5 Strengthening Prayers For Tiredness

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Does it seem like life is always pulling you from one thing to the next?

Even when we sit and pray our minds can be relentless as they move from one thought to the next.

It can be so tiresome.

If you are tired, you are not alone.  As Christians we daily face a world that is not our own. We strive to live in a way that honors and glorifies God when we are surrounded by the pain of a sinful world.

The world calls us to be busy, get a lot done, be successful and make a lot of money. And if you are a parent then there’s that extra business of driving them to activities, cleaning up after them, and trying to make sure they are doing well.

I understand how wearisome it can be, somedays I’m just plain tired. Tired of the early mornings, mundane tasks, and late nights. But I’m convinced we have a God who cares for us, especially when we are tired.

There is hope and our only hope in life is Jesus. When we are tired we are reminded that we are human and we are in need of a God.

We are glad you are here, seeking prayers that can help you cry out to God in your tiredness.

God knows we need rest, he created it. He knew we would need daily and weekly reminders to slow down and enjoy his presence.

We hope these prayers will begin to help you seek rest for your tiredness. More importantly, we hope that your tiredness and these prayers remind you that you need God, and He is available to come to with your prayers.

You can also use the comments section at the bottom of this page to ask for prayers from others that have also felt tired and in need of His strength.

Brief Prayer For Tiredness

God, you are the giver of all good gifts. I pray now for rest. I am so tired.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:17 ESV)

When I get so busy with life will you help me to pause, think of you, and how you have rescued me from this world? Help me then to rest in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Prayer For Fatigue

Lord, help me to see when fatigue is coming and help me to rest before it overwhelms me.

I recognize that you have created me and you created me in a way that I can not go forever. So when I begin to get fatigued help me to recognize that it’s a gentle reminder that I need rest, something that you created and is so good for me.

Lord, you have given me the ability to be active, but will you also give me discernment to know when I am taking on too much?

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5 ESV)

God, direct me to life-giving activities, rather than seeking activities that only please me because of these only lead to fatigue. Give me the wisdom to know what things will honor you and which things I need to say no to.

God, you are so gracious. Thank you for not sparing Jesus and allowing Him to be my savior. Help me to rest in this truth when I’m stricken with fatigue. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Exhaustion

God, I’m so exhausted I don’t even know what to pray. Give me rest.

Throughout history, you have been giving your people rest. Thank you for stories in scripture where we can see your hand at work and how they point us to Christ.

Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you? (Ruth 3:1 ESV)

I think of these women, who are exhausted. They have had a really rough life and now have no one to help. God, you provided rest for them in a redeemer, Boaz. He redeemed them to a restful life, (Ruth 4 ESV).

God, this story points me to Christ who is my redeemer. Thank you for Jesus, who came to redeem souls from the destruction they deserve. He died a sacrificial death for my sins, was raised to life, and now is sitting at your right hand, God.

Reflecting on these stories and how you have given me rest in the past have reminded me of your goodness. You created rest to be a good thing and I know my ultimate rest comes from you.

God, will you also humble me to accept help as Ruth and Naomi did? It is not easy to accept help sometimes, I want to be independent but you have placed me in a body of believers where we can care for each other, so help me to be able to accept that with a gracious heart.

God, I surrender and ask you to redeem me. Please enter me into a life of rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer For Being Burnt Out

God, I know you have called me to this season of life. I see how you are guiding me and providing. I want to continue working as if I was working for you as long as you have me here, but I’m tired.

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)

Lord, help me to wait on you, to rest in your truths. I know when I feel like I have nothing left to give that you give me strength. I am nothing apart from you.

God, when I am anxious help me to turn to you. When I am tempted to do it all in my own strength, help me to surrender to you. God, please help me truly rest and wait for you to move and guide me.

I know I will burn out if I’m doing it all in my own strength. So please give me strength and guide me. Help me to finish strong. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer To Help Find Time To Rest

God, I struggle to find time to rest. I so often find my identity in my work or the activities of my day. I sometimes even stay busy so I don’t have to think of things. Help me to rest and to find my identity in you alone.

When I think of my identity as being a beloved child, I can leave the pressures of this world behind and rest in your truth.

When I think of my identity as being an heir, I can abandon my need to make wealth on this earth and rest.

When I think of my identity as being a part of the body, I can remember that I don’t have to do it alone.

God thank you that my identity is not based on what I have done or accomplished but solely on what Christ has done. Help me to dwell on the truth that I am yours because Christ died for my sins.

As I seek to find time to rest help me begin by thinking of who I am in you. Help me to dwell on the gospel. Help me to not get anxious during these moments of rest. You promise rest and I want to rest in you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28).

God, I want to thank you for the promise of rest. God, you are faithful even when I am not. Help me to find time to rest and enjoy the time I have with you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Thoughts

It is easy to get fatigued, exhausted, and tired. You may not know what rest even feels like. You have probably experienced physically being tired and emotionally tired. We know your weary soul aches for rest.

Allow these prayers to encourage you that in Christ there is rest.

Stop and recognize that being tired is a sweet reminder that we are only human and in need of a God. We have a God who is almighty, just, kind, and personal. He loves to hear your prayers, so continue to cry out to Him every time your body and mind are tired.

The Christian life is not easy, and there are dangers, but there is so much good in having a relationship with a God who knows you, forgives you, and loves you. So our hope is that you rest in Him today.

Nothing this world throws your way is too big for our God, not even our tiredness. He created rest and he will graciously give it to you.

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32 ESV)

Tiredness might not be the only burden you are carrying, and if you’re seeking for a different prayer to give you strength for whatever difficulties you may be facing, then leave a prayer request, so we can ease your soul by bringing you closer to Him.
