5 Encouraging Prayers for Business Owners

Searching for prayers for a business owner?  Needing to pray about your small business?  Have you decided to start a business and desire strength in prayer?

These five encouraging prayers are for business owners just like you.  If you’re a friend of a small business owner, then you can use these prayers as well (and share them with your friend!).  Each is targeted for a certain type of business owner, but you are welcome to tailor the prayer to your given situation.

Being a business owner carries a lot of responsibility with it.  You have oversight of employees and products and services and property.  The success of your business impacts other people and their families.  You don’t need to let the burden of all of that crush you.

Invite God into your business and ask for his blessing in all aspects of your new business.  As you make decisions, seek God’s wisdom.  When you are wondering why you are doing what you’re doing, remember this truth from God’s Word:

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3.17, NIV).

You are not only serving your customers and employees, but in the bigger picture you are serving God.  You get the opportunity to work and have purpose each day.  You get the excitement of seeing who God brings across your path in your business.

Perhaps you’ve wanted to start your own business and now you’re getting the chance.  Or, you’ve been a business owner for quite some time.  Wherever you find yourself on the business owner spectrum, you know that just discussing business isn’t enough.  You know you’ve got to put the time in to make a business happen, and to turn a profit.

“All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty” (Proverbs 14.23, NIV).

Owning a business may not be all glory and success all of the time, but it is rewarding for you.  Consider that you get to see how your actions impact the business.  You have a say, a stake in what happens in the business, versus being merely an employee in a cubicle (which is fine, by the way, as not everyone is meant to own a business).  You’re in a unique position.

But you also know that you cannot own a business and do everything by yourself.  Whether we are working for ourselves or own our own business, it’s been estimated that we work 90,000 hours of our life.  It makes sense that we should undergird all of this working with daily praying!

As you open your business each day, say a prayer.  As you close your business each day, say a prayer.  As you fill out payroll, say a prayer.  Before hiring an employee, say a prayer.  Soak your business in prayer to God.  Rest in God’s peace as you pray, knowing that you’re praying to the Almighty God about your business.

So, pray these prayers as often as you need.  And, remember to share your prayer requests at the end of this article.

A Brief Prayer for a Business Owner

Dear God, I pray for the business I own.  We’ve been around for a number of years now, but I don’t ever want to lose sight of the fact that we are able to do what we do because of you.  I thank you for the location we are in and for our employees.  Guide me as I manage the business and the relationships with integrity.  I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Short Prayer for a Small Business Owner

Lord, I’m a small business owner and I need your help.  We are able to make a living here and for that I am so grateful to you for your provision.  I pray for continued success and sustainable profit moving forward.  People are counting on this business for their livelihood.  I place my trust in you to guide me in good decision-making for this business.  In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Prayer for a Successful Business Owner

Father God, I give you thanks and praise!  We have turned a profit for the sixth year in a row!  We could not have achieved any type of success without your hand of favor upon us.

From the time you checked my spirit when I wanted to expand (and it was bad timing) to how you brought a new employee after a long-time worker departed, you have provided for this business.  I pray that our business success brings glory to you as people see what you have done here.

I thank you for each person who has prayed for this business over the years.  I thank you Lord, for the customers who have come through the doors and their loyalty to this business, to us.  I am humbled, knowing that while I own this store, I didn’t do this alone.

May you allow me to be of help to other business owners, with an encouraging word or a sound piece of advice.  I know the success we are experiencing is meant to be share.  With a grateful heart, I pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for a Struggling Business Owner

God, my business is struggling!  I need money coming in this week and I don’t see how it’s going to happen.  We’ve been diligent Lord, so I’m at a loss as to knowing what to do to bring in more business soon.

Our workers are faithful to show up and do their job well, and for that I am so thankful.  The customers we do have are loyal, and for that I’m thankful.  But I need your provision and insight, Lord.  I am missing something.

We need to increase our customer base soon or the financial plateau we’ve been on for the last couple of months will begin to look more like a ski slope going down.

I enjoy owning this business, God.  It’s so fulfilling and meaningful as I get to see an immediate impact from what I do each day.  I want all of that to continue, so I pray for your help, in the name of the Great Provider, Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for a Start-Up Small Business

Father in heaven, it’s finally happening! I’ve had a dream, a desire for so many years to start my own business and now the time is here. All of the circumstances have fallen into place. The financing is set up, the location is secured, and our business plan is sound.

Thank you for all of the lessons learned just in getting to this moment. I pray for continued guidance as I begin a new business and career journey. It feels like so much responsibility–now people are counting on me for their paycheck and livelihood. But that’s why I lift this prayer to you, O God.

I can do nothing without you, but with you, with your strength, I trust I can do all things. I know it will be hard, but I also know that you, O God, are with me, carrying the burden. I thank you for your presence with me in this endeavor.

Lord, I pray this prayer, and I place this business before you, in the strong name of Jesus, our Lord, Amen.

Concluding Thoughts

Owning your own business or starting up a business is exciting and frustrating, often in the same day!  But most business owners would say that, in the end, it is worthwhile.  Each business has its level of success and profit. Some struggle more than others but every day you work on it the closer you are to a business breakthrough.

Even though 40% become profitable, 30% break even, and 30% lose money,  small businesses continue to start up and continue to plug away week-in, week-out.  Most any business owner will tell you that they do it because they like being their own boss, or they are pursuing their passion or some other personal choice.

What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8.36, NIV).

Of course anybody will want to make an income to support themselves or their families.  But business owners also know the satisfaction of working at something they enjoy each day, which can be more meaningful than a bulging bank account.

Which is why it’s a good habit to incorporate prayer into your business day with the same tenacity with which you incorporated your business.  Prayer brings you in connection with God.  Prayers opens the door for the wisdom of Holy Spirit to enter into your business decisions.  Advice and insight from others are crucial to making it in the business world:

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15.22, NIV).

Why not let praying to God be as much of your business plan as the marketing and financials?  Let the peace of God surround you as you pray for your business and your employees and yourself.  Let these five encouraging prayers help your business grow financially and faithfully.
