It’s Thursday. It might not feel like a unique day but we are glad you are seeking new ways to pray to our God. He loves hearing from you. We are here to help as you seek God in a whole new way this Thursday.
We are glad you are here because even if you are a person who regularly prays, these prayers will help you focus on how to pray specifically for today.

We tried to think of different scenarios for a Thursday but feel free to use these prayers as a jumping-off point and begin to pray for whatever might be something you experience on Thursday.
I hope you can use these prayers to strengthen your walk with the Lord. Dwell in his presence for a little longer than you normally do and experience his goodness, power, and love. We hope that through the Holy Spirit, these prayers will give you the confidence to walk with purpose throughout your Thursday

Short Prayer For Thursday
Dear Heavenly Father, it’s Thursday. I’m in the routine of my week. I hear my alarm going off and I am instantly reminded of my need for you. You provide everything from the air I breathe to the ability to open my eyes.
I pray that you provide the strength I need for this Thursday. You are so good to have provided strength to your people in the past. Help me to praise you for the strength you have given me in the past and the confidence of the strength you will provide this Thursday.
The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. (Exodus 15:2 ESV)
I pray that I find joy in my Bible reading this morning. I want to seek after you not only in my devotional time but want to have a willing and listening ear to how you may be calling me today to draw closer to yourself.
God, help me to do the tasks that are set before me in a way that is honouring to you. Help me not be tempted by what the world has to offer but help me to see the beauty in the plans you have for me.
You are a great and mighty God. I am so thankful to be called one of your own and that on this Thursday you hear my prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Morning Prayer For Thursday
Lord, as I wake up from my sleep, I am aware that I need you. Thank you for all of your provisions. God as I see the son breaking through the darkness I’m reminded that you are the light that broke through the darkness of my life.
Thank you for setting aside your throne to come to this earth for me. You alone had the power to rescue me from the darkness that held me captive.
This morning I opened your word. I desire to know you more.
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. (Psalm 143: 8 ESV)
God, I surrender this Thursday to you. I am yours alone. You Father, know what today will bring. You see the future and know the weakness I will face. I pray now that you go before me. Give me strength when I need it. And destroy any plans of the enemy he may have for me today.
My Shepard you know I wonder. I do this in my thoughts and actions throughout the day. I pray that you teether me close. Allow me to see every moment of this Thursday as an opportunity to live for you.
I pray all of these things through Jesus, the only one who can save and the perfect example, Amen
Lunch Prayer Of Praise On Thursday
Dear God, I pause in the middle of this Thursday to ask you to continue to guide me. This morning I stumbled and made decisions based on my pride. Help me to seek forgiveness from those that I have hurt and humble me to be more like you.
I praise you that you have redeemed me. You brought me life when I had none and now even as I desire you I sometimes fail. Forgive me, Lord. Your grace is so abundant.
God, I pray that you carry me throughout my afternoon. Help me to run to you when I am being unjustly teased. I know that I can forgive those who hurt me because you have forgiven me so much.
Help me to turn my eyes to you and let the things of this earth that seemed to have bothered me so much this morning fade away. Help me to seek you and draw me near to you.
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 ESV)
God, I praise you for loving me, and for being with me throughout this Thursday. I pray you continue to be by my side. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Thursday Dinner Prayer
Lord God, I sit here with my family tonight in awe of your goodness. Thank you for all you have provided, this home, work, and the food at this table.
God, I thank you for my spouse who helps me. For my children, I pray that You keep them close and in Your timing that You open their eyes to Your truth so that they may walk with You all the days of their lives. I pray you help me teach them about you.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6 ESV)
Lord, I pray for the family that is not with us today. I pray that if there is reconciliation that needs to take place you give me the boldness to find the time and the right words to restore those relationships.
Thank you for giving me purpose, patience, and guidance this Thursday. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Rest On Thursday Night
God, tonight I pray for rest for my family, especially those who do not know you. As many will look forward to Friday and the coming weekend for rest I pray that instead they turn to you for all their hope and rest only you can provide.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
God, I pray that you open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light. Allow them to see how their lives have been controlled by the power of Satan but there is great hope in you. You are the only one who loves us fully and keeps your promise to provide for your children.
God, we can only rest in you. You alone God can forgive our sins and sanctify us by faith in Jesus. So I pray that you work in my family’s lives this Thursday night. You are the one that can open their eyes. I pray you give them the courage to follow you in faith.
I pray all of this and trust in your love for me, this day and every day, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Thursday Prayer For Governing Authorities
Dear Lord, I pray for our president and other governing authorities who are over me. I trust that you have put them in that position. On this Thursday many governing authorities gather together to make decisions and lead the people under them.
Give them wisdom and guidance. I pray you help them to have humble hearts and a love for people.
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4 ESV)
God, there are many governing authorities that are not walking with you and I pray that you capture their hearts. Help them to see that the best way to lead the people under them is to love them as Christ loved His Church.
God, when I’m tempted to talk against these individuals help me to guard my thoughts and words. Instead, help me to speak about them and pray for them in a way that is honouring to you. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Thursday Prayer For Enemy
God, every day I am well aware that I am in this world but not part of it. I have an enemy at work that I come across daily. By Thursday I am eager for the weekend so that there will be a break in the confrontations.
