Dear God, I have to move away from where I’ve been living and while I’m excited about it, I also don’t want to leave where I know people and have lived for a few years. Lord Jesus, I am leaving home soon to go off to college. I am scared a bit, but also know I need to go. I have graduated high school and going to college is the next step in my life of growing up.
It’s a whole new place and environment and I don’t really know anyone there. Help me to make some connections with people. I hope and pray I can find a few people to become friends with and enjoy college with these next few years.
I need strength and confidence I don’t have at the moment so fill me with your Spirit of power and love and trust. I’m already missing my family and I haven’t even left yet. Help me not get overly homesick. I pray this prayer, trusting in the grace and love of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for Moving Away After Divorce
God, I am off to a new place to live, as my marriage has ended. I am devastated but it’s best if my wife, I mean my ex-wife stays in the house with the kids so they have stability. I already miss them.
I found an apartment close by so I can be involved in my children’s lives as much as possible. Help me to deal with the logistics of all this because I am still in a bit of a daze. I have to learn to live on my own again, now that I’m single. Protect my path and guide me in this new way. Please keep my new home safe when I am away.

Dear Father God, our family is moving away from a town where we’ve lived for most of our lives together. Circumstances are such that we cannot stay where we are, but have to move to another town, and another state.
There are lots of memories here, so help us carry them with us. Please go ahead of us to our new place, our new home, and prepare the way for us. Open the way for us to establish new friends and new connections. Help us make that house our new home.
I don’t know how we’ll stay in touch deeply with all the people we know and love here, simply because of distance. We trust you to help sort all of that out, so that the friendships that need to remain, will remain. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Moving Away as a Military Family
God in heaven, I have another deployment and that means another move for my family. I’m grateful the military helps us try to make these frequent moves as seamless as possible, but it’s getting harder and harder to do these moves the older my children get.
I pray you protect them from any bitterness from having to uproot and leave friends they just made. I pray that their sense of safety and routine are not damaged in the midst of all this chaos. I pray for all of us to make this move with grace. I also ask for a longer posting this time so we can have some sense of stability for a good season of life.

Prayer for Moving Away as a Clergy Family
Dear God, my time here at this church has ended and we will be setting off to another church soon. I am grateful for the several years we were able to stay here and enjoy good ministry with these wonderful followers of Jesus Christ.
I’m thankful my children were able to stay in one place long enough to graduate from the same school they started with and for the friendships they made. It hadn’t always been that way in their lives. May they take the good memories with them as we move.

Prayer for Moving Away From My Parents
Father God, it’s time for me to move away from my parents as I move to a new place to be near my fiance` and for my new job.
There are a lot of life changes happening in a short time and I don’t want to become overwhelmed. Help me digest all that is happening without freaking out. I wish I could always be near my parents but for right now, I have to go where I’m going. Help them understand and accept all of this.
Help them see that they raised me to be confident and independent and this is part of what they have given to me in life. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for Moving Away Because of a Job
God, you have provided for me with a new job! I am so happy to have a solid offer and that I start in a few weeks. At the same time, I’m a little sad because I have to move away for this job. I’ve made some good friends here in this city. I don’t want to lose those friendships, but it will be hard to keep up just on social media and with phone calls and texts.
Help me to find new friends as well in my new place. I pray for my new boss and all of my co-workers whom I don’t even know yet. I want this to be a good move and a good step forward for me in my life. I trust in you as I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Final Thoughts
Moving away from a place where you have lived can involve a lot of emotions, all at once. There’s excitement about a new place, yet sadness about leaving familiarity and comfort. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all you have to do to move.
I invite you to think of this circumstance as an opportunity to place even more trust in God. Let this be a chance for you to live in the present moment, as Scripture reminds us to not look too far ahead.
“Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” James 4.13-14, NIV).
