Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come” (2 Corinthians 5.17, NIV).

Although we tried to cover several Monday scenarios, we may not have covered them all, so feel free to modify any of the prayers to suit your particular circumstance.  The purpose of these prayers is to help you pray about Monday in a way you might not have considered before now.

They’re also to give you a prayer to pray if you’re uncertain how to pray.  Know that God hears whatever you pray. You don’t need fancy words or a job title to pray.

Allow these prayers, and your time with God in prayer, to build up your spiritual strength.  Let God’s Spirit meet you as you pray, filling you with love, grace, mercy, and power.  Then, as you walk into your Monday, you do so with purpose and God’s peace.

Whatever your mission is on this Monday, let it be enveloped in prayer to God, who created all things, including time.  May you be strengthened in your relationship with God as you pray.

Short Prayer For Monday

Dear God, I pray to you about today, Monday, as I begin this week.

Watch over me as I travel and work and eat and rest.  Let this Monday be the beginning of a new week and a new beginning in my life and relationship with you.  I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

A Monday Morning Prayer

Lord, as I wake up from my sleep, my thoughts turn to you.  Today is Monday and it’s a new morning and a new work week.  Even before I get out of bed, I want to pray to you and listen for your voice.  Before I eat and shower and get into the things I have to do, I want to focus on you.

I trust that as I begin the day with you, I can continue the day with you, acknowledging your constant presence in my life. I trust in your promise to never leave us or abandon us.  I pray for all of the people I will encounter today, that I may be a witness for you in the way I treat them or talk with them.

I pray for my safety as I drive around today.  I pray for my family, while they sleep now, that they have a good Monday.  I pray all of these things through Jesus, the Author and Finisher of my faith, Amen.

A Monday Midday Prayer

Dear God, I pause in the middle of this Monday to give you thanks for a good morning.  I was able to focus and get a lot of work done.  My interactions with other people this morning were positive and I give you praise for working through me to be a light in the darkness.

I pray to you now, not just in giving thanks for the food I’m about to eat, but for your strength.  I know I can make it through this challenging Monday because of you and your Spirit filling me with peace.  Mondays always seem to be tough because everything piles up over the weekend, but when I pray to you, I have perspective.

Thank you for helping me pray more regularly as I begin the workweek each Monday.  I know being with you in prayer is comforting to me.  I’m halfway done for the day, so I pray for continued guidance through the afternoon in all I do.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

A Monday Evening Prayer

Lord God, thank you for getting me through this Monday.  It seemed like there were challenges and opportunities one after the other.  I thank you for the good and bad of this day and giving me strength to handle it all, for I know I couldn’t have done it on my own.

As I dealt with people, you helped me be patient and listen to them.  As I dealt with tasks to be accomplished, you gave me clarity of thought to do each one.  I pray to you now with gratitude in my heart.

The day isn’t done so I pray for your presence to be evident as I go home and be with my family.  I am thankful for the weekend, but as this Monday winds down, I am thankful also for a day to work and be with purpose.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A Monday Prayer Before Going to Bed

What a day, God!  Mondays always seem to be filled with major stress points, for what reason I don’t know.  It’s like things pile up over Saturday and Sunday and get unleashed on Monday.  My inbox was full of emails that had to be read.  Things I thought were handled last week got reopened as Monday unfolded.

I made it through by your strength and by your grace.  As I prepare to go to sleep, I pray for deep rest tonight.  I pray my sleep be enriching and renewing.  I know there was good that happened this day and for that I am thankful.  But mostly, Lord, this Monday was not a great day.

So, as I go to bed, I pray to you to put this Monday to bed as well.  When I awaken on Tuesday, I awaken to a new day and this Monday will be the past and over.  I thank you for how you protected me today, and guided me.  Even as one challenge after another came my way, I knew I was not alone, for you are with me, in the valley of the shadow of a daunting Monday.

I pray all of this and trust in your love for me, this day and every day, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

A Monday Prayer For School

Dear Lord, I begin a new school year on Monday.  I’m not only moving up a grade, but I’m also moving up to a new school.  It’s a whole different place, with new teachers whom I don’t know and they don’t know me.  I don’t know where to go, or even where the cafeteria is.

Some of my friends will be there with me, but others are going to a different school.  Starting at a new school is already stressful, but to do it on a Monday, with a whole week ahead of me?  God, I need your help!

Monday isn’t even here yet and I am anxious.  I pray for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to surround me and fill me.  I pray for the love and grace of Jesus Christ to be evident within me.  I pray for your strength to get me through this upcoming Monday.

I’m glad I can pray to you and I know you hear me, even if I can’t see you.  I am thankful that you are with me through everything–your goodness and mercy follows me all the days of my life.  I trust, that as I pray, you are already at work making the path straight for me for Monday.  I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

A Monday Prayer For Work

God, I have to work today, Monday, and for that, I am thankful.  It wasn’t too long ago that I did not have a job, for Monday, or any day.  You have given blessing and provision through this new job, and I give you all the praise!

That said, this new job has its challenges, especially for an already challenging Monday.  My new boss is coming in today so I want to be ready.  I know I do good work but help me to be able to speak clearly, think positively, and handle my interactions with my boss with grace and confidence.

