It is not always easy to make wise financial decisions.
I can personally attest to this as I’m sure you can too. Financial decisions often are mixed with our personal desires, needs we face, how it impacts those we love, and honoring God.
Oftentimes for me, my financial decisions go in that order. I often need to surrender my pride and reverse what my sinful thoughts say are most important.
When we become born again we are a new creation. That means that everything is new; our thoughts, our actions, our priorities, and our devotion. We no longer do what is pleasing to self but what is pleasing to God.
As Christians, we are called to love God and love others. It is important that as you make financial decisions you are doing it in a way that honors God and loves your neighbor.
We can not divide our lives into financial management or spiritual issues. As Christians, we recognize that all of our lives are under God’s sovereignty. So as we work on being disciplined with our finances we must see how our money interacts with our whole lives and under God’s sovereignty.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money” (Matthew 6:24 ESV).
A follower of Jesus cannot be divided in their loyalty. The Lord is the only one we should serve. Our financial discipline should be guided by Christ and reflect how we trust the Lord.
This is why praying for financial decisions is so important. We are glad you have decided to pray for help in this area. God wants to help and give you wisdom in this area so that every part of your life can glorify him.
Short Prayer For Financial Decision
God, I ask that you help me make wise financial decisions. I have so many things I could spend my money on and so many of them seem good. However, I want to do what is best.
God, help me to not make decisions based on my own desires but on what would be best for your kingdom.
I pray that you guide me and give me the trust I need to follow through on my decisions. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Financial Wisdom
To you God, I lift up my prayer request for financial wisdom because I know I can trust you. Let me not be ashamed of my past financial decisions but help me to follow you now.
Father, I ask that you help me understand your wisdom when it comes to my finances. Lead me to the truths that are laid out in scripture that can teach me.

God, I thank you for the salvation I have in your son. It is through this gift of grace that want to make wise financial decisions. When I do not know what decision to make help me be patient in waiting for you.
God, when I mess up and make a decision that is selfish will you please remind me of your steadfast love? Help me not to dwell on these poor decisions but instead turn back to you and recognize the small growth you have already given me.
Father, you are good and I trust in you to help me make wise financial decisions. Humble me to your ways and help me to be faithful to the decisions I’ve made. Help me make wise financial decisions. Amen.
Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. (Psalm 25:4-5 ESV)
Prayer For Financial Guidance
God, you are good and upright. I know I can trust you to guide me in how I should make, spend, and give my money.
Father, help me not be tempted but instead humble me and guide me to what is right. Thank you for forgiving me when I have not sought your guidance but relied on my own feelings.
God, help me to see that your guidance in financial decisions is for your good. You will not leave me and I can trust in your faithfulness to guide me.
I ask that you allow me to rest in you as some of the ways you will guide me will be uncomfortable. Help me to trust that you are good and to keep my eyes on you and not the things of this world.
Prayer For Financial Decision Regarding College
God, I ask that you hear me today. I am trying to make good financial decisions when it comes to going to college. I don’t know if it is wise to go into school debt if I’m not sure of where you are guiding me. So I ask that you clearly guide me
I feel so alone as I am battling through this decision. I often question what I’m doing after high school and I’m not sure. Lord the only thing I am sure of is that I want to be close to you.
God, this decision is weighing heavy on my heart. I ask that you direct me and bring me out of this hard season of my life.
Father, there are so many people who advise me on what way to go. Some of this advice seems good and some seem so worldly. Help me to be able to tell what is from you.
Guard my heart from my own selfish desires but instead give me guidance on what is the best decision for college. Help me to see the good financial decision but most important help me to see what decision would be most honoring to you.
Prayer For Financial Decision Regarding Big Purchases
God, I need your help and I ask that you hear me today. I need to make a decision about a large purchase and I need your help.
I am so thankful that I am one of your redeemed children and that I can come to you for a prayer like this. I trust that you will guide me. Thank you for being my God.
Forgive me for not always making wise financial decisions when it comes to large purchases. I do not want to continue to make this same mistake.
You have been so good to answer me in the past and I trust that you will answer me again regarding this big purchase. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Financial Decision Regarding Elderly Care
Dear Heavenly Father, we are making many decisions about the care of ___________ (name of elderly loved one). Today I want to especially pray that we make good financial decisions for the care of ___________ (name of elderly loved one).
God, you are good and I trust that you will provide guidance in this area. We want our loved one to be cared for as long as she/he needs it but we also don’t want to bankrupt the family doing it.
I’m asking you to do a great work in not only giving us wisdom but for providing financially for my loved one. Help me to humble myself and follow whatever you are calling me to do.
Prayer For Financial Decision Regarding Work Promotion
God, you are so good to me. You have provided me with work and you have provided me with the strength to work hard. I praise you for your many blessings in my life.
God, I have an opportunity for a promotion at work. The promotion will require more of my time and it is good, but is it what is best? I ask that you help me understand if this is what you would like me to do.
Financially it will allow me to provide better for my family but help me to see if it will cost me more time.
Please guide me with this decision, Amen.
Closing Thoughts
Making financial decisions as part of our new lives is not always easy. In our old bodies we made financial decisions based on what was best for ‘me’ and ‘people I like best’. But now as new creations, we make decisions based on what is best for the Kingdom of God and God’s glory.
Being a Christian really does change everything. It’s not always easy to accept these changes. But these changes are good. They even affect how we spend and make decisions on what to spend our money on.
