14 Purposeful Prayers For Women

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Being a woman is an honor. We have unique gifts, we are strong and resilient and we bring gentleness, love, and kindness. There are many women in the Bible we can look to that can help us grow in our womanhood.

Sarah (Genesis 12-23): Sarah is the wife of Abraham. She desperately wanted to have a child, but for many years she was barren. God made promises to Abraham that he would have many descendants, yet Sarah had no children. She probably felt like these promises were dependent on her having a child.

However, Sarah had to learn that these promises were dependent on God alone. His timing is perfect. Sarah teaches us to be women who hope in the Lord. She waited and waited and the Lord was faithful even when she wasn’t.

Leah (Genesis 29-35): Jacob wanted to marry Leah’s sister Rachel. Her father tricked Jacob and ended up marrying Rachel instead. Leah spent her life feeling rejected by her husband. However, the Lord saw her as His beloved. He blessed her with many children and from her descendants came King David and eventually Jesus, the Messiah. Even though Jacob didn’t choose her, God did.

We may find ourselves jealous of other women or wanting to be loved by a guy who doesn’t want us. However, Leah is an example that we all have a purpose that is uniquely ours and far greater than we could have ever imagined.

Deborah (Judges 4-5): Deborah was a wife, prophetess, and judge. She was another beautiful example of staying faithful to the Lord. She stands out as a woman of courage and honor. She led her people, but always pointed them back to the Lord.

As women, we should always be leading others back to God. Whether it’s our spouses, children, friends, or coworkers, everything we do should be a witness to God’s love and bring others closer to Him.

Hannah (1 Samuel 1-2): Like Sarah, Hannah also desperately wanted children. She promised God that if she was given a son that he would serve God faithfully. Hannah is a beautiful example of what it means to be a prayerful woman. She continually turned to the Lord. She poured out her deepest desires to Him. She gave Him her burdens and entrusted Him her heart.

As women, it’s easy to turn to our husbands or friends for advice. We should always turn to the Lord first. He yearns to speak with you and provide for you. You simply have to ask.

These are just a few examples of holy women in Scripture. I have given you 14 prayers for women. Feel free to customize them to your specific situation. Please leave prayer requests in the comments so we can pray with you!

Short Prayer For Women

Good and gracious God, please bless women all over the world. It is a beautiful gift to be a woman, but it doesn’t come without challenges. Please help all women persevere through these challenges so they can be the person God created them to be. May all women set this world ablaze with love for You. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Generous Woman

The book of Proverbs says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25, NIV). Please help me to be a generous woman with my time, talent, and treasure. Help me to detach myself from worldly things so that I give all that I can give more freely.

It’s easy for me to be selfish with my wealth. I fall into the evil mindset that I’ve worked hard so it’s MY money. However, that is so wrong. It’s Your money, Lord. Help me to remember this so that I can give all that is asked of me and more.

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you (Luke 6:38, NIV). In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Women In The Workplace

Lord, it is hard to be a woman in the workplace. There are biases and challenges to overcome just because of our gender. Women love their jobs. They are phenomenal at them too. They deserve to be treated with the same respect and opportunities as men.

Please help women to prosper in their jobs. Please provide opportunities for them to grow. Help each woman to be confident in the skills and talents that they have to thrive at their jobs and know that they can further your kingdom through their jobs.

Help each woman to be an instrument of bringing people to Your kingdom. Please help them to bring other employees closer to you. Part of being good at their job is evangelizing and that doesn’t always mean talking about you.

I pray that through each woman’s work she is glorifying you always. Help them to always show kindness, compassion, and joy. I hope each woman is showing her coworkers how to live life abundantly in You.

Women bring unique gifts to the workplace. Help each woman to use these special gifts to the best of their ability. Help each woman to rely on you, to listen to your voice, and to be attentive to your voice each day while they are at the workplace. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Merciful Woman

Lord, help all women to be abundant in mercy. Even though we don’t deserve it you’re always there showing us mercy and lifting us up. Although we don’t deserve your mercy, you still freely give it to us.

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:4-7, NIV).

Over and over again in the Scriptures, we see how Jesus showed compassion to those who committed such devastating sins. Our sins are no different than theirs. Please remind all women of that. They are not better than anyone else, so they must be merciful just as you are.

It’s not easy to be merciful. Please take the heart of every woman and replace it with yours. Give us the desire to be merciful. Give us joy, compassion, and love instead of resentment and turmoil. I know it will take time, but give each woman the desire to work so we can be more merciful. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For A Woman Going Through A Breakup/Divorce

Dear God, please lift up all women who are going through a breakup or a divorce. It’s not easy to end romantic relationships. It can cause self doubt and a deep questioning on who we are as a woman. Is there something wrong with me? Should I be someone different?

Help each woman to stay true to themselves. May they all know that they are a gift from God. If any woman needs to change after a (breakup/divorce) may it be only in regards to their relationship with you and identity as a woman.

May each woman see that this (breakup/divorce) is just a blip on the radar. She will find the person she is supposed to spend the rest of her life with eventually. Help each woman to use this time to grow in virtue and self-discipline. This relationship ended for specific reasons.

Wrap Your loving arms around each woman in this difficult situation. Help them to rest in your compassion, peace, and strength. May she always see that Your will is our peace. I pray her prayer life flourishes during this time of singleness and propels her to be a better disciple and future spouse. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Woman Who Puts God First

Dear God, Your Son says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12: 30-31, NIV).

If these are your greatest commandments then they are my biggest prayers for becoming a better woman. I want to love you above all else. Someone who puts You first treats others the way they deserve to be treated.

