15 Supportive Prayers For Men

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Are you looking for a prayer to pray as a man?  Do you need direction in your prayers as a man?

I hear you and I understand that it can be hard to know what to pray for as a man. I need guidance and strength and so much more, but sometimes I don’t know what to ask God for as I pray.

These 15 honest prayers for men came out of that dilemma. While I couldn’t cover every possible scenario a man might face in his prayer life, I think that one of these prayers will be helpful to you. You can modify any of the prayers as you need to, in order to fit your particular circumstance.

Some are written for you to pray for yourself, and others are written as you pray for another man, like a son, or father, or a brother.

Since you are already here on this site, I invite you to also look at prayers for being a good husband, or any other hundreds of useful prayers on our site.

“Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference.” – Max Lucado

Now, let us move on to praying with God!

Short Prayer For A Man

Dear God, I am a man and I need help from you. I pray to you now because I believe you hear me. I am facing several things in my life that hit me as a man, not as a child or as a woman. I am asking you to show me what I need to do to deal with all of this. I can’t do it on my own, that is very clear. In the name of Jesus, my Strength, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Need Of Physical Healing

Dear Lord, I come to you today to pray for my brother (or friend, son, etc.) who is in need of physical healing. I know that you are the Great Physician, and I believe that you can heal him.

I pray that you would touch him with your healing power. I pray that you would remove the sickness from his body and restore him to health. I pray that you would give him the strength to endure his illness and to trust in your goodness.

I also pray for his family and friends who are also suffering during this time. I pray that you would give them comfort and peace. I pray that you would help them to trust in your plan for their lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For A Man Feeling Insecure

God, I can’t even believe I am praying this right now because it means I have to admit that I am weak. I am filled with so much insecurity right now. I can’t make a decision and I don’t feel confident in myself at all.

Feeling this way makes me turn inward, so I don’t interact with many people right now and keep to myself at work. All this isolation only makes me feel worse, more insecure.  I need to know that I am enough and only you can give me that truth.

Help me God, so I can know that I matter and I can be strong in you, at peace in you, accepting of myself through you. I pray this through the love of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Need Of Guidance

Dear Lord, I come to you today because I am in desperate need of guidance. I know that you are the Wise Counselor, and I believe that you can give me the wisdom I need to make decisions.

I pray that you would give me clear direction in my life. I ask that you would help me to know what you want me to do in this situation. I pray that you would give me the courage to follow your lead.

I’ll move forward however you lead, Lord, I just need the way to be clear. In the name of Jesus, I ask this, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Need Of Emotional Healing

Dear Father God, I am a mess right now. My feelings are all over the place so I ask you for emotional healing. I need you, by the touch of your Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to heal my heart and grant me peace.

Please remove the pain from my heart and restore me to wholeness. I pray that you would give me the strength to face my emotions and to heal from my past hurts. Grant all of this for the sake of your love, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Need of Strength

Dear Lord Jesus, I come to you today to pray for my father (or brother, friend, son) who is in need of strength.  I believe that you can give him the strength he needs to overcome his challenges.

I pray that you would give him the strength to resist temptation. I pray that you would give him the strength to forgive those who have hurt him. I pray that you would give him the strength to find hope in the midst of his pain.

He is facing a mighty challenge, but I believe you are the Almighty God who carries him, so lift him in his weakened state, by your strength, I pray. In the strong name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Need of Protection

Dear God in heaven, I need your divine protection. I feel like I am under attack by the enemy. There is confusion and doubt swirling all around me and I can’t think straight.

I plead protection by the word of my testimony and by the blood of Lord Jesus right now, which is truth found in your Word. Please wrap me in your protective love and give me peace and calmness in my heart and mind. Protect my family and friends as well, through the mighty power of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In Love

Dear Lord God, I want to pray for my son (or brother, nephew, friend) who is in love. I know that you are the source of all true love, and I believe that you can bring him and his loved one together.

I pray that you would bless their relationship. I pray that you would give them grace, joy, and peace. I ask that you would help them to overcome any obstacles that come their way, especially in their communication with one another.

I also pray for their families and friends who are also supportive of their relationship–let them be a help, not a hindrance to this relationship. I pray that you would bless them as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 20s

God, I like this time in my life and I pray that you help me enjoy it. I know there is much responsibility up ahead, but right now, it’s just me and my work. I pray that you will continue to enable me to do what I do well.

I want to grow in my work and be successful. I am in a relationship but I don’t know if she is the one who I will marry and I’m not sure I want to think about that right now.  I like having some autonomy in my life. Keep me focused on what’s ahead and how I can get there, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 30s

Dear Lord, I think I’m fully an adult now, since I have a marriage and a mortgage. Plus there is a child on the way too. A decade ago, I couldn’t even envision this scenario, but now that I’m in it, I feel like this is where I’m supposed to be.

