Are you concerned about the economy? Do you want to pray about the nation’s economy, but aren’t sure where to start?
It’s easy to place blame on the economy depending on what political party is in power or who the President is, but over time, the economy has ebbed and flowed regardless of those factors, so I have found it helpful to focus my prayers on things like supply and demand, or how vulnerable people might be affected.
I invite you to use these eight honest prayers for the economy as you can. They are written to give you a starting point so you can pray them exactly, or modify the wording to fit your perspective and precise situation. You may also wish to explore this site and look at prayers for financial anxiety, or prayers for financial breakthroughs.
There are many promises in the Bible about finances and money. Jesus taught a lot about money and possessions, so clearly the economy is of importance to God, just as it is with you, since you want to pray about it. Here are just a couple of verses to remind you of God’s care for you:
“The LORD will give you prosperity in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, blessing you with many children, numerous livestock, and abundant crops. If you listen to these commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom. You must not turn away from any of the commands I am giving you today, nor follow after other gods and worship them” (Deuteronomy 28.11,13-14, NLT).

Short Prayer For The Economy
Dear God, I come to you in prayer about our nation’s economy. There’s a whole lot I don’t understand so I pray you that the people making the decisions will seek your wisdom and not their own gain or greed. I pray for your help in trusting this to work out. I just know that what happens in the economy affects me and my family, as it always has. Hear my prayer through Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For The Economy To Get Better
Lord God, I come to you today to pray for the economy. I ask that you would work in your sovereign power to bring about a better economy for all people. I can just tell that people are struggling right now, including myself.
I pray that you would help businesses to thrive, that you would provide jobs for those who are unemployed, and that you would help me to find financial security. I know I’m not the only one praying a prayer like this, as we all could use your help.
I also pray that you would help me to be a wise steward of my resources. I ask that you guide me so I can be generous with my giving, and that I would use my money to help those in need, where and when I can. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Prayer For Corporations To Be More Generous
Father God, I want to pray to you about corporations. I ask that you would help them to be more generous with their profits. I know they want to make money for their stockholders, but clearly there is an imbalance.
I pray that they would use their money to help those in need, and that they would invest in their employees and communities. I also pray that you would help corporations to be ethical and responsible in what they do with the profits they make.
I ask that you work through their boards and others to ensure they would not exploit their workers, and that they would operate in a way that is good for the environment, and for the communities in which they are located. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer For Realistic Government Budgets
Dear Lord, can you do something about government (city, state, and nation) budgets? I ask that you would help them to create realistic budgets. I pray that they would not spend more money than they have, and that they would be responsible with our tax dollars, which we are paying!
I also ask that you would help our government to be wise in its decision-making. I pray that they would make decisions that are in the best interests of the people, and that they would not be swayed by special interests, greed, or power. Have they forgotten to be servant leaders, Lord?
I may be praying for the impossible, but I lift this prayer anyway, because you are a big God. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Trusting God In Tough Economic Times
Lord Jesus, will you help those who are struggling financially? I ask that you would give them strength and hope. I pray that you would help me to trust in you, even in the midst of difficult times. I have enough, barely, but my financial buffer is very thin.
I can’t imagine what the leaders who have to make decisions about the economy must deal with so I pray that you give them wisdom and the desire to seek you for direction. These tough economic times can create a lot of complaining and blaming, but I ask that you help me stay above all that negativity.
Help me keep my eyes on you Lord Jesus, Amen!
Prayer Of Thankfulness Despite The Economy
Dear God, I just want to thank you regardless of what is going on in the economy right now. Whether it’s good or bad, tight or flowing, I give you praise that you are the Provider for me and my family. I praise you for how you have cared for us when we had little money or more than enough.
I want to put my faith in you, the Lord God of creation, not in corporations or capitalism. You are bigger than the economy and I am grateful for what you have given to us through our jobs and gifts and savings and investments. However it has come to us, I know that ultimately it is from your hand. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Praise For Good Economic Times
Dear God, I want to praise you for the good economic times that I am experiencing. I thank you for the jobs that are available, for the low unemployment rate, and for the rising stock market. It’s not always like that, so I give you praise in the moment.
I also thank you for the generosity of corporations and individuals. I thank you for the many people who are giving to those in need, and for the many businesses that are investing in their employees and cities.
I pray that you would continue to bless my economy and that you would help me to be a good steward of my resources, so I can, in turn, be generous to others as well. Thank you, my Provider, Lord Jesus, Amen.
Prayer For Calm Financial Markets
God in heaven, I am praying for calm financial markets. I ask that you would help to stabilize the markets and you would protect me from losses, as I cannot take a financial hit right now.
I also pray that you would help me to stay calm during times of economic uncertainty. I pray that I would not panic, and that I would trust in you. In the name of the One who is Peace, Amen.
Consider This
As a Christian, you know that God is the ultimate source of all good things, including our financial provision. But what does it mean to pray for the economy? And why is it important?
I’d like to share a few points to consider, which can help to strengthen your trust in God, and help you grow in your journey with Christ.
Prayer is a way of submitting to God’s sovereignty. The Bible teaches that God is the ultimate ruler of the universe, and that he has a sovereign plan for all things, including the economy. When we pray for the economy, we are submitting to God’s sovereignty and trusting that he will work all things together for good ( Romans 8.28).
Prayer is a way of seeking God’s guidance. The Bible teaches that God is a wise and loving Father who wants to guide us in all areas of our lives, including our finances. When we pray for the economy, we are asking God to give us wisdom and guidance in how to manage our money and resources.
Prayer is a way of interceding for others. The Bible teaches that we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22.38-39). This includes praying for those who are struggling financially. When we pray for the economy, we are interceding for those who are in need and asking God to provide for them.
Pray according to God’s will. When we pray for the economy, we should pray according to God’s will, not our own. We should ask God to give us wisdom and guidance.
Pray for those in decision-making roles. We should also pray for those who are making decisions that affect the economy, and we should ask God to guide them in wisdom.
Pray for a just and equitable economy. We should pray for an economy that is just and equitable, and that benefits all people, not just the wealthy. We should ask God to help us create an economy that is based on principles of love, compassion, and justice, and not merely political expedience.
As you pray for the economy, whether for your city, state, or nation, you are bringing that worry and concern to the Almighty God, who is above all things. While you may not understand all that is going on with the economy, or why certain things are happening, you can trust that God hears you when you pray.
