7 Helpful Prayers For Hiring A New Employee

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Need to hire a new employee and want to make sure you have the right person? Want to pray about it?

These seven helpful prayers for hiring a new employee may be exactly what you need right now. Each prayer covers a specific aspect of the hiring process, or a typical concern with hiring someone. You are welcome to alter the wording as you need to, in order to make the prayer specific to your circumstances and concern.

Having gone through this process several times myself, I want to give you some practical encouragement, along with the prayers. It may help to have some questions written out for when you talk with each candidate. That way, you’re not trying to think of things off the top of your head.

You want to get to know them as a person above all. At the same time, you want to assess their values, skills, and fit for the position. Some good questions to ask include:

  • How do you handle conflict with co-workers?
  • Name a time when you had a positive experience working on a team?
  • What are your thoughts on customer service?

Of course, praying before, during, and after the hiring process will help keep you both focused and calm. You may find that you have clearer thinking about each person as you pray throughout the time you are searching for a new employee.

You may also want to take time and look at prayers for team building, or prayers for positive outcomes. There’s no limit to the amount of prayer help you can get for yourself. I always look for as much help as I can get when I need to pray about a particularly concerning situation in my life. I encourage you to do so as well!

The Apostle Paul reminds us that you’re not hiring a new employee only for their talent; they also need to be able to work well with others in your business.

“Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals” ( 1 Corinthians 15.33, ESV).

May your search for a new employee go well, and may these prayers help you with guidance and wisdom. Let us hear from you in the comments section below. We want to know how God is working in your prayer life.

Dear Lord God, I need to hire a new employee soon and I am coming to you in prayer because I want to make sure I get the right person for the job. They will need to fit in here with our workflow and work culture. I pray for guidance to see not just what’s on their resume, but who they really are in the interview. I want this whole process to go well, Lord. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Hiring The Right Person

Dear God, I am praying for guidance as I hire a new employee. Please help me to see the good in each candidate and to choose the one who is best suited for the job. I want to hire the right person for this position and for our company.

I ask that you would give me wisdom and discernment as I make this decision. Help me to ask the right questions and to get to know each candidate well. I pray that you would lead me to the right person, someone who will be a blessing to our team. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For The Hiring Process

Dear Lord, will you give me patience as I go through the hiring process? I know that it takes time to find the right person, and I don’t want to rush into a decision. Please help me to be patient and to trust in your timing. I don’t want to hire the wrong person just because I am in a rush.

I pray that you would help me to stay positive and hopeful throughout the process.  Let me be fully present with each person I interview. I know that you have a plan for our company, and I trust that you will lead the best person for this team to us. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For Interviewing A Possible New Employee

Father God, I am interviewing possible new employees this week and I want to ask you for clarity. I want to be able to see the good in each person and to assess their skills and fit for the job. Please help me to ask good questions and to listen carefully to the answers. I’ll need discernment there, Lord.

I am grateful for the advice of a colleague who told me to space out the interviews, so I can give full attention to each person. I don’t want to miss anything when I talk with them, so I pray for strength and stamina this week. I pray for each candidate for the job to be able to present their best self in the interview. Thank you for hearing my prayer through Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For Potential New Employees

Lord God, I come to you in prayer about the potential new employees I will meet this week. I pray that you would give each of them peace and confidence as they go through the process. Help them to be honest and to answer my questions fully. May I be a calming presence so that they don’t feel overly nervous. I want them to be themselves when I talk with them.

As I seek your guidance for which person to hire, I pray that you would bless them with the job if it is your will. May the right person be clear after all of this hiring process is over. I pray that the right person is a great asset to our team. I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For A New Employee To Be A Good Fit

Dear Lord God, I need to hire a new employee and I am praying for a good fit for our company culture. I’d like to find someone who shares our values and who will be a good addition to our team. Please help me to see the red flags and to avoid hiring someone who would not be a good fit. Help me see what’s behind their qualifications–to the real person.

I pray that you would help us to create a positive and productive work environment that the new employee will want to be a part of. I ask for clarity to know which person of these equally qualified people is the right fit. I don’t want to have to go through this process again in six months because I didn’t hire the right person. Help know the one. In the strong name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer About Hiring The Best Candidate

Dear God, I am praying for a blessing on our company. I pray that you would help us to find the right person for the job and that you would bless our team with unity and productivity. There are several good candidates, but I am praying specifically for you to guide me to the best candidate.

I know that you have a plan for our company, and I trust that you will lead us to the right person. Thank you for your guidance and for your blessing throughout this whole process of hiring a new employee. I am so grateful I am not doing this on my own strength. In the name of Jesus, I lift this prayer to you, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

When you are considering hiring a new employee, you want to make sure that you’re hiring someone who can align with the values of the company and who will be a good fit for your work needs and their potential co-workers.

As you pray about hiring a new employee, also ask God for clarity as you consider these key questions:

Start with your values. What are the most important values to you in your business? Do you want to hire someone who is honest, hardworking, and reliable? Or do you value creativity, innovation, and risk-taking? Once you know what your values are, you can start to look for candidates who share them.

Be clear about your expectations. What are the responsibilities of the position? What are the hours? What are the expectations for performance? Be sure to communicate these expectations to the candidates so that there are no surprises later on.

Get to know the candidate. In addition to asking questions, take some time to get to know the candidate on a personal level. What are their interests? What are their hobbies? What are their passions? Getting to know the candidate on a personal level can help you determine if they would be a good fit for your company culture.

Praying through each step of the hiring process keeps you connected to God and less likely to get pulled into anxious thinking or self-doubt. Praying to God about hiring a new employee enables you to keep hope in the forefront of your mind:

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” ( Romans 5.5, NIV).

Remember, you’re not just hiring someone to fill a position, you’re hiring someone to join your team and be a part of your company culture. Let your prayer journey with God about this guide you, calm you, and help you make the best decision.
