Prayers For Financial Freedom

Last Updated on November 25, 2023 by Emma

Financial freedom seems to be a desired goal for many people. Praying for financial freedom is something that comes from my lips often.

The Bible speaks about money often. And it speaks about our freedom as well. So how do we pray for such a thing as financial freedom?

I am going to attempt to guide you in these prayers based on scripture. It is my hope that scripture will help guide your heart and mine on this topic.

Finances often reveal a deeper look at our hearts. These prayers are not magic sayings that will guarantee our financial freedom. Rather they are cries to God who cares about us and I hope they will draw us closer to God.

These prayers will first help us identify if our heart is in the right place in asking for financial freedom. We do not want to ask out of greed

And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15 ESV)

It is hard to know sometimes what our motives are because it relates back to the heart. Our world prizes financial success and so it’s hard to know if we are seeking after this idea or after God when we ask for Financial Freedom.

We want to join you in prayer especially, in this area of praying for financial freedom. Please comment below so we can join with you.

Short Prayer For Financial Freedom

God, I want to be financially free. Not for my own security or status but instead for your glory. I want to use my financial freedom not to be able to save more or build up things on this earth but to be free to be more generous and provide for my family better.

God, I desire to be financially free because you have set me free from my sin. I’ve tasted the freedom to be able to do your will and I love it! I want to do it more fully without the restraining effects of being held down by financial issues.

Lord, set me free from this area of my life, Amen.

Prayer For God To Search My Heart While I Seek Financial Freedom

God, You are good, I need your help.

I know it is not bad to be wise about my money. I have not always been good about how I spend money and now I am in debt. I desire financial freedom.

God, I ask that you search my heart though. I do not want to ask this prayer if it is to promote myself, to bolster my pride, or some sort of personal dream. Help me to evaluate the motives behind this prayer.

Father, financial independence looks so appealing because it would give me a sense of being in control. But I want to trust in you for all things and to know your control in my life.

God, if my motives are for my persona gain I know that financial freedom will only make me more prone to further sinning in this area. If this is the case will you reveal this to me? Help me to find genuine joy and gratitude in you alone.

Search my heart as I seek to be financially free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayers To Help Store Up Eternal Treasures

God, help me to fall in love with Your kingdom above all else. I want to be financially free but more than that I want to store up treasures in Heaven.

Help me to seek financial freedom not for my own satisfaction but rather to be motivated by “treasures in heaven” as Christ describes it (Matthew 6:20 ESV).

God, help me to see that every moment truly matters and the pursuit of earthly riches is meaningless. Help me to see that financial freedom can be good to further your kingdom but it is not necessary.

God, thank you for revealing to me that what is necessary is that I have a heart for your kingdom. This is where I will find true freedom.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Financial Freedom For Families

God, I pray that you give the _________ (family’s name) family financial freedom. This family is part of the Body of Christ and they are struggling to be financially free.

Father, you know the debt that they are in and the efforts they have tried to get out of this debt. I pray that you see their heart and that they are seeking after you and not their own wealth.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

Father, I pray for your mighty hand to provide for them as they wait to be financially free and I pray that you allow this freedom to come quickly. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Financial Independence

Mighty God, You are awesome in all your works. I pray today for financial independence. It has been a long time since I felt like I could work enough to provide independently.

I have become humble in accepting help from family, friends, and neighbors. You have shown me that I can fully rely on you to provide for all my needs.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)

Now I would like to be financially independent. I know I will never be independent from you, but I’m asking that you help me so I do not have to depend on others to financially help me.

I thank you for the trials that have caused me to be in this situation because they have allowed me to grow in my faith. However, I’m asking now that you allow me to be financially independent. In Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer For Financial Freedom From Debt

Dear Heavenly Father, You are a great provider. You have always allowed me to have what I need. Forgive me for the areas where I have not always been wise with my money. I am working now on getting out of debt and it is so slow.

God, I recognize that I am free because of being your child, and praise you for the redeeming work you have done in my life. I experienced freedom through this that has changed my life.  I love being able to confidently live out my life in a way that glorifies you. However, this debt is lingering.

The Proverb is true it feels like I am a slave to this debt.

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. (Proverbs 22:7 ESV)

I ask that you free me from this debt. Give me financial freedom from this debt that lingers over me. Not so I can feel more secure or comfortable. Not so I can feel powerful or approved by my peers but so that I can turn around and live a generous life that is honoring to you.

Lord, I ask that you free me from this debt. Lord, I ask that you do it in a mighty way. I ask that you give me peace and patience as I work on paying it off, but if it is pleasing to you I ask that you do it quickly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Financial Freedom By A Certain Date

Dear Heavenly Father, I seek you and your wisdom in this area of becoming financially free. I desire to have financial freedom by ___________ (date).

God, I believe that if I was financially free by this date I would be able to go on to use my money in a way that honors you. I would be able to go beyond just giving to my church and be able to help those in need. I would be able to support missionaries spreading the Gospel.

God, if I was financially free by this date I would be able to better support my family as they grow.

Father, protect me from becoming greedy but I ask that you help me to accomplish being financially free by this date. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Financial Freedom Apart From A Certain Person

Dear Father, I have been dependent on ____________ (name of person) for a long time now. They helped me when I was young and through a messy situation.

I now would love to become financially free apart from their help. Search my heart and show me where I can grow in the way I use money.

Father, help me to find a job and a desire to work hard so I can be financially free from _________.

I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Thoughts

Being financially free can be a desire of many hearts. However, if we only want financial freedom for our own good we have missed the point.

God wants us to seek first after His kingdom and wants to be close to us. Being free of financial bondage can allow us to do this but it is not necessary. However, God wants to hear from us and so we cry out in prayer for things like financial freedom.

We would love to pray with you during this time. Please comment below so we can join with you in prayer.
