7 Thankful Prayers For My Wife

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Want to give thanks for your wife?  Need a prayer of gratitude concerning your wife?

These seven prayers of thankfulness will help you pray to God about your wife through a variety of situations.  While there are only seven prayers listed here, you may think of other prayers you could pray about your spouse.  As with any prayer you find on this site, you are welcome to modify the wording to suit your specific situation.  The prayers here are a mere starting point in your prayer journey with God.

You’re married and you have a wife.  Have you told God lately how thankful you are for her?  The wisdom of Proverbs reminds us:

A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life” (Proverbs 31.10-12, NIV).

In any marriage, it can be easy to take your spouse for granted, but you don’t want to do that, do you?  It’s easy to settle into a routine of getting up, going to work, coming home, having dinner, go to bed.  A strong marriage, a thriving marriage takes work and prayer is a vital key to marriage.  It’s been said that couples that pray together tend to stay together.

Why not start by praying for your wife?  You may even want to write a list of things about your wife for which you are thankful.  You can use that as a beginning point for your prayers.  Thankfulness comes from a place of love for your wife.  If you were to focus your attention, you could easily echo the Apostle Paul’s words for yourself as a strong encouragement:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her  to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,  and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.  In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.  After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body” (Ephesians 5.25-30, NIV).

Thanking God for your wife in prayer is something you can do every day.  Be grateful for your wife’s love and know that things aren’t always so easy.  Attach your prayer to some aspect of your day that is regular.  For instance, as you get your morning coffee, you can pray gratitude for her.  By linking your prayer to some routine part of your day, you create a habit.  What can be more positive than creating a habit of praying for your spouse?

Short Prayer of Thanks For My Wife

Dear Lord, I am so thankful for my wife.  She is a gift to me from you.  I’m not perfect and neither is she but we are perfect for each other, that’s for sure.  I love how she remembers little things that are encouraging from our times together.  I love how her cheeks dimple when she grins.  I can’t imagine a life without her in it, so I give my gratitude to you for my wife, O God.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My New Wife

Dear Jesus, I just got married recently and I am so thankful for my new wife.  I was single for so long and then we met and it has been an amazing journey together ever since then.  I still can’t believe I’m married to her and we are beginning a new life together each day.

I pray that the foundation we lay in these early years provide the strength we’ll need in the future.  I thank you, O God, for my wife.  I thank you for her energy and focus.  Help me to love her fully and be worthy of her love for me.  I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My Wife Going Back to Work

Dear God, I pray for my wife (name).  She took some time off from the paid workforce, but is now returning to work in her field.  I give you thanks that you opened the doors for her to return to the career for which she trained.  I thank you for the good interviews she had and for the company hiring her.

I pray for her transition back into the workforce to go smoothly.  She is so happy to begin doing what she is so good at and to get paid for it.  I’m so proud of her, Lord and I thank you for her skills and gifting to do what she does.  Thank you for making this happen in her life, Lord.  In the strong name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My Wife Retiring From Her Job

Lord, my wife is going to be retiring from her job in a couple of months.  I thank you for how you’ve used her in her company to produce good results and be an encouragement to every person she came in contact with there.

I pray for the transition out of working full time for her.  I thank you for the long and fruitful career she has had in a field she loved.  Help her to make the change with grace and dignity.  Help me adjust to having her at home and not in the office each day.  Thank you for the provision you’ve given to us through her employment and raises she’s received.

I pray this prayer of thankfulness for my wife in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My Wife Becoming a Mother

God, we’re having a baby soon!  My wife just let me know that she is pregnant and I am so happy!  Thank you for my wife who has longed to become a mother–and now she is!

I ask that you help this baby grow within her healthily.  I pray for her mental and physical strength as she prepares to take on a new role and identity as a mother, and not just a wife.  I pray myself for the same reason.  Work within us, Lord, to keep our love for each other strong.  I’ve heard that the best gift we can give our children is a strong marriage, so help us do just that.

I pray this prayer of gratitude for my now-pregnant wife in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My Wife Recovering From Illness

Dear God in heaven, my wife has been very sick for several weeks.  Her doctor said she has come through the worst of it and is now in the recovery stage.  I pray for her complete healing in every part of her body and immune system.

I thank you that she did not die from this illness, as she could have if hadn’t caught it in time.  I thank you for her patience as we waited for the medicine to do its job in her body.  I thank you for her outlook and sense of calmness in the midst of it all.  Thank you for saving my wife, God!

I was so scared for a few days.  I love my wife and am so grateful she is in my life, and I am in hers.  I pray for healing and full recovery, in the healing name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer of Thanks For My Wife On Our Anniversary

Dear Lord, what an amazing thing to realize my wife and I are soon celebrating our (number) wedding anniversary.  I can recall on our wedding day as we talked about the future and what we wanted to happen.

It’s been a bit different than we talked about, but it has been a wonderful adventure together so far.  I am thankful for my wife saying yes to my proposal those years ago.  I am thankful for how her love has made me a better man.  Help me to love her more now than we were married.

As we celebrate this anniversary, may it be a time of joy and looking back at where we’ve come.  But also let it be a time of looking forward, with gratitude, for how you will grow us together even more for the next anniversary.

I pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Closing Thoughts

Getting married is a great and wonderful aspect of life to celebrate, which we do at weddings.  But, what about after the ceremony and dinner are over?  You’re back from the honeymoon and now you’re actually living the married life with your wife. The wife that you’ve likely asked God to meet for years.

Regardless of how long you’ve been married, don’t you always want to have the heart posture of gratitude for your wife?

“May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth” (Proverbs 5.18, NIV).

One simple way to rejoice in your wife is to pray for her regularly.  Prayers of thanks, prayers of safety and guidance, prayers of healing and provision, are all prayers you can pray regarding your bride.  Let the love you have for your spouse be centered in prayer to God for her.  Use these prayers as a reminder to give thanks for your wife!

You may have your own personal prayer requests, which we invite you to share in the comments section below.
