4 Effective Prayers For Passing a Driving Test

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Concerned about an upcoming driving test and want to pray, but aren’t sure what to pray?

Let one of these four prayers be of help to you before you take the test.  Whether you’re a teenager about to get your first driver’s license, an experienced driver needing a solid pass because of new restrictions, or a job-seeker desiring to expand your skills with a CDL license, turn your worries and concerns over to God in prayer.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4.6, NIV).

There’s nothing in our lives that can’t be touched by God with his care and guidance.  There’s no aspect of what we do from day to day that can’t be improved or given a fresh perspective by bringing it before God in prayer.  So, why not pray about your upcoming driving test?

Wouldn’t you feel better, perhaps even more confident, knowing that you had placed your worries and concerns into the hands of the Almighty God?

Since there’s no way we can know every detail of what you are facing in regards to your driving test, you can easily alter these prayers as you need to, so that what you pray is exactly what you need to pray for your circumstances.

A Short Prayer Before a Driving Test

Dear God, I am headed to take my driving test in a few minutes.  I really want to pass it on the first try.  I’m nervous but I have been practicing with my parents for several months now.  I want to be able to remember everything I’m supposed to, so I ask that you keep me calm as I drive with the officer.  I pray this, knowing that you hear my prayer, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For Passing a CDL Driving Test

Dear Lord, I am coming to you in prayer for something that I’m concerned about, but I feel like I shouldn’t bother you with it.  I feel like you’ve got all the world’s problems to deal with, so why would you care about my driving test?

But, I’m praying anyway because my pastor said that there is no concern too small or too large to bring to you.  Well, Lord, I have the opportunity for a promotion and a sizable raise at work if I can obtain my Commercial Driving License.  I’ve been taking the classes and practicing for several months now.

I’m so thankful that my company has generously paid for the instruction–that has given me a boost of confidence.  I don’t want to let them down after they’ve put their trust in me financially and time-wise.  I want to be a good employee and grow with the company.

I ask that you help me do what I know to do.  I have done everything on the test in practice sessions repeatedly, so there’s nothing I will face that is unfamiliar.  I really want to pass this CDL test, Lord, and make my boss proud.

I’m excited about the possibility of doing something new and earning more money.  Getting this license could make a big difference in my career life, but also in our family life.  The raise in pay that comes with the CDL would really help us lower our debt significantly.

There’s a lot riding on this driving test so I don’t want to freak out about it, and certainly now while I’m taking the test.  Help me, I pray, O Lord.  I pray this prayer in confidence that you are listening to me.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer Before a Driving Test For a Teenager

Dear God, I don’t want to fail at this driving test.  My parents have been so patient over the last many months as they’ve taken me out to practice driving, over and over again.  I guess they may be as nervous as I was, given how often they stomped on the passenger floorboard for a non-existent brake pedal.

I’m thankful for what they’ve taught me and for giving me the opportunity to learn how to drive a one-ton piece of metal and glass on the roads.  I want to do them proud and pass the test on the first time around.   I don’t know if that’s an unrealistic expectation, but that is my desire.  I don’t want to fail at this.  I pray that you will help me think clearly as the monitor is giving me instructions during the test.

I also pray for me to be calm.   Help me to breath normally and not hyperventilate.  Help me to get a good night’s sleep before the day of the driving test.  My dad already told me he’ll hold my phone for me so I won’t be tempted to look at it while I’m driving.

This is just a final step toward my goal of having a driver’s license and I have prepared for this moment.  I may be making a bigger deal out of this than it really is, Lord, but I feel better when I pray to you about things in my life, so I’m sharing this with you.  Enable me to do my best on this driving test.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer About a Driving Test For an Older Adult

Dear Lord Jesus, I have discovered that I have to go back to the Department of Motor Vehicles and take a driver’s test, even though I’m over 70 years old.  I have had some corrections to my vision and my adult children tell me they are worried about how I drive.  I’ll go ahead and take the test, but I am not really enthusiastic about having to do so.

I don’t want to be a negative person about this, Lord, but it’s embarrassing for me to be in line with some young teenager to take a test just so I can continue to drive myself.  I enjoy my freedom, so I will prepare accordingly and I will pass this driving test.  I ask that you help my mind to function well and for me to follow the instructions appropriately.

I don’t want to take anything for granted with this driving test, God, so that’s why I’m praying to you.  I can do all things, including this, with you as my strength and my guide.  I don’t want to be a burden to anyone, Lord, so I need to be able to drive myself around these days.

I give you thanks that I am still in reasonably good health and can take care of myself.  I thank you for my car that is in good working order.  It seems like such a small thing to ask for, God, but my independence is important to me right now, so help me pass this test.  I lift this prayer to you in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

No one really likes having to take a test and passing with good grades will always be on your mind. But we also know that tests, be they literal or figurative, exist in our lives and must be faced.  We can take heart and gain strength that the tests we face, we do not face them alone, but with God by our side.

For something like a driving test, whether it’s a CDL to drive a big rig, a motorcycle, or anything in between, we don’t want to mess up or forget some simple instructions as we take the test.  We don’t want to get flustered and lose our calm.  We want to be focused on the task at hand so we can pass.  These are all different ways of saying we want to have our hope fulfilled.  What better way to instill hope within us than by praying to God about our driving test?

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25.5, NIV).

God is faithful to hear our prayer, whether it’s to ask for help passing the test or protection when you start driving after your test.  If for some reason, we don’t pass the driver’s test, then we take that experience and learn from it.  Then we come back even stronger the next time to pass it.

Praying about something like a driving test may seem insignificant to some people.  But you clicked on this link for a reason.  You are worried or concerned about the driving test.  Let these prayers ease your concern and lessen your worry.  As you pray, may the peace of God wash over you so you can look not at your anxious thoughts, but focus your attention on the ins and outs of the test itself.

You may want to pray for whoever is administering the test as well.  Even as you are driving, you can pray to yourself, in your thoughts, “God, help me as I drive now.  Keep me focused, Lord.”

Even if you may not have a lot of confidence in yourself in the moment, have confidence in the One who created the universe and spoke it into being.  Let God’s trust in you be present in you, in your thoughts, and in your breathing.
