My dad and husband recently went on a 9 day fishing trip together. It made my heart so happy that they have such a great relationship. I know part of that great relationship is because of their bond through You and the power of prayer. My dad is a great example of someone who always prays for their son-in-law.
When your daughter gets married it can be an emotional time. It was such a special moment for me for my dad to walk me down the aisle and dance with me at our reception. We danced to the song ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ by Bette Midler because he has been such a pillar of support and key to my success over the years.
I know it was difficult for my dad to let go and become the second most important guy in my life. However, he is a man of great faith and believed what the Scriptures proclaim,
“‘For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh?’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate” (Matthew 19:5-6, NASB).
Marriage is a beautiful thing. Your son-in-law now has an important job to lead your daughter (and their children) closer to You. It’s a huge gift to him if you pray for him on this endeavor.

Prayer For Keeping A Good Connection With Your Son-In-Law
Lord, thank you for the gift of my son-in-law, (name). I need your help to keep a good connection with him. If only he knew how special he was to me. He is making my daughter happy so I am forever grateful to him. I want to have a close relationship with him, but don’t want to be overbearing either.
I am so busy with my job and wife that I occasionally forget to reach out to my son-in-law. I know he has important and stressful things going on in his life so I need to keep him at the forefront of my mind more often. I know it means a lot to me when he reaches out to me so I need to return the favor and work harder to maintain our connection.

Healing Prayer For Your Son-In-Law
Good and gracious God, please keep my son-in-law in good health. I know he has been battling a variety of health concerns and I pray that you clear them up. You are a miracle worker so I know that if it is Your will you will heal (name) of his afflictions.
Please heal (Name) of not only his physical wounds, but his emotional and spiritual wounds as well. May (Name) remember the words from Scripture, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3, NIV).
May my son-in-law turn to you, the ultimate healer, for every kind of healing that he needs, and may my daughter support him and care for him along the way. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Your Son-In-Law To Put God First
Dear God, Your Son says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12: 30-31, NIV).
If these are your greatest commandments then they are my biggest prayers for my son-in-law. I hope (Name) loves you above all else. If (Name) is struggling to put you first right now I pray that you take away the distractions. Give him the desire to pray daily and fervently. May my daughter be supportive of his spiritual life and help him thrive in this area.
I also pray (Name) loves others as himself. Your Son served the poor selflessly and that is something we should be doing here on earth. It is our mission as Christians to be Your face, hands, and feet to those we encounter daily. I hope this mission is at the forefront of his mind.
If (Name) is struggling in either of these areas please place someone in his path to help him grow. I would like it to be me, but I don’t want to seem like an overbearing father-in-law. Please give me your wisdom on how to proceed. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For A Son-In-Law Who Has Turned From God
Lord, my son-in-law has turned away from You. He no longer believes in You and I am very concerned. He used to love going to church and talking about Bible stories. Now he won’t even attend church with his family anymore. Please penetrate his heart and show him that he is lost without you.
I worry about what will happen to him if he continues to stray from you. I know this is putting immense strain on my daughter. Their marriage is at risk and that breaks my heart. It’s horrible to see your child in pain. I’m disappointed in my son-in-law. I don’t know how this happened, but he desperately needs to change.
He needs to be a spiritual leader for their family. It’s his responsibility to help raise his children to know and love You. Please change his heart.
Our happiness and joy can only be sustained through You. I take comfort in knowing that You will always pursue him. I pray his heart will soften and he will desire to have a relationship with You again.
I’m not sure if there is anything else I can do but pray. I don’t want to ruin our relationship, but I don’t want to sit by idly either. When I speak with him may I be attentive to your voice and your wisdom so I know what to say and how to approach the subject.
If I am not the person to lead him back to You please put someone in his path who will do so. I love him so much Lord and long for him to experience Your everlasting joy in heaven. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For A Son-In-Law During Hard Times
Lord, my son-in-law is going through a difficult time right now. Things are piling up on him and I know he is struggling even though he doesn’t want to show it. He is such an amazing person. He is a true light in so much darkness in this world. Please don’t let the darkness get to him too.
Help him to persevere in all his endeavors. When my son-in-law is struggling help him and remember to “cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22, NIV).
We can fill ourselves with worldly things, but nothing will ever sustain us as You do. No matter how difficult things are right now for (name) please help him to have hope in You. Help (name) to deal with his stress in healthy ways and if they need help, give him the courage and strength to ask for help. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Son-In-Law To Grow In Virtue
God, there are many virtues you want us to model as Christians. The Scriptures tell us that compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience are just a few of the characteristics we should embody as Christians (Colossians 3:12, NIV).
I fervently pray that my son-in-law strives to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. When he sees those less fortunate than he may he remembers to treat them with the love of Christ. May all the words that come from his lips be spoken with kindness, gentleness, and love.
May (name) try not to boast about his accomplishments. May (name) strive to recognize Your power and know that he can do nothing without You. May (name) have a heart of humility. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
Your son-in-law has an important role in your family. He is the new spiritual leader of your daughter. He is undertaking a big responsibility. He needs all the prayers he can get as he embarks on this journey.
Sometimes navigating a relationship with your son-in-law can be tricky whether you’re the mother or father. You don’t want to overstep. Always know that the Lord will guide you and give you the wisdom you need. May your relationship with your son-in-law be strong and holy!
