I had 3 pregnancies in 3.5 years so I’m no stranger to the awful feeling of constant nausea. There’s a variety of reasons for nausea besides pregnancy, including chemotherapy, viruses, motion sickness, or even anxiety. It’s important to ask for healing, strength, and perseverance when experiencing nausea.
It can seem silly to ask for help when you feel sick, but the Lord never tires of helping us.
“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise” (Jeremiah 17:14, NIV).
We know the great healing power of the Lord. He doesn’t always answer our prayers the way we want Him to, but we know we must ask to be healed. He has infinite power and we must praise Him when we are healed, but more importantly when we are sick.
I have given you 8 prayers for nausea. I have written them in first person, but feel free to customize them to your specific situation. Please leave prayer requests in the comments so we can pray with you!
Short Prayer For Nausea
Lord, this nausea is borderline unbearable. I feel awful and I just want this gross feeling to be gone from me. Please help me Lord to get through this day with Your strength. I can only do it with Your help and maybe some medicine. Help me to give myself some grace and rest in You. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Pregnancy
My God, I’m not sure why this is called morning sickness because nausea comes and goes throughout the day. It is difficult to accomplish the tasks that I need to throughout the day because of how awful I feel.
I can barely eat but have so much to do. Help me to know that it’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to have a messy house or to cancel plans. With your help, I have new life within me. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV).
You have great plans for this baby and this nausea is just a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things. In times of intense nausea help me to remember that I am doing this for you and my unborn baby.
Please help this nausea to subside quickly. Help me to find something that will work to help nausea go away. Help me to stay positive as I grow this human and remember that this is only a small sacrifice compared to that of your Son. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Chemotherapy
Lord, cancer is not something anyone wants to experience. Chemotherapy has been one of the most challenging parts of this experience. It has been tough on my body and the nausea is difficult to work through. I am weak and get sucked into negative thoughts about how hard this experience has been and how awful I feel.
Help me to remember the words of St. Paul, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, NIV). I can battle this nausea. I can battle this cancer with Your help.
I need the doctors and the medicine, but I know it is Your healing hand through it all. My hope in You is the only thing that will bring me true joy and can help me to beat this nausea and cancer mentally.
Help me to rejoice in you in my darkest hours and heal me of my nausea. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Viruses
Holy God, I have a terrible virus that is causing me to be extremely nauseous. I ask for complete healing, but at the very least moments of reprieve. I just want to curl up and cry because I’m in such a state of discomfort and disarray.
Please let my loved ones be helpful today. I can’t do much right now due to my weakness, but I just need to know that I’m loved and supported. Please keep this virus away from my family as well because I wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on anyone.
Help me to remember that this nausea won’t last forever. I’ll hopefully be on the mend in the next day or two. When I’m feeling most alone and desolate help me to hear your whispers of joy and love. Help me to know you are holding me in your loving arms. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Food Poisoning
Dear God, I ate something that wasn’t fully cooked and I now have food poisoning. Throwing up is one of my worst nightmares. Please help nausea and vomiting to end quickly. Please help me to have moments of reprieve until I can fully recover.
I am weak and exhausted from not eating much and have an overall negative disposition. I am not the best version of myself right now and I need Your strength and grace to help me shine Your light.
When I’m feeling sick my head tends to go down a negative path. However, I know you are my creator and do everything intentionally.
“You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back” (Isaiah 38:16-17, NIV).
You are teaching me to be a better Christian and for that I will be grateful. Help me unite these small sufferings to the sacrifice Your Son made on the cross. I thirst for healing Lord, but I thirst for You more. Help me to remember this. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Anxiety
Lord, I am so anxious that it’s making me nauseous. Please put my worries at bay. I know that I am doing my best, but anxiety continues to take over my life. Penetrate my heart and help me to truly feel Your peace. Help me to be receptive to the love You so freely give.
Help me to remember these words from Scripture, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life.” (Matthew 6: 25-27, NIV)?
I seem to read this verse over and over again, yet I still worry so much that I make myself sick. I feel like a terrible Christian. It seems like I can’t trust You enough, but I think I may need to seek professional help to help with this nausea. Help me to solve this problem and glorify You in the process. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Prayer For Nausea With Motion Sickness
Good and gracious God, I am getting terrible nausea from motion sickness. This is supposed to be a fun experience and all I can think about is how sick I feel. When there are so many terrible things going on in this world it seems silly to ask for help with nausea. However, you are my loving Father so I must ask you to please heal me of this nausea quickly.
Keep me calm as I try to keep nausea at bay. Help me to focus on my breathing and help me to stay calm. I trust in You. You are my light and salvation and give me peace. I will be okay. It’s just nausea. Help me to remember this is a small problem and it will go away when the motion stops.
Thank you, God for your goodness and for reminding me to enjoy the small and simple things even when I am feeling ill. In Your Name, I pray. Amen.
Concluding Thoughts
No matter the reason for nausea, it’s never fun. It’s easy to wallow in self-pity when you aren’t feeling well, but I challenge you to focus on the Lord and the joy He brings during your time of discomfort.
This is easier said than done. I frequently cry when I have nausea with pregnancy or viruses, but I believe these hardships are an invitation to lean into the Lord.
When my kids are sick they always want to snuggle up and seek comfort with me. When we are sick, let us do the same with our heavenly Father. Ask Him to heal You and be with You.
Take it easy as you work through your nausea and trust the Lord will provide you with the strength, comfort, energy, or whatever it is you need to make it through.
