6 Frustration-Lessening Prayers for Plumbing Problems

You can pray about your plumbing problems, for there’s nothing outside of God’s scope of caring for you and your life.

We don’t really think about the plumbing and pipes and toilets in our home until something goes wrong.  But now, something has gone awry.  Water and waste aren’t going where they need to go.  What can you do?

Of course, you may be able to fix it yourself, or you may have to call a plumber.  Did you know you can also pray about the situation?  You may think that a plumbing problem isn’t important enough to take to God in prayer.

Plumbing problems are the most common household repair (and one of the most stressful) so you’re certainly not alone with this issue.

And remember that God says to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5.7, NIV).  Take comfort that God truly does care about everything in your life–nothing is too big, or too small for God.

Whether it’s a home that was recently built or one you’ve lived in for years plumbing problems are always inconvenient and rarely easy to handle quickly..  A plumbing malfunction typically requires finding a plumber, scheduling an appointment, and waiting for the repair to occur.  This is disruptive to your schedule yet it has to be attended to in the moment.

You can’t really put off a plumbing problem–it captures your immediate attention and jumps to the top of the to-do list.

These situations may create worry or stress or frustration.  Plumbing problems can cause anxiety because we never really know how much it’s going to cost until it actually gets fixed by the plumber.

We invite you to rest in the biblical truth, “therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6.34, NIV).

The six prayers below can serve as a starting point for you to begin praying.  You can, of course, modify each prayer to your specific plumbing problem.  As you pray, your own requests may come to mind, so we encourage you to share them in the comments below.

A Short Prayer for a Plumbing Problem

Dear God in heaven, I have plumbing issues in my house and I don’t really have time to deal with it today.  I ask for patience as I communicate with the plumber about the issue.

I ask for provision to pay for this, because this was completely unexpected and not in our budget.  I pray for peace in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for a Clogged Sink

Lord, my sink is clogged and no water will go down.  I can’t see the clog, even with a flashlight and it is frustrating.  I don’t have any liquid product to unclog or loosen the clog here in the house.

So, now I have to go to the store and get that, and come back and pour it down the sink and wait for it to do what it does.  I don’t have time for this today, God!

I feel naive and silly because I don’t even know enough to handle this plumbing problem.  The pipe is right there under the sink but I don’t know how to take it apart without creating a bigger problem.

Lord, please help me.  I need to your peace to calm my mind down.  I need patience as I deal with this.  I know it’s not a life or death situation, but in this moment it’s the highest priority of my day.  I turn to you for strength and perspective.

Help me see, Lord, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for an Overflowing Toilet

Oh my God!  I was downstairs and heard water running, so I ran upstairs to the bathroom and the toilet is overflowing and water is everywhere.  I need help!

I turned the water spigot off, so the water has stopped but there is still an inch or more of water all over my bathroom.  I really did not need this kind of problem today, Lord.  I can soak up the water, hopefully, with every towel in the house, but then I’ve got all that laundry to do.

Now I can’t use the toilet, have a massive pile of soggy towels and the plumber said he couldn’t be here for another four hours.  Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, please grant me your peace right now.  I am so stressed but I’m praying to you because I know you hear me.

I hope this hasn’t ruined the floor in the bathroom, God.  We really can’t afford a huge expense, Lord.  I ask for your provision because I don’t know how we will pay for all of this.  God help us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for a Backed Up Septic Tank

Jesus, hear my prayer!  I went out into the back yard and there’s a big puddle of water out in the grass that smells terrible.  I’m afraid it means the septic tank has backed up.

God, give me guidance because I’ve got to locate a company that makes emergency calls and can come out today. Give me patience because I’ve got to keep the kids out of the backyard until this is fixed.  Please bless us with the finances to pay for this whole thing.

I’m thankful I can pray to you about anything, Lord.  I just never imagined I’d be praying to you about my septic tank.  I don’t want this to burden me down so I bring this very particular burden to you in prayer.  I believe you will give me peace and rest.

I lift this plumbing problem to you, O God, believing that it matters to you and trusting in your care for me.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Leaky Pipes

Well, Lord, I got a surprise this morning.  Our water bill has been noticeably higher this month than last but we didn’t know why.  Luckily our city water department came out and told us it appeared to be a leak in the pipes.

So, I took a look and saw some water in the crawl space.  I called a plumber.  He was able to come out today, so for that I am grateful, God.  He quickly diagnosed the source of the water.

We have leaky pipes in several places underneath the house.  And it all has to be replaced, and soon.

Lord Jesus, this is stressing me out right now.  We have no budget at all to pay for this.  But we can’t put it off or just ignore it.  The plumber told us that if we don’t fix it soon, it could lead to much greater plumbing problems and cause tremendous damage to our home.

I’m praying to you, Lord, because I don’t know what else to do.  I have nowhere else to turn to except you.  You are big enough to handle this situation.  You hear my prayer through Jesus Christ and for that I praise you in his name, Amen.

A Prayer for the Plumber Fixing the Problem

God, I thank you that our plumber (name) was able to come out so quickly.  Thank you for his expertise and training that allows him to address the problem and begin to fix it.  Thank you that he was able to come to our house today so we didn’t have to wait until tomorrow.

He said he could handle the plumbing problem in about an hour or so, so that was good to hear.  I pray you give him guidance and a keen eye as he works so the situation is completely taken care of when he departs.

Thank you, God, that his services are affordable and we can cover this financially.  Bless (name) today and in his future business as he uses his skills to serve others in his vocation.  I ask this in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.

Final Thoughts

No one likes plumbing problems, but that doesn’t mean we have to let them weigh us down with worry or frustration.  We can pray.  We can trust God to help us deal with something as mundane as a clogged sink or overflowing toilet.

We don’t have to feel guilty that we’re “bothering” God with something so ordinary.  We don’t have to succumb to the false thought that “God’s got bigger problems in the world to deal with than my measly plumbing problem.”

While a plumbing problem can be troublesome, we can rest in the knowledge that God will help us and give us peace.  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16.33, NIV).

Whatever the situation you’re facing right now, be it major or minor, you can be sure that you can pray about it and that God hears your prayer.  So, pray!

We hope these prayers have been helpful to you and have given you a measure of peace in the midst of a stress-filled day. Please share them with your friends or family so they can also be calmed by praying specifically.  We invite you to share your personal prayer requests in the comments section below this article.
