The writer of Hebrews encourages us to hold on to what confidence we do have; not to toss it aside or forget about it:
“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10.35-36 , NIV).

Short Prayer For Confidence
Dear God, I am praying to you for confidence. I wish that I had more than I feel I do, but I ask that you give me what I don’t have, or don’t believe I have. I don’t know what that will look like or feel like, but I need to feel assurance in my situation and all I feel now is anxiety and trepidation. Please answer my prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.
Prayer For Self Confidence
Dear Lord, I wish I didn’t have to pray this prayer, but I really think I need more self-confidence. I don’t feel like I can do what I need to do. I don’t believe I am enough, for myself, or for anyone else.
I hate feeling this down on myself, but I don’t really have anything to grab hold of to pull me up to some level of certainty that I am okay, that I am good enough. I don’t really try anything new anymore because I don’t think I will be adept enough to finish it or be successful at it. It doesn’t matter what it may be.
I just want to feel good about myself. I want to like myself, to accept myself. I don’t know where to turn or what to do, so I am praying out of desperation, hoping that you will show me where to go. I need a clear direction, solid guidance, and even some sort of sign to help me. I am lost in my fear. Help me, Lord. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence In God
Father God, I feel very awkward praying this prayer because I am praying to have more confidence in you. Will you even hear my prayer or receive it, knowing that I don’t have 100% confidence in you, in The God of All?
But, I figure since you are the God above all other gods, then you can handle my lack of trust and confidence in you. I pray with hope that I can grow in being confident that you are who the Bible says you are. I pray with hope that you will help me trust you.
I want to be fully confident in you, believing that you will be, well, God. I don’t know how all of this works, but I believe enough to believe that you can help me. So, I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, Amen.
Prayer For Dealing With Self-Doubt
God in heaven, I don’t know whether I should pray for confidence, or pray to get rid of self-doubt. Maybe I will pray about both of those things. I just know I keep doubting myself on a daily basis.
I make a decision and then I worry about whether I made the right choice or not. I order something for lunch and then think, “Oh, I should have picked something healthier.” And on and on it goes throughout my day. I need help.
My life is being shackled by all of this doubt and I want to be unchained; I want to be free. Fill me with the confidence that comes from the Holy Spirit. Fill me with the belief that I can trust myself and I don’t have to fear what happens next. I want to be confident in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence On A Date
Dear God, I am going out on a date later this week and I am not feeling fully up for it. I haven’t gone on a date in quite a while, so I am very self-conscious right now. All of these questions are running around in my mind.
Does she like me? Will she appreciate the restaurant I chose? Will I like her? Will we even make it all the way through the meal. Am I a fool to even begin to start dating again? I can’t bring all of this into our date or it will all just crash.
I am asking for a boost of confidence so I can present the best version of myself. I don’t want to pretend to be somebody I’m not, but I certainly don’t want to show up as a twitchy, unconfident doubter. Help me get a handle on myself and to calm down. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence At Work
Father God, I am starting a new project at work and I am a little overwhelmed by how much I don’t know about what is being asked of me. I don’t want to fake it and end up messing everything up, but neither do I want to show up like a complete fool either.
I need to grasp how much I actually do know. I need to see this as a challenge that I can handle, with the right questions, and enough time to get up to speed on the issues. Basically, God, I am asking for more confidence as I step into this new project.
I don’t want to be afraid of asking questions, even though that means admitting I don’t know something. Help me do my best work as I lean into this opportunity. I pray this in the name of Jesus, in whom my faith is strong, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence On A Job Interview
Dear God, I am so glad that I made it through the screenings and now I have a job interview tomorrow. I have been out of the job market for a while I am not feeling all that confident that I will be able to answer their questions or show that I am the right person for this job role.
I want to feel more confident in who I am. Help me Lord, to remember all of my good qualities and the skills I have expertise in, as I talk with the interview team. I want to come across as ready for work, confident, and able to still learn and adapt.
I need what I don’t have so I come to you, the Author and Finisher of my faith, to come alongside me in this interview. Through Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence With A School Presentation
God in heaven, I have a presentation to do in one of my classes tomorrow and I don’t feel up to it at all. I keep thinking that I will fail, or that I will forget everything and not even be able to speak. I can’t be ruled by fear, Lord.
