7 Realistic Prayers for Good Biopsy Results

Last Updated on December 2, 2023 by Emma

Worried about your biopsy results?  Need a prayer for good biopsy results?

Having your doctor tell you that you need to have a biopsy done after a checkup can raise questions and elevate worry.  Why would they need to do a biopsy unless something was wrong?  What happens if the biopsy is positive, which means they found something? For many people, any medical test is a source of stress and a reason to pray.

I remember the first time I had to have a biopsy done.  I went to the dermatologist because I noticed several moles on my skin that hadn’t been there previously.  She suggested three biopsies for three spots.  They did it right then in the office and sent each sample away for review.  Most of what I recall is the waiting and the praying.

I waited for a week to hear the results.  Thankfully, the results were negative, which in the vocabulary of biopsies is a good thing.  There was no skin cancer–the spots were benign and thus not harmful.  I had prayed for this exactly so I was so grateful to God, of course.  I just knew when I prayed that I didn’t want to get skin cancer.

You may be facing a similar situation.  Your doctor has noticed something irregular or abnormal, or of concern in a certain area of your body,  such as your breast, prostate, skin, colon, or lungs.  They now want to do a biopsy to delve further into it to discover what the cause is, and how to proceed.  You may be nervous and anxious and worried, or a mixture of all three.

It’s okay to have these emotions in your situation.  It’s also okay to pray about your biopsy.  It’s okay to ask God for a good biopsy result–you’re letting God know what you want, and need.  Whatever the result will be, you can be at peace that God is with you in every moment and willing to listen to every problem you have even if it feels purely physical.

You can also be strengthened by the truth behind this scripture:

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6.34, NIV).

The worry you may have is valid and you can bring that worry to God in prayer.  The “trouble” Matthew mentions is what you face today in hearing that you need a biopsy.  You can deal with that now by praying.  Whatever is coming tomorrow can wait until tomorrow.

These seven realistic prayers for good biopsy results cover the most commonly requested biopsy tests.  You can easily modify the one that applies to you with the specific details you face.  If your biopsy is not listed here, feel free to borrow the basic form of any of these prayers to help you pray for your situation.

Use these prayers as a way to calm your mind and spirit.  Also, praying will help you gain a sense of control in what may seem like everything is out of control.  Instead of thinking, “Well, I guess there’s not anything I can do about it,” say, “I can do something–I can pray!”

Prayer for Good Lung Biopsy Results

Dear God, my doctor said I’ve got to have a lung biopsy because she saw a spot on my lungs during my last checkup.  I had told her I’d been short of breath lately and wasn’t sure why, so she took some pictures of my lungs and that’s when the spot was discovered.

I’ve never had a biopsy before, Lord, so I’m a bit nervous that they’re going to be getting into my lungs to grab this sample.  I’m praying to you because I don’t know what else to do and my doctor was using some terms that made me very worried.  I understand she’s trying to cover the spectrum of what this could be, but she was talking about lung cancer or pulmonary fibrosis.

I pray this biopsy procedure goes smoothly and I ask that the results be negative, which would be great news. I place my body and my trust in you, O Lord, as I pray all of this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Good Skin Biopsy Results

I knew should have used sunscreen more when I was young, Lord!  My dermatologist told me she noticed some irregularly shaped moles on my back and wanted to biopsy each one.  She told me she could get the samples in just a few minutes from now and then it will take 7-10 days to hear back from the lab.

Lord, I don’t want skin cancer!  I’m grateful I came in for an annual checkup with my dermatologist because if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have even noticed anything might be wrong.  Praise you for my doctor being attentive!

I pray for these biopsy samples to all come back negative and benign and not skin cancer.  I ask you, O God, to be praised when these good biopsy results come back.  I pray this now in the exam room, in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Good Breast Biopsy Results

O Jesus, I have to get a place on my breast biopsy tomorrow.  My annual mammogram turned up a dark spot and my doctor wants to have it checked.  I’m glad we caught it now and not later, but I don’t want breast cancer, Lord.

I pray for good biopsy results on this one.  I pray that the spot is just a simple spot that is benign and not of concern in the future.  I thank God, for my radiologist who was quick to notice the spot, and for my doctor who was quick to schedule this biopsy.

While I wait for the results over the next week, I lift this prayer to you, O God, the Mighty Healer.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for Good Prostate Biopsy Results

Well, God, I guess I’m now old enough to have prostate problems.  I told my urologist about my troubles and he strongly urged me to have a biopsy, which I did yesterday.  Now I get to wait for the results to be received from the lab.

I don’t like waiting, especially for something like this, God.  But, as I wait, I pray to you.  I pray in faith and trust.  I ask that these results come back as negative–I’m asking for good news, Lord.

While having an enlarged prostate may be inconvenient, I can deal with that, as opposed to prostate cancer.  I need your help God, so I pray this and ask this in the strong name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for Good Colon Biopsy Results

Lord, this feels a bit awkward to pray for something like this, but I believe you want to know everything that is concerning to me, so I pray to you.

I had my annual colonoscopy yesterday and the doctor told me they found three polyps.  He clipped them and will send them off to be reviewed.  I was encouraged that, in his opinion of looking at them during the procedure, they didn’t “appear” to be anything bad.  But, to be certain, I’m also glad he sent the samples off to the lab.

I pray to you God and ask that for good biopsy results to come back.  I pray that the polyps are just minor concerns.  If I have to get a colonoscopy in a year instead of five years, just to make sure, then I will do that. Thank you for hearing my prayer through Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for Good Bone Marrow Biopsy Results

God in heaven I need your peace and presence in this moment.  I went to the doctor for my annual physical and blood tests and thought all was well.  Some aspects of my blood test were not normal and my primary care physician noticed a bit of swelling in my lymph nodes.

He has scheduled a bone marrow biopsy for later this week.  I’m scared Lord!  I know my doctor wouldn’t be doing this if there weren’t a concern, but I pray, I ask with all that I am that this biopsy comes back negative for leukemia.  I pray for a good result.

I’m leaning into you Lord, to be my Rock and my Comfort in time of need.  In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for Good Cervix Biopsy Results

Lord Jesus, can you be near to me in this moment?  My OB-GYN just told me that she needs to do a biopsy on my cervix, “I’m seeing something that is of concern.”  She’s going to return in a few minutes to perform the biopsy and have the pathologist take a look at the sample.

God, I haven’t felt any different so I am surprised that this is happening.  I’m grateful she caught it and didn’t just do a cursory exam, but I’m worried, Lord.

I place myself in your healing hands, O God.  I pray for this biopsy to come back with good results.  I pray this and make this request through Jesus Christ my Lord, Amen.

Final Thoughts

While it’s not the immediate thought, getting a biopsy is a good thing in that a potential health problem has been spotted and is going to be investigated.  Many imagined scenarios that turn out really bad turn out to not be bad at all because an illness or abnormality was caught early and easily dealt with medically.

That said, actually having a biopsy done and then waiting for the results can be nerve-wracking.  It is in these moments that we can envelop ourselves in the peace of God by placing our trust in God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3.5, NIV).

When things seem confusing or beyond us is the best time to place ourselves in the merciful and mighty hands of the Lord God Almighty.  We best do that when we pray with honesty and vulnerability, laying our concerns before God.

May these prayers for good biopsy results help you be straightforward with God in your worries and concerns.  May these prayers bring you peace.  We invite you to share further prayer requests in the comments section below this article.