But I do need help Lord, because all of this responsibility is a lot to carry along. I ask for strength to keep all of this in perspective. I lay my burdens down at your feet so I can have what it takes to make it through the day with grace. I ask this all in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 40s

Lord Jesus, I’m having a hard time embracing the changes that are going on right now. My kids are now teenagers and my eyesight is worsening and I think I might be stuck in my job for a while.  I don’t think I’m having a crisis but that’s a lot of transition to deal with.

I pray for wisdom as I have seen you move in my life over the last many years and I can trust that you will again. Help me to take a step back and re-frame what I am facing now. Help me to see clearly and not with impatience. You’ve brought me this far, Lord, so I ask that you continue to walk with me, through Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 50s

Lord, am I really now middle-aged? It seems like life has moved so quickly these past few years. I feel like I’m in the middle of a pendulum swing and I don’t know whether to hang on or hop off.

I’ve got a lot of good years in me, Lord, and I want to use them wisely, so I am praying for direction and guidance, and, a bit of courage. If I need to do something else, it will be hard for me to leave where I am comfortable. But I know you will be with me, whatever happens.  Please help me see what and where I am to be. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 60s

Father in heaven, I am about to hit retirement age, at least in my career field. I don’t feel like stopping doing work, but I would like to do something different. I am also noticing that I am not as quick to recover from aches and pains as I used to be.

I ask you for a sense of peace, Lord, as I navigate the changing of my body and purpose in life in the near future. I don’t want to just stop and sit on a couch. I want to remain active in body and mind, and so I pray for good health. I also ask for you to guide me in this new season of life. In the name of Christ, I pray, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 70s

Dear God, what a life I have lived and what a life I still have to live. It is a gracious blessing to be retired and only take on what I really want to do now.  I am so grateful to have decent health and be able to get around and have a daily purpose.

What a joy to see and engage with our grandkids and enjoy precious time with my wife. These really are golden years and I am thankful I can enjoy each one with the realization that each is a gift.  Thank you for the wonderful life you have given me and how you continue to provide for me in every way, Lord. I give you praise in Christ, Amen.

Prayer For A Man In His 80s

Lord God, I feel like I’m slowing down and things are becoming very clear. There is a special happiness in having such clarity and I give you thanks for allowing me to have a good mind and still be active as I can be.

I praise you and thank you for my children, and now grandchildren, and the blessings they have in their lives. I am hopeful to continue being a bright spot for them whenever they visit–I know they are for me! I wish I had had the peace I have now so much earlier in life. I used to get so worried about so many things, but with the advancing age, I learned that not much is all that important.

Thank you for the gift of life and the gift of each day I can enjoy.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Consider This

As Christians, we are called to pray for all people, including men. There are many different circumstances that men may find themselves in, and we can pray for them in a variety of ways. You can also pray for yourself, which is why most of the prayers above are written in the first person.

Although these are not firm parameters, it’s been my experience that men need prayer most often in one of the four following areas: guidance, strength, healing, and protection. I’d ask you to consider each of these, along with the Biblical wisdom, as you continue in your prayer journey.

Guidance

Sometimes, you may feel lost or confused about their direction in life. You may be struggling with making decisions, or feeling overwhelmed by the challenges you are facing. In these situations, you can pray for God to give guidance and wisdom.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1.5, ESV).

You can ask God to provide a clear sense of his will for your life. You can also pray that he will give you the strength to follow through in his leadership.

Strength

Are you facing difficult circumstances that require you to be strong? You might be struggling with addiction, or facing physical or emotional abuse. In these situations, you can pray for God to give strength to overcome your challenges.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him” (Psalm 28.7, KJV).

It’s okay to admit our weakness, for that is where God is strongest. It’s also okay to admit that you need help. Ask God to give you the strength to resist temptation, to forgive those who have hurt you, and find hope in the midst of your pain.

Protection

Still, other men may be in danger or in need of protection. They may be serving in the military, or they may be working in a dangerous job. In these situations, we can pray for God to protect them from harm. If you are in one of these types of situations, you definitely want to seek God in prayer!

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. . .Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil” (Psalm 23.1-4, NIV).

Pray that God will watch over you and keep you safe from harm. You can also pray that he will give you the courage to face your fears and to do what is right.

Healing

Finally, there are men who are sick or injured and need healing.  You could be in this situation.  Whether it’s you or another man you know, there may be suffering from a physical illness, or struggling with emotional or mental health issues. In these situations, you can pray for God to heal them, or pray for yourself–it’s okay to do that!

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven” (James 5.14-15, NIV).

You can pray that God will touch you with his healing power.  You can ask God for the strength to endure your illness and to trust in his goodness.

As you pray any of the prayers above, you can trust that God is listening and that he will answer your prayers in his perfect timing.

Prayer is a powerful weapon that we can use. When we pray, we are asking God to intervene and bring about his will. We can pray for guidance, strength, protection, healing, and any other need that we may have.
