6 Thoughtful Prayers For My Daughter’s Future Husband

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

My 5-month-old daughter was recently baptized. At her party, we told our close friends and family that our greatest desire for Lucille was for her to know and love God and know she is loved by Him. We have already begun praying this same prayer for her future husband.

Some might think that’s silly, to pray for a 5-month-old’s husband. That’s decades away right? It’s never too soon, or too late, to pray for her spouse!

After being married for 5 years we have found it crucial to have Christ at the center of our marriage. We have to be a team and make decisions for our family with God’s plan in mind. I want for my daughter, all the things my husband has been for me. We want for her what the Scriptures say a husband should be:

  1. Sacrificial: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25, NIV)
  2. Respectful: “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21, NIV)
  3. Honorable: “husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself (Ephesians 5:28, NIV)

These are just a few of the characteristics we hope for Lucille’s future husband.  I will give you 6 prayers for your daughter’s future husband but feel free to customize them to specific desires you have for her husband.

Short Prayer for Daughter’s Future Husband

God, I love my daughter so much. I hope her future husband is someone who is worthy of her. She is a strong woman of worth who deserves the very best.  I hope her future husband is chasing after Your heart. I hope he is a man of honor and integrity who will put my daughter second, only to You, O Lord. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Daughter to Find a Husband

Dear Jesus, I want my daughter, (name), to find a husband. She is (age) and desires to find someone to spend her life with. She acts like she doesn’t care, but I know she truly desires to spend her days with someone special.

She is in a difficult phase of life where all of her friends are dating, engaged, or married. It’s difficult for her to be happy for her friends when I know there is a little jealousy behind every bachelorette party, wedding, and baby shower.

However, Your timing is perfect so I know they will meet when you want them to. I pray that she is attentive to Your voice when the time comes for them to meet. I pray she sees You in Him. Help her to be patient as she waits for her partner.

I pray my daughter and her future husband will have a holy friendship together before pursuing a romantic relationship. I know that’s not always how things work, but I think the basis for a long lasting marriage is friendship first.

Thank you for Your guiding hand throughout our whole lives O, Lord. We trust in You and Your providence to find the perfect husband for our daughter. We know only You are perfect, but there is one person you have hand picked for our daughter to spend her life with. He will be the perfect person to lead her closer to You. Thank O, God. In Your Name, I pray. Amen

Prayer for Patience for Daughter to Find a Husband

It’s hard to wait to find your spouse when relationships are all around you. It’s a privilege to have someone who will love and care for you all the days of your life. I know our daughter craves this companionship and I want this for her as well.

Patience is a virtue and we pray she uses this time to grow as a woman of worth. Someone once told me to pray with a passage from 1 Corinthians and replace the word love and it with your name. Today I pray this for (daughter’s name).

[Love] is patient, [love] is kind. [Love] does not envy, [it] does not boast, [it] is not proud.  [Love] does not dishonor others, [it] is not self-seeking, [it] is not easily angered, [it] keeps no record of wrongs.  [Love] does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [Love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV).

May (name) grow in these areas as she waits to meet her future husband. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Daughter’s Future Husband to be a Spiritual Leader

Glory to God in the highest! One thing we ask of our daughter’s future husband is that he will be a spiritual leader for her and any children they might have. I take this passage from Ephesians seriously:

For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior” (Ephesians 5:23, NIV).

I know our daughter’s husband won’t be a dictator as he should make decisions with her best interest. However, I hope he is someone who will take charge of their family and make decisions that will glorify You.

May he have the desire and courage to lead prayer, dive into Scripture daily, and push (daughter’s name) to grow as a disciple of Christ. We hope he challenges her to put Christ at the center of her thoughts and to serve selflessly for love of God.

Please place a man in her life who desires to be a spiritual leader. I pray for his parents that they are instilling in him the importance of this characteristic and that he has a father who is a good example of leading a home towards Jesus. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Daughter’s Future Husband to Put God First

Dear God, Your Son says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12: 30-31, NIV).

If these are your greatest commandments then they are my biggest prayers for our daughter’s future husband. I hope her husband is someone who loves you above all else. Someone who puts You first is someone who will treat (name) the way she deserves to be treated.

If he is struggling to put you first right now I pray that you take away the distractions. Give him the desire to be a holy man who prays daily and fervently.

I also pray he loves others as himself. Your Son served the poor selflessly and that is something we should be doing here on earth. It is our mission as Christians to be Your face, hands, and feet to those we encounter daily. We hope this mission is at the forefront of his mind.

If he is struggling in either of these areas please place someone in his path to help him grow. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Daughter’s Future Husband to Be a Virtuous Man

God, there are many virtues you want us to model as Christians. The Scriptures tell us that compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience are just a few of the characteristics we should embody as Christians (Colossians 3:12, NIV).

I fervently pray that (name’s) future husband is compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. When he sees those less fortunate than him may he remember to treat them with the love of Christ. May all the words that come from his lips be spoken with kindness, gentleness and love.

May he be a man who does not boast about his accomplishments. May he be someone who recognizes Your power and knows that he can do nothing without You. May he have a heart of humility. If he struggles in this area please give him the desire to change and/or put someone in his life to help him improve in this area.

Help him to grow in the virtues of fortitude and faith. If he doubts you at all Lord, please show him that you are a miracle worker. Help him to persevere in any trials he may be facing. In whatever area of his life he may be lacking please show up for him and help him to be a more virtuous man so that he can better love and lead our daughter to You. In Your Name, I pray. Amen

Concluding Thoughts

As a parent, we want what is best for our children and that can sometimes make the relationship challenging. We’ve spent our whole lives caring for and protecting them. A husband is someone who will take on that role for our daughters and we know that someone else is praying for her as a future wife.

The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh” (Genesis 2:23-24, NIV).

This verse shows us how important the relationship between a husband and wife is. If your daughter is to “become one flesh” with a man some day then it is never too early to pray that this man is someone who loves God above all else and will love her the way Christ loves His church.