Of course I want to make a good first impression, but more than that, I want to not be anxious or filled with worry.  Work in my heart to release my burdens and cast my cares upon you.  Let me be filled with power and love, not fear.  I pray for a good Monday.  I pray for a good work day.  I pray this through Lord Jesus, Amen.

A Monday Prayer To Start a New Habit

Dear God in heaven, I don’t know why I picked Monday to start this new habit of mine, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.  Monday is the start of the work week, so why not make it the day I began a healthy habit of walking each day?

I’m hoping that this new habit I start on Monday will gain momentum with the start of the week.  I will take all the positivity I can get!  I start walking because I need to for health reasons.  I also start walking because I want to.  I’m tired of being tired and I know my health has a lot to do with that.

Walking is something I can do, although I don’t think I can go very far.  So, for this Monday, I ask for a good feeling as I walk for however long I walk.  I pray for even the slightest bit of endurance.  I pray for patience with myself as I begin this new habit.  Help me with the perspective that this is literally one day at a time.

I pray this things and trust you are already at work in guiding me and helping me.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

A Monday Prayer For a Fresh Start

Lord, it’s time for a fresh start and what better day to to start than on a Monday!  My life and life around me have been a mess for quite a long time.  But, as of last week, I am out of that relationship and all of those circumstances.  Today, I begin anew!

Cliche’ as it may be, this really is the first day of the rest of my life.  I know it will take time to shed the habits and thought patterns of my old life.  I know each day will have its own challenges.  But on this Monday, I pray for a good day, a positive day.  I pray that when this day is over, I will have a tangible sense that I am heading in the right direction.

I need affirmation and confirmation that this fresh start is the way to go.  I need to hear your voice saying to me, “Look neither to the right nor the left, but this is the way and walk in it.”  Help me Lord!  I choose to believe that I went through all I went through to get to this point because it was your will and your way.

I ask that you show me on this Monday that is true.  I’m a weak human, Lord, so I need something that shows me I made the right decision.  I pray this prayer in the faith in you God, who is the same yesterday, now, and always.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

A Monday Prayer For Your Household

Lord God, I come to you in prayer on this Monday morning for my home and my family.  I know that when I pray to you, you hear me and that gives me comfort and strength.

There has been a lot of vandalism in our neighborhood the last few days, so I pray that you protect this house and our property.  Enable the police to catch those doing this damage.

I pray for my family, my spouse and my children.  This Monday they head off to work and school and I pray for their safety.  May you guide them in everything they do and give them gracious clarity in the challenges they may face.

I thank you for the life I have right now.  I thank you that I have a home and a family.  It wasn’t that far in the past that I wasn’t sure if this reality would ever come into being.  But it has.  And so, as this Monday begins, I am filled with both gratitude and concern.  Thank you for your blessings.  Help us in our concerns.

I pray this through Jesus Christ, our Guide, our Rock, our Salvation, Amen.

Thankful Prayer For Monday

Lord God, it’s a Monday and  I am thankful for the opportunity to start a new week and to make a difference in the world in whatever I do today.

I give you thanks for my job, for my colleagues, and for the opportunity to use my skills and talents to serve others. I am also thankful for the challenges that I will face this week, because I know that they will help me to grow and to become more like you.

Help me to be productive and efficient at work today. I need to make wise decisions and to solve problems creatively so that we all can succeed and thrive. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Consider This

Did you know that Mondays are named after the moon?  Ancient Babylonians created our modern calendar based on the lunar cycle.  Then the ancient Romans named the days after various gods and goddesses relating to certain planets.

Anglo-Saxon cultures influenced how we know and call the days of the week now.  The emperor Constantine, a convert to Christianity, instituted the current week,  with Sunday as the first day of the week.  In Judeo-Christian understanding, Sunday is the first day of the week to recognize the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Internationally, Monday is the start of the week.

This brief history lesson is helpful for us to understand why Monday has special significance for us.  It’s the first day after the weekend, or the first day after a Sunday rest day, or the first day of a typical work week.  Each understanding means Monday is viewed as a beginning.

As such, when you pray for your Monday situation, you are calling on God for a new day, a new week.

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43.18-19, NIV).

The past really is the past and you can’t go back and retrieve it.  You don’t really get “do-overs,” but you can use Monday as a new beginning.  You can use Monday as a “do-better” for a better tomorrow or even a better month.  You can pray about whatever you face on a Monday and use it as a “learn-from-my-mistakes-and-make-a-good-decision-this-time” opportunity.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3.11, NIV).

Although we tend to view time with a shorter perspective, God’s view of time is not like ours.

So, in God’s time, all things are made beautiful.  God has set time in our hearts so we are aware of the passing of time and the hope of what is ahead.  We can face this future with hope through Jesus Christ.  We can begin a Monday in expectant hope that God has begun to work on our behalf, and in accordance with his will before we even were awake.

As you pray for your Monday, be aware of God’s eternal presence with you.  Embrace this reality and allow God to guide you through your day. This is true whether you’re praying on a Monday to start your week or a Friday to wrap things up!
