10 Caring Prayers For A Niece

Last Updated on November 28, 2023 by Emma

As an uncle who is married, I have half a dozen nephews and nieces on both sides of our family.  I love my nieces and have even had the honor of officiating at three of their weddings–what a joy!

They are not my own children which gives me, as an uncle and my wife as an aunt, some relational freedom with them.  It’s a wonderfully unique relationship and I treasure being their uncle.

Yet, I know they have gone through tough times and challenges in their lives.  They will face new obstacles as well in the future.  They will also have new celebrations to enjoy.  I want to be able to pray for them in those situations.

Perhaps you have been burdened with a concern about your niece.  You’ve been looking for a way to pray for her.  Let these 10 caring prayers be a helpful tool for you to do just that.

I obviously could not write a prayer for every possible situation so feel free to modify any of these prayers for your specific circumstance.

In the future, come back to this site if you want to pray for other family members, like a cousin, or a future in-law, or even a soon-coming grandchild.

The good thing about praying for nieces is that it reminds us of how we can love our family, as God loves us.  Through Christ, we are adopted into God’s family, as the Apostle Paul reminds us:

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure” (Ephesians 1.5, NLT).

So, take pleasure in being an uncle or aunt and funnel that delight into caring for your niece by praying for her regularly.  We’d love to hear about your answers to these prayer or other comments down below.

Short Prayer for a Niece

God, I ask you to watch over and protect my niece. Help her in her life right now, as she has many challenges she faces. There’s not an area of her life where she does not need your guidance and help. Surround her with your grace and mercy and enable her to live in your peace. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer For a New Niece

O Lord, I am so overjoyed as I just found out that I will be an uncle/aunt for the first time.  My sister is having a baby soon and it’s a girl!  I pray for this child who will be my first niece.

I’m not ready to be a father yet, but I think I can handle being an uncle/aunt!  I pray for her to be delivered full of health and life.  I ask for your guidance in how to be a good uncle/aunt to her.  I know I am not her father so I don’t have to parent her or that kind of thing, but I want to be available to her as she grows up.

I’m looking way ahead here, Lord, but help me to be able to listen to her when she needs someone to talk to who is not her parents. Give me the right wisdom at the right time. I’m so looking forward to holding her and loving her. Thank you for the gift that is my new niece. I ask for all these things and give you thanks through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for a Struggling Niece

Dear God, as I just got married I now am an uncle/aunt to a few nieces on my wife’s side.  What an amazing expansion of family and connection!

I pray for one of my nieces-in-law, although I’m just going to call her my niece.  She seems to be struggling with receiving good attention.  It seems she is acting out in negative ways and her parents are not sure what to do.  I ask for your direction as to what part, if any, I can play in all that.

I am a new person to her so I don’t expect there to be much trust built up.  I ask that I can be a safe presence for her, an objective viewpoint for her.  I love her and care for her because she’s now part of the family but I also know I don’t need to overstep my bounds either.

Help me be a measure of your love, acceptance, and grace in her life, as the moment arises.  I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Safety

Dear God in heaven, I ask you to keep my niece safe right now.  She’s overseas on a school trip and there are some major storms brewing right in the area where she is.

We have not been able to get in contact with her, so of course we are all worried about her.  I pray that she will use common sense and a measure of your divine direction as she hopefully tries to keep safe.

I pray for her parents as well as they are frantic.  Help me and my wife to be voices of peace and calm amidst the chaos of the moment.  We just want her to be safe and be able to return home unharmed.  We pray this in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Health Struggle

God, I come to you in prayer for my niece.  She is facing a pretty major health struggle right now. I pray for her to receive the best care she can for her condition. I pray for all the financial requirements to be met and paid for by your provision.

I also pray for her to have the strength to meet this head-on and not grow weary from the daily needs that will have to be attended to for her situation. She means so much to me and I want to help her in any way I can, but right now all I can do is pray. So, hear my prayer, O God, and be near my niece. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Wedding

Father God, my youngest niece is getting married!  We are all so happy for her.  I come to you in prayer asking for you to bless her wedding.  I ask that you help her, and her mom, not to stress over all the details, but to enjoy the celebration of the two coming together.

I pray for the ceremony to go smoothly and for everyone to feel a sense of your love and grace.  Help them both to see the wedding as the beginning of a lifelong celebration together.  In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Need for Healing

Dear Lord, I pray for my niece’s healing.  I’m not even sure she is aware that she needs healing from her damaged emotions and behavior, so I come to you on her behalf.

Underneath all of the words and actions she is throwing out, there is a little girl who is hurting.  I pray for your Spirit to reach that place deep in her to help her realize we all want the best for her.  Help her receive your deep healing through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Mental Health

Lord God, I pray for my niece who is dealing with some mental health issues.  I am thankful that she has opened up about what she is facing and wants to get the help she needs.  She could have kept it hidden but she did not and for that I am grateful.

Help her to know that no one is judging her.  I pray against any work of shame that would come her way.  I pray that she finds the right fit for a trained therapist who can give her the tools she needs to handle this.  I want her to know she is not alone and that she is supported and loved by more than her parents.

I pray she can arrive at a good place in her mental health and not be afraid of the therapeutic work to get there.  I’m so proud of her for coming forward.  Thank you Jesus, Amen!

Prayer for a Niece’s Work Environment

God, please help my niece get out of her work environment.  I don’t know if she needs to just get another job completely or switch to another area of the company, but from what she has been telling me, her current area is toxic.

I pray for her to have the strength to stand against that toxicity. I also pray you give her the direction and guidance to be able to make good decisions for her own good and for the financial security she needs for her job and livelihood.  I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for a Niece’s Marriage Trouble

Lord, I pray for my niece and her husband.  They are having marriage trouble, which is frightening to them because they are still in the early stages of their married life together. Help them both to get some perspective on where they are and what they are dealing with.

She has reached out to me and I want to be prepared for our conversation.  Help me be not only a good uncle/aunt but a positive, listening presence for her. Also, I ask that you give me the insight needed to ask the right questions so she can discover solutions on her own.

Help me to help her as best I can, Lord.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Being a parent is of course a special thing.  Being an aunt or uncle is also special, just in a different way. As you pray for your niece, be encouraged to continue praying and being loving, with the words from the Apostle Paul:

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6.10, NIV).

What could be better than praying for someone?  Keep doing that good thing for your niece, and let her know she is being prayed for.  It may do more good than you could ever know.
