When you own a home, whether it’s a new home or old, repairs sometimes feel constant. Unfortunately, when dealing with tangible materials, repairs are inevitable! Home repairs can be stressful for a variety of reasons. Finances and time are probably two of the biggest stressors.
My sister recently needed her back deck redone because it was moldy. She hired someone and days, turned to weeks, then to months, as they waited for the company to repair their deck. One day the man didn’t show up to work and he stopped responding to their calls.
She called the company they hired the man through and they said they fired him weeks ago. It was a terrible situation because they had paid him a down payment. He left with their money and no deck. Almost a year later her deck is finally almost finished being repaired.
I say all this not to scare you, but as an invitation to trust God during your own home repairs. Challenging things will probably happen during your own home repairs, whether it’s increased cost, delayed time, etc. It probably won’t go according to plan!
When these things inevitably happen here are a few quick verses to draw upon:
- “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” (Psalm 28:7, NIV).
- “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans” (Psalm 118:8, NIV).

Prayer for Roof Repairs
Dear God, we had a terrible storm last night and now we have a leak in our kitchen. I am frustrated and overwhelmed with the process of getting a roof fixed. First, help me to remember to be grateful that we at least have a home, even if it needs to be fixed. That’s not something everyone has.
I pray for the company who will be working on our roof. First, please give me the wisdom to choose the best company. I hope to find a company that is reliable, affordable, full of integrity, and experience. Please give them the knowledge to know how to properly fix my roof. Please keep them safe as they do the work on my roof. Roof work can be dangerous so please protect them and keep the weather good for them to get the work done quickly.
Lord, this really wasn’t in the budget. Roof repairs can be very expensive. Please provide us a way to pay for this large expense. The Scriptures say, “my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, NIV). I trust you will provide. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Plumbing Repairs
Lord, my home is having plumbing issues. I pray that you bless the pipes in my home. Please let this just be a minor issue. I hope the damage that this issue has caused is small scale and that it can be fixed easily.
Please bless the hands of the plumber who is going to work on it with me. I pray he/she can work quickly and diligently. Please let them get to my house soon so I don’t have to worry about this too long. I trust You will provide, O Lord. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Electrical Repairs
Holy God, I am having electrical issues at my home. You don’t realize how much you rely on light and internet until you don’t have it. How selfish I feel for complaining about this inconvenience. Help me to see this as an opportunity to grow in virtue and holiness.
Please bless and protect the electrician who will be working with me. I am grateful for their expertise! I pray he/she can work quickly and diligently. Please let them get to my house soon so I don’t have to worry about this too long. I trust You will provide, O Lord. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Appliance Repairs
Lord, our (name of appliance) isn’t working properly. It’s frustrating when something like this breaks because it’s something we use every day. This is totally a first world problem and not something I should be so angry about. It’s funny how the little things we are so ungrateful usually can become such massive inconveniences when they are broken.
But, really, why is it so hard to get someone to come out to fix your appliance?! It’s difficult to know who to call and who has openings soon enough. Sometimes it’s overwhelming just thinking about having to make the phone calls to get someone out to our house. I want the job done right because I really don’t want to go buy a new (name of appliance).
Lord, please give me the guidance to choose the best company to fix this. There’s a lot of options. I just need someone who is going to get the job done and not over charge me. If you know someone who needs work please put them in my path so I can hire them. I pray the worker is a Christian so I know they will be honest and hard working.
Ultimately, I have not planned for this financially. I have a savings, so I know I can pay for it, but I am very selfish. Forgive my selfishness, O God, because I really wanted to buy a new bike and not an appliance. Please help the cost be low so that maybe I can fix the appliance and still get the bike this year.
I know this is an invitation to trust in you. You are so good my God. All I really need is you. Not a bike, and not an appliance. I know thy will, will be done. In Your Name I pray. Amen.
Prayer for Deck Repairs
Lord, my deck is really looking unsafe. It needs to be redone as it’s getting close to summer and we’d like to spend time as a family outdoors. We look forward to making memories and glorifying you out on that deck, but right now it’s a borderline hazard.
Help me to know if this is the right time to make this repair. It could probably last another summer, but I’m just worried about one of the kids or their friends getting hurt on it. The repairs will take time and then I will either need to hire someone else to repaint it or do that myself.
If you feel like it’s the right time then please put the person in my path who can fix it. I need someone who is reliable and trustworthy. Please lead me to a partnership with someone who will help make this deck a space that is glorifying to You. I also want to support a good small business. I believe in Your Divine Providence and know you will connect me with the right person if it is the right time.
No matter what I just pray that our deck and our entire home is a space that welcomes you. I pray our guests will know that you are present in our home, that they will know they are welcomed and loved from the moment they step in. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer to Finish Home Repairs
Good and gracious God. We have had ongoing home repairs. It seems to be never ending. Please just help it to finish up quickly. I’m so thankful for the people who have diligently been working on our home, but I am ready to have my privacy back!
Please protect our home upon the finish of these repairs. I hope we don’t have any new reasons to call a repairman anytime soon! Thank you for your guiding hand through it all and for giving us the resources to pay for these repairs. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
Most people aren’t thrilled when something in their home breaks down. In some cases, needing repairs in your home can be just as problematic as needing repairs on your vehicle.
It’s an inconvenience to call someone or, if you’re handy, fix it yourself. However, it’s important to remember that your home is just your earthly dwelling. It’s a place for you to glorify God, but it’s not your ultimate dwelling place. We will hopefully “dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6, NIV).
So while you are in your earthly dwelling place and your roof begins to leak, your brand new laundry machine stops working, or your garbage disposal jams, take a deep breath, and pray “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
