearsal

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Do you need to pray about choir practice or rehearsal? Are you uncertain as to what to pray before or after a choir rehearsal?

Let these eight hopeful prayers for a choir rehearsal be of help to you. I might not have covered every situation around a choir rehearsal, but the sample prayers below can get you started. You are welcome to change the words as you need to, in order to make the prayer fit your circumstance.

You may also want to pray about a pastor leaving, or about a Bible study.

Being a part of a choir is typically a volunteer position. No one is paying you to show up and practice and sing. You are there because you want to serve in this manner and you want to sing. Choirs help everyone in the church sing with a bit more confidence and a bit more volume. When the choir is singing, people can blend their voices with yours and everyone sounds better.

The Apostle Paul gives us tremendous encouragement to sing praise to God:

“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3.16, NIV).

And with any endeavor, practice is always helpful. We can learn from each other, and a choir rehearsal is a great place for this to happen. As the bass and tenors join with the sopranos and altos, the beauty of the music really comes forth. For something this important, isn’t it worth praying about?

You may find that when you pray before and after a choir rehearsal, that the practice goes better.  You may find that patience and grace are more apparent. We invite you to keep praying and share your own requests in the comments section below.

Short Prayer Before a Choir Practise or Rehearsal

Dear Lord, I offer this prayer as begin our choir rehearsal tonight. Thank you for bringing everyone here safely. Thank you that we have good health and can sing songs of praise to you, O God. May you guide us through our practice so that we can lead the congregation well on Sunday. We are grateful for this opportunity to serve. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Short Prayer After a Choir Practise or Rehearsal

Dear God, we give you thanks for the really good practice we were able to have tonight. It’s a challenge to sing some of these songs, but we were able to pull it all together with hard work and your grace. For this we are grateful. I offer thanks for everyone’s input and hard work. May you grant us safe travel home tonight and deep, restful sleep to prepare us for tomorrow. I pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer Before an Easter Choir Rehearsal

Dear Lord, we are here at our final rehearsal before our big Easter worship service. We have several songs to practice and nail down some difficult singing parts. I pray for our time this morning, that we make good use of it, and that we have patience in the midst of several starts and stops.

I pray for all of our voices, that you help our vocal cords remain healthy. Let us make good use of our breaks this morning. Thank you for all of these people here, volunteering their time to lead the congregation in praise of Christ’s resurrection on Easter!

I am honored to lead them as their director. Help me get us all together so that we sound good and you are ultimately glorified.  Let us keep you as our focus. In the name of Jesus, our Savior, I pray, Amen.

Prayer After an Easter Choir Rehearsal

Thank you Lord Jesus for a wonderful practice for our Easter choir.  We had so many moving parts to this production and you helped us get it all done.  We are in good shape for later this week.

Thank you for our sound crew who have been so patient as we went over certain parts several times.  Thank you for our musicians who have repeatedly played the same music over and over as we fine-tuned what we are singing. I am so appreciative of how all of this involves so many people working together.

May what we have practiced lift you up.  May what we sing on Sunday draw people closer to you, O Lord.  I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer Before a Christmas Choir Rehearsal

Father God, what a joy to be a part of a choir where we can sing well-known and favorite Christmas songs in order to worship you.

I pray for our Christmas choir rehearsal tonight.  I pray that we sing with full effort and with the joy of Christ within us.  I thank you that we had good weather tonight so we could gather and practice.  I give thanks for a warm sanctuary on a cold night.

I pray that you keep our voices strong and clear. Help us all work together to lift you in song and praise.  I pray this prayer on behalf of all of us here, through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer After a Christmas Choir Rehearsal

What a joy it was to sing tonight, Lord God!  We had such a great choir rehearsal for our Christmas concert.  I’m already halfway home but I am still filled with happiness at how we sounded.

The songs were so perfect and we all sang in such connection with each other and your Spirit.  It was more like a worship service than a choir rehearsal.  Thank you for giving us this holy moment with you as we sang.

I am grateful that I took a step to join the choir even though I don’t think I sing all that well.  When I am with all the other people, my voice joins with theirs and together, we sound terrific.  Thank you for the chance to grow in my service by helping to sing.

May we sound this good on Sunday, Lord!  Hear my prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer Before Choir Rehearsal With a New Director

Dear God, I am not sure what to expect with our choir practice tonight. It’s the first one with our new choir director. This is the first time we will all be meeting her and we don’t know much about her. I hope that we take some extra time to really get to know each other.

I pray for her as she comes to this new place, and this new choir. I pray for all of the members of the choir to be open to her and give her a fair chance to lead us.  May we all have grace for each other and patience as we get used to how she directs, and she gets used to how we sing.

I pray for our expectations, that we be fair with her. I pray we don’t overburden her and accept her as she is. I pray for her expectations, that she understands that we are only as good as we are. I pray that she isn’t heavily critical of us. Overall, Lord, I pray for this to work, as I really enjoy singing in the choir.

I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer After Choir Rehearsal With a New Director

Dear God in heaven, I am so overjoyed and so relieved.  I know I had so many questions about our new choir director.  I’m sure others in the choir did as well.  It was a good idea for us just to meet tonight, without much expectation on actually practicing much.

He is a good man and it is clear that he loves music and helping people sing better.  He very much enjoys being a choir director and that was quickly obvious to all of us.  I think I could hear sighs of relief as he introduced himself to us.

I feel so good about what he will enable us to do in the future.  I am grateful that we can all learn and grow together.  I am thankful that we will be able to sing well and help the entire congregation focus their praise and worship on you, our God.

Thank you for sending our new choir director to us.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Isn’t it fun to sing? Even if you just sing in the shower or your car, singing opens us up in ways nothing else can. And when you sing in a choir, you get the benefit of improving your ability and working with others to produce a final product that helps people focus on God.

How wonderful is that?!

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song” (Psalm 95.1-2, NIV).

As you engage in choir practice, as a participant or as the director or musician, let these prayers help you keep your focus on the God you serve.  May your singing, directing, or playing be an offering of praise to God each week!
