9 Closing Prayers For School Events or Activities

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Are you searching for closing prayers for a school event?  Have you been asked to say a prayer to close a school activity and aren’t sure what to pray?

Allow this website, and this article specifically, to be of help to you.  We’ve written nine closing prayers for a school event that you can choose from to use.

Feel free to modify the wording of the chosen prayer to fit your specific needs and circumstances.  If you don’t see your situation mentioned, then use one of the prayers that is close to it and start there.

There are many school events that happen over the course of a year.  Perhaps it’s a play, a community meeting, or an athletic event.  Maybe you’re praying about a school orientation event, or something else.  Since it’s usually up to administrators to lead these prayers, you might focus your attention on them, as they need your support as well.

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. 10 Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children” ( Deuteronomy 4.9-10, NIV).

By praying to close a school event, you (or the person you’re praying for who will do it) are helping the students see that there is a God and we can pray to God any time.  Praying in this public manner is a way to teach young people about God and how personal God is.  It can help the students see that there’s no part of our lives that we need to keep God away from, all with a simple prayer!

May these prayers give you confidence as you pray them, and may you grow closer to God as you grow you prayer life and faith.

Short Prayer to Close a School Event

Dear Creator God, I give you thanks for all that has happened tonight.  We are grateful for the efforts of the students and their teacher-advisors who worked so hard to make this happen for us all.

I ask your blessing on us all.  May we all return home safely this night, get good rest, and awaken to your love in the morning.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For The End of a School Athletic Game

Dear Lord, we pause now at the end of this game to give you praise and thanks.   We are grateful that we have the physical ability to play and compete in this sport, and we don’t take that for granted.

Thank you that no one was injured and we had a good, hard-fought competition with the other team.  We played with good sportsmanship and played well.  While we are excited we won, we know we could have just as easily lost, so we do not pray in a prideful way.

Bless the other team and their supporters as they safely return to their hometown.  Watch over us as well.  We ask that you grant us deep and renewing rest this night.  Help our sore muscles to recover.  Thank you again for the opportunity to coach these young athletes.  We give you all the glory, Lord.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer To Close a School Drama Activity

Lord God, thank you for a wonderful evening of acting by our talented students.  It was entertaining and well done and we give you the praise for their efforts.  Thank you for the director, stage designers, and the actors and actresses who have rehearsed for several weeks to produce this great play.

We give you praise for how artistry and beauty help to give us a sense of the transcendent. We celebrate creativity and the courage it takes to act in front of an audience.  Help these students and teachers receive their due congratulations with open hearts, as they are entitled to it for all they have done.

We ask you to help them all recover in the next couple of days and catch up on their sleep.  Guide us all home safely this evening with our hearts full of goodness for what we have seen and experienced on stage.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Father God, we pause now before we end this community meeting to give you thanks for guiding us through all we have done today.  We had an ambitious agenda to cover and we are thankful that we were able to make good use of the time we had.

Although there are a couple of issues that we need to revisit later, I give you thanks that we all were able to compromise as needed to get to several “yes” approvals on the projects and initiatives before us.

Thank you for the great representation from the community, with parents and business owners, and neighbors all coming together here today.

I am grateful that we have so many people who are interested and invested in the future of this school, its students, and what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal.  Thank you Lord, for directing our steps and giving us wisdom beyond ourselves.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer To Close a Parent-Teacher Conference

Dear God in heaven, thank you for the time I’ve had today with (parents’ names).  It was good to share with them how well their (son or daughter) is doing in my class.  Thank you for their love of their child and their investment in their future.
I pray you help them as they support (student’s name) in their educational pursuits.  Guide them as they encourage and listen to their child.

I thank you that I have the opportunity to teach and be a positive influence in (student’s name) life and in all of my students’ lives.  I am grateful for the blessing it is to teach young minds.  We give you thanks for this day and our time together.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer To Close a Teachers Meeting

Dear God, I want to thank you for every teacher here.  Without each of them, this school would not be what it is.  Thank you for all of them giving up their after-school time for this meeting so we could discuss some future actions that affect them all.

We are grateful that we have the chance to do some even better work in the future and for the blessing of the resources to do it.  I am proud and humbled to serve as the principal of this school. Help me to continue to lead in a servant manner.

Thank you for this day, that we were able to end on a good note.  Guide us safely home to our families.  I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer To Close a School Awards Event

Dear Lord, what a fantastic couple of hours we have experienced together here!  It was so exciting to hear about all of the achievements of so many students in this school.

We thank you for the long hours the teachers have put in to help the students work to their full potential.  We thank you for the parents who sacrifice so much to make sure their children have every opportunity to learn.  We thank you for the students who have worked hard and overcome challenges to earn the awards and scholarships we celebrated tonight.

May we all receive this good and encouraging news with humbleness and joy.  With all of the negativity we get thrown at us each day, we celebrate positive things happening in this school, and in the lives of our students.  We give you thanks and praise.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Prayer To Close a School Orientation Event

Dear God, I pray at the end of this orientation event with thankfulness.  We are grateful that these new students have been welcomed into a new environment and have a better sense of where they are supposed to go.

Thank you for the teachers who were here to meet their new students and start getting names and faces together.  Help these students know that they will be able to succeed here and learn here and be supported here.  We thank you for the start of a new school year tomorrow.  Help us start well!  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer To Close a Student Activity

God, I want to thank you for the good time we’ve had decorating the float for the parade.  I thank you for keeping all safe and no one got hurt–not even anyone hitting their finger with a hammer!

Thank you for our teacher sponsor (name), because she is so awesome to be here to help us.  Help us all drive home safely and may our float do well in the parade tomorrow.  Thank you that we could all get this done together.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Even though there may be some school settings where praying to close a school event or activity is not done or accepted, in other places it is.  If it is allowed, then please use these prayers to help you.

It is encouraging that when we pray we are already acknowledging that God’s presence is with us, just as Jesus reminds us:

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” ( Matthew 18.20, NIV).

Any time we can remember that God is present with us, we can be encouraged.  So, by praying to close out a school activity, whatever it may be, we help others encounter the Divine.  Have courage when you pray that you are doing God’s will and growing your faith in Christ.

We invite you to share what happened when you prayed, leave your own prayers or your own prayer requests, in the comments below.
