6 Soft Prayers For Appendicitis

Last Updated on October 19, 2023 by Emma

Appendicitis can be both scary and very painful. When I was around ten years old, my oldest brother had appendicitis. As a child, I was frightened when I saw the flashing blue and red lights of an ambulance outside my bedroom window. I remember rushing down the stairs to see my brother, who looked pale and weak, being loaded into the ambulance to get rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.

My parents encouraged us to pray, and I remember asking God to keep my brother safe. After the surgery, my brother recovered well. I visited him in the hospital after surgery, and he had a display of cards from friends at his highschool. I was so thankful that there were no complications, and I was even a little jealous of the unlimited amounts of chocolate pudding he got to eat after his operation.

Appendicitis isn’t a rare occurrence, it can still leave you feeling scared and vulnerable and in moments like these, I find myself turning to God. Thanking Him for His love, for the comfort that the people closest to me offer me, and for the care of the doctors and all the medical staff when I need them.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (Psalm 118:1)

The following prayers can be used to seek the Lord if you know someone who has to have surgery for appendicitis. If you yourself has to undergo a procedure for a failing appendix, you can substitute your own name in the following prayers.

You can also find more prayers that might suit your situation, like a prayer for stomach cancer, or if you’ve lost a loved one. If you can’t find a prayer that speaks to you leave a comment with your prayer request or simply pray with us in the comment section.

Short Prayer For Appendicitis

God, I pray for my friend who just got diagnosed with appendicitis. Lord, I know that this illness can be so painful. I pray that you would help the pain, possible nausea, and weakness to subside until the surgery can happen. I pray that you would help my friend’s appendix not to rupture, but that you would keep it intact until it can be removed.

Lord, I pray for full healing for my friend. Keep them safe during surgery. As Job 42:2 reminds me, “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”

Long Prayer For Appendicitis

God, I pray that you would be with my friend right now. They just went to the hospital with severe pain in their side. Lord, I know how difficult it is to be in discomfort, and I can’t even imagine that kind of pain.

Lord, I pray that you would help my friend get into surgery quickly. Please help all the prep to go smoothly so that they are able to have their appendix removed as quickly as possible. In the meantime, I pray that You would help the pain and discomfort to be manageable.

I pray that You would keep my friend mentally strong and help them to trust in You to see them through this surgery. Help my friend not to be anxious but to rest in the truth that if You are so powerful to raise people from the dead (Luke 8:40-56), You can certainly bring them through this Surgery.

God, I ask that You would give the doctors the wisdom they need to perform this surgery. I ask that You would equip the surgeon’s hands and mind to remove the appendix without any complications. I pray that You would give the surgeon focus as he performs the surgery.

Lord, I pray for healing for my friend after the surgery. I ask that You would prevent their body from getting any infections as a result of the surgery. Help my friend, after the surgery, to take the time needed to rest and recover.

I pray that You would use this difficult time in their life to remind them that You are fully with us through every trial. Cause my friend to remember, in thankfulness, that all suffering is temporary. Bring to mind 2 Corinthians 4:17 which says:

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

Use this as an opportunity for us both to remember that our suffering produces endurance and that we have the hope of eternal glory in heaven, no matter what happens in this life.

God, I praise You and thank You that You are a healer.

Prayer Before Appendectomy

Dear Lord, I pray that Your presence would be with my friend who is about to undergo a procedure for appendicitis. Lord, I pray that You would guide their heart and mind to not give into the temptation to worry about the outcome.

Lord, You are fully in control of all things, and I know that You are sovereign over this surgery. God, I ask that You would remind my friend of Your healing hand. Help them to know that You have always been faithful and that You will continue to be faithful even through this surgery. I ask that You would help the physical suffering that they are experiencing to subside.

God, I pray for peace even for myself. I ask that You would keep me from the fear that threatens I ask that You would help me to surrender my thoughts and feelings to You.

Prayer During Appendectomy

God, my friend is currently undergoing surgery for appendicitis. I thank You so much that You gave my friend the wisdom to know that someone was wrong in their body and to seek medical treatment before the situation got worse.

Lord, I pray that You would guide the doctor’s hands. Let them touch and move only as You would have them touch and move. I pray that any outside distractions that come into the surgeon’s mind would be removed so that they can fully focus on the procedure at present.

As I sit here anxiously awaiting the call that the surgery is over and that it was successful, I pray that You would give me peace and that You are in control. Isaiah 26:3 reminds me, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Help me to stay steadfastly trusting in You throughout this surgery.

Prayer After Appendectomy

Lord, I am so grateful that You brought my friend through to the other side of this surgery. Thank You so much for being with the doctors and causing them to be successful with the operation.

God, I know that the recovery process has just begun. Lord, I also know that there can be complications after surgery, and I pray that Your healing power would stop any infections or other issues from setting in. I pray that the incision would heal painlessly. I ask that You would help my friend to heal quickly and to be able to return to their daily activities.

In the meantime, I know it can be so hard to slow down and take time to recover. I ask that You would use this time as an opportunity for my friend to sit still before You and reflect on Your goodness and faithfulness to them.

Praise For Successful Appendectomy

Lord, thank you for guiding the surgeons and the medical staff during the surgery that my friend went through. I know this was a scary time for them and even for me, but I’m grateful that You gave them the peace they needed to endure the appendectomy.

God, thank You for being there for my friend during the healing process, and for giving them strength as their body healed after the surgery. My whole soul and everything in me praises You. Help my friend to always remember the good things that You provide for them.

Closing Thoughts

Appendicitis can be very frightening to go through. Though there are many people who go through it and have successful surgeries, it is still alarming when one of our organs fails. I hope these prayers have given you some words to pray when you or someone you know has appendicitis.

Be reminded that no matter what we go through, God will walk through it with us, even in the scary times of physical illness. Jesus Himself told us, when He left this earth physically, that He is always with us (Matthew 28:20).