I know you have said that as Christians we will have enemies and that we should love them. Help me to love this enemy in a way that honours you. This person has hurt me so much and drains me so help me to have strength and confidence that you are always with me.
God, help me to be an encouragement to him. Help me to honour his authority and encourage him in ways that will build up your kingdom and not tear it apart.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. (Hebrews 13:7 ESV)
God, I pray that every day I will always stand strong but I ask for a special amount of strength this Thursday. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thursday Prayer For My Pastor
God, as my pastor is getting towards the end of this work week I pray that you continue to give him strength. Help him to not be burdened or struggle with despair as he recounts all the brokenness he has experienced this week.
God, I pray that you provide encouragement for my pastor. Help him to see the fruit of his labour. Help my pastor to continue to feel the excitement of bringing your word. And when they don’t feel fulfilled in their job, help them to stay consistent and strong in obedience to you.
Lord, help my pastor to see what is most important and not get too busy. Help them be able to delegate work so that they can focus on studying, praying and preaching your word. Help him find time to study, think, meditate, and pray.
God, help my pastor, and those that help him lead, to prioritize. Give him a deep desire to pray and be in communion with you. Continue to mould his mind to your ways and help him care less about the opinions of this world.
God, as my pastor prioritizes time with you in prayer and in your word, I know his love for his people will begin to overflow. Remind him of the important role that the Holy Spirit has given him to oversee those in his care.
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. (Acts 20:28 ESV)
God, I love that you care more about our faithfulness than numbers. Help my pastor be encouraged by the growth in our congregation’s hearts rather than the numbers in the seats.
God, give him the rest he needs before he preaches on Sunday. Help him tonight to be able to go home and enjoy time with his family.
I pray this all in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers For Flexibility This Thursday
Father, you know the plans for my life but it feels like they just keep shifting. By Thursdays, I have experienced so many adjustments at work. Plans with friends have been shifted for the weekend several times. I long for stability and struggle with the ever-shifting life each week brings.
God, I pray that you help me to be flexible and adaptable.
As I prepare for Friday tomorrow and don’t know exactly what tomorrow will look like I trust that you do. I lay my life in your hands and have confidence that you care for me.
God, I especially want to be flexible as you help me grow to be more like you.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 ESV)
God, I thank you for your faithfulness and steadfast love. Help me to remember these truths about you when I’m struggling to be flexible. I pray this all in your name, Amen.
Prayers Of Praise For Thursday
God, you are so good. You are worthy of all our praise. Today on this Thursday I think of the Thursday before Jesus would die. I thank you for Jesus giving us a new command.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34).
Christ, you demonstrated so powerfully the standard of love we should have. You gave your life to demonstrate your love. Even though I had rebelled against you and am a sinner you died for me.
God, I thank you for the disciples who remembered these words you spoke on that Thursday night so that I may know them. I treasure your words and I love that as I pray to you with words you are able to speak back to me with your written Word.
God, I thank you that on that same Thursday, we see how Jesus instructed his disciples and shared with them about his coming betrayal. While the disciples didn’t understand at first they were able to remember this conversation and must have stood in awe of your knowledge of the future.
God, today when I am confused by something that comes into my life help me to remember that you see the future and your plans are good.
In your word, I also read that the disciples sang a hymn together. I thank you, Lord, for the example we see throughout scripture to sing praises with others for your glory. Help me never stop singing your praises.
Sadly I also see Jesus predicts Peter’s denial. On this Thursday I’m sure there will be opportunities to stand strong for Christ or to deny Him with my lifestyle. I pray that you help me stand firm and learn what it looks like to feed your sheep.
Finally, on that Thursday you, Jesus, went to Gethsemane to pray. Help me to stay in prayer with you even when it’s a struggle.
God, thank you for the details you have given your children about that last Thursday Jesus spent on Earth alive. It is an encouragement in so many different ways of your love and guidance. Please guide me this Thursday. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thankful Prayer For Thursday
Father God, it’s a new day on this Thursday and I give you thanks that the slate is clean and I can learn and grow today. Wherever I go, I know I will meet people today and have the chance to learn from them. I am also thankful for the opportunities I will have to share my knowledge and experience with others.
I want to leverage the freedom of this new day, but I also want to be humble and open-minded. Help me to be a good learner and to be willing to ask questions if I don’t know something. Give me a spirit of curiosity, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing Thoughts
We hope that you can continue to persevere, that these prayers gave you guidance, and that you prayed to our God, who loves you!
On Thursday and every day it is good to remember the Gospel and what Christ has done. As we focus on the Gospel we will desire to praise God and the things that worry us in this world will seem less burdensome.
Romans 5:6-11 is a great reminder of the Gospel. It reminds us that while we were weak and sinners God showed his love for us by accepting Christ’s blood on our behalf. This truth is so beautiful because now we stand before God justified and will never have to fear the wrath of God.
Jesus has reconciled us to God!
More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. (Romans 5:11 ESV)
Thursdays may feel like any other day but it’s always nice to think of different ways every day to reach out to God. Thank you for allowing us to help lead you in those different ways this Thursday.