I am struggling to put you first right now. I know in my mind that you are most important, but when I am plagued with responsibilities and the needs of my family all day I forget that it is You who gives me the life to do these things.

Please help me to see that You are most important. I pray that you take away the distractions. I am a tired and weary woman at times. The demands of my life sometimes get me down and I don’t have the energy to focus on You. Change my heart. Give me the desire to be a holy woman who prays daily and fervently.

Help me to love others like myself. Your Son served the poor selflessly and that is something we should be doing here on earth. It is our mission as Christians to be Your face, hands, and feet to those we encounter daily. Help this mission to be at the forefront of my mind.

I know I can’t walk the path to heaven alone. If it is your will please place someone in my path to help me grow in my relationship with you. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A More Positive Woman

Lord, I have found myself having a really negative attitude lately. I believe others are tired of this behavior. I want to be a woman who encourages and lifts up those around me. I want others to see me as a source of joy and not grumpy and negative.

Help me to focus on the things that are going well throughout my day. Help me to see all the ways you are present in my life. When I want to be negative, change my negativity and turn it into a disposition of praise, peace, and joy. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Woman Of Noble Character

Glory to God in the highest! I want to be a woman of noble character. Proverbs 31:10-31 is a passage about what it means to be a woman of noble character.

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31: 26, NIV). May I be a woman who is attentive to the movements of Your voice. May I use this skill to make prudent and wise decisions, especially when it comes to my marriage. May I be a woman whose words are kind loving.

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks” (Proverbs 31: 17). Help me to be more determined and hardworking. Help me to succeed in whatever tasks I am working towards no matter if they are big or small.

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30, NIV). Help me to be a good woman in all the best ways. I know I will glow with beauty if I am in awe of You and desire to please You. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Good Mom

Lord, I feel like I’m failing. I’m trying to show my children gentleness, kindness, and love, but I keep falling short of your steadfast love. Please help me to push aside my frustrations and focus on each child like I am responding to You. This vocation is challenging and it can only be done through your strength. Please help me to be a better mother. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For A Woman With An Eating Disorder

God, please be with all women struggling with an eating disorder. This is a difficult illness and a pattern that can be hard to break. Please heal each woman emotionally and physically as they battle this illness.

Wrap your loving arms around each woman as they work to overcome this eating disorder. Help them to find the proper treatment for their situation. Help each woman to feel safe and loved by You and her family during this difficult time.

If someone is putting themselves through this painful behavior she must be struggling so much mentally, emotionally, and physically. I can’t imagine the pain and emptiness these women must be feeling. Please, heal these women, Lord. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Your Good Health For Women

Good and gracious God, please keep all women in good health. Each person has their own health concerns and I pray that you clear them up. You are a miracle worker so I know that if it is Your will you will heal each woman of her afflictions.

Please heal all women of not only her physical wounds, but her emotional and spiritual wounds as well. May women remember the words from Scripture, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3, NIV).

May all women turn to you, the ultimate healer, for every kind of healing that she needs. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer To Be A Helpful Woman

Lord, You command us to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31, NIV). If I am to live this out then I would like to be more helpful to everyone around me. Give me the grace to see when others need help. Help me to be more present and alert throughout the day so I can help others when needed.

I want to be Your face, hands, and feet for others. Help me to serve humbly, promptly, and gracefully. May I help make someone else’s load lighter. Help me to be joyful about all the tasks I can help with even if they are undesirable and especially if it is inconvenient for me.

Help me to be like the good Samaritan and not only help those that I love, but strangers or those I dislike. You helped everyone and it is my call to imitate you. Thank you for Your strength and goodness. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For Abused Women

O, God, my Savior. Please protect all women who are abused. This is a terrible and terrifying situation to be in. These women don’t deserve this type of pain.

Help these women to remember that they are daughters of the King. No matter what other people are telling them, they are beloved by You. They are worthy. They are chosen and completely loved by You.

They most likely feel the opposite of all of these things. They probably feel useless, worthless, and stupid, and hurt. When they feel this way help them to remember, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1b, NIV).

Please put someone in their life to help them to overcome their abuse and get out of the potentially dangerous situation. Please give these women the strength and protection they need to persevere through this abuse. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.

Prayer For A Woman Experiencing Post Partum Depression

God, I need sleep. I’m an emotional wreck. I’m almost always on the brink of an emotional breakdown. I can barely keep my eyes open. The lack of sleep is just hitting me like a train. How does anyone deal with this?

I feel so terrible for thinking this, but right now, I am not a fan of motherhood. I feel like I’m falling into a pit of despair when I’m supposed to be happy. I don’t understand why I feel this way when I should be thrilled that I have a sweet baby to snuggle.

So many women struggle with infertility, miscarriage, or infant loss. They would love to be complaining about sleepless nights. I feel selfish and inconsiderate for complaining about something that really is a privilege.

It’s a privilege to get up and (nurse/feed) my baby. It’s a privilege to rock them to sleep, to comfort them when they’re sick, to carry them around all day. I know it’s a privilege. I know it’s a great gift from You to have this amazing child, but it is so unbelievably hard.

Please help me to overcome this. I need your help to be the mother you want me to be. In your Name, I pray. Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Women have a special role in the world. In Scripture, we see that Jesus first revealed to the Samaritan woman at the well that he was the Messiah. When he rose from the dead it was Mary Magdalene who first saw Him.

God has always have and continues to honor women and give us an important role in the world. We are imperfect, but God uses our imperfections to fulfill His mission. We can only keep working, day in and day out, to grow in virtue and be the women that God created us to be. May we all follow God’s plan for our lives so we can set the world ablaze with His love!