I know you can help me conquer this fear. I believe you can give me the confidence I need to do my best. I have prepared the actual presentation and it’s ready to go. I know the material, but I need an extra boost to communicate powerfully and effectively.
This is not just about getting a good grade (although that would be nice, considering how much work I’ve done), but it’s more about feeling at ease up in front of everyone. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Strength In My Relationships
God, I am praying to you because I am not certain what else to do. I feel like my relationships are lacking something. I am doubting the connection I have with people and want to be more confident that these people will have my back.
I want to have stronger relationships with the people in my life but I don’t know how to achieve that. I’m guessing it involves more time together or being more vulnerable, but I’m not feeling confident enough to bring it up with any of my current friends.
I need some sort of guidance or opening so I know I am headed in the right direction with the people I care for. Help me in my relationships I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence As I Retire
Dear Lord God, I am struggling to accept that I will be retiring in a few months. My career has been fulfilling and challenging but it’s about to be over sooner than I think.
I am experiencing some serious hesitation as my retirement date looms large on the calendar. What am I going to do when I retire? Should I have stayed on a little longer? I’d like to exit my job with confidence and entire the retirement season of my life with greater certainty, but right now, there’s just a lot of doubt.
I can’t undo my retirement, as that train has left the station, as it were. But I am asking for more confidence that in retirement I will still be fulfilled and active and have purpose. Help me see what I am currently blind to for what is coming next. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence Before Surgery
On one hand, Lord, I should be giving thanks that I am having surgery next week. My annual doctor’s visit revealed I have some internal things going on that need to be addressed, and soon.
On the other hand, though, I am not looking forward to this surgery with a great deal of confidence. It’s not that I don’t trust the doctors or anything. It’s more that this seems to be a sign to me that I have gotten older and I am not the person I used to be, or wanted to be.
It’s like I’ve broken down in some way. I want to enter that surgical room with confidence that this is needed and will be successful and that I will have an enhanced life as a result. I don’t want to be surrounded by negative thoughts or self-doubt. Help me get through this, trusting in you as I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence In Giving A Eulogy
Dear God, one of my very good friends recently died and her husband asked me to give one of the eulogies. I have never done something like this in my life. While I have spoken in front of people as part of my job, this isn’t a presentation or a sales pitch.
I need to get up there in the church and share about my friend and honor her memory and the positive impact she had on my life and many others as well. Even as I pray this, I am thinking I need to ask my pastor for some pointers on how to think this through and write this out.
I don’t want to make a fool of myself or cause more grief because I mess this up. I am praying for a good amount of confidence as I prepare and speak. I am asking you for your help because I believe that there is nothing you cannot do. I want to do this well. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Confidence To Get Engaged
Dear Father in Heaven, I have been dating this woman for over a year now and I think she is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I am pretty sure she feels the same way about me. We have talked about engagement but not actually talked about it for real.
I am praying for confidence in taking this next step. I want to ask her to marry me. I don’t want to be filled with self-doubt as I do. I want to ask confidently, letting her see my love and trust for her. I also don’t want to flub this up when I ask her for her hand in marriage.
Help me rid my mind of negativity and doubt and worry. Help me trust you as I step forward in faith, and in love. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Final Thoughts
If you are in need of more confidence, where are you going to go to get more of what you think you need? Your friends could give you a boost of encouragement. Or, your family might be able to tell you, “You’ve got this! You can do it!”
That may be helpful, but if you are really in search of confidence, then who better to turn to than your Creator and Redeemer? It is because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection that we can pray to God about anything, anywhere, and at any time. We can ask God with boldness for what we need.
“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” (Ephesians 3.12, NIV).
The Apostle Paul’s encouragement can uplift your spirit. Just the fact that you are free to come to God without any special words needed, or be limited to a certain day should fill you with more confidence than you had a minute ago! Even the scripture itself says we have confidence through Jesus Christ.
You can rest, assured by the truth of scripture and the love of God, that the confidence you seek can be found. You can move forward in the situation you are facing without being hesitant or uncertain. You can step out in strength, knowing that you are supported by God, and guided by the Holy Spirit.
